Minutes of the École Marie-Anne Gaboury - Parent Advisory Committee Date: Wednesday May 17th, 2017 Attendance: Paula Meyer, Tyler Milloy, Carmelina Tarantino, JL Laurendeau, Celso Ferreira, Crystal Webster, Ursula Buller, Leanne Bonnar, Tamara McCaffrey, James Hokanson, Regrets: Linda Patterson, Carla Bernardin, Teresa Sigurdson, Jennifer Biebrich-Adamson, Kristin Morand, 1. Welcome & Call to Order: by JL at 6:32 pm 2. Guest Trustees – Chris Sigurdson & Robert Page LRSD is in discussion with the MLA regarding the expansion at CJS – have herad back that its “in the hopper” – ask parents to avocate for this project as individual people – letters, calls or emails to The Honourable Brian Pallister, Collen Mayer, Councillor Brian Mayes, Hon. Ian Wishart, Hon. Rochelle Squires, Plus the 5 MLAs for our area We will send out a list of emails & addresses to the PAC New renovation to EMAG – moving of the adminastraion offices to the “fish” hallway entrance – on behalf of LRSD (Varennes & Hastings were also approved for similar projects) 3. Guest Teacher – Derek Acorn – librarian/ grade 7 teacher 1st year in the role of Libririan – first task was to modenizied our space by: “Learning commons” new term for the library Information literacy – analysis information – relevant, reliabile, etc Makerspace – with PAC funding – for students to create Students to connect with the space and not just to be consumers, but be producers as well. Two main areas of foucs: to manage the materials (books & hands on) & working with the teachers and students on projects. Next step to turning the space into a virtual space – accessiable from home as well. For example: virtual tour, Q&A with a paleontologist, inquiry project – regions of Canada & then made a documentary/newscast, museum of caring, etc. – to guide/support the students – collaboratively – leading their own learning. More ideas to come such as a sewing station, Focus on the 6 C’s – creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, character, citizenship, communication. 4. Acceptance of previous minutes from April 2017: Call for approval by JL, motioned by Ursula, seconded by Leanne, PASSED 5. Administration Report: Paula (see attached report for more details) Staffing: Berard & Cloutier are both retiring, Rauch & Mangin leaving for Sage Creek, Acorn half time librarian, Jeanette McLead leaving for Sage Creek, Just finished the “Tell them from me survey” – some results are that the level of engagement has increased to 74% & reduced the level of stress by 4%, more information will be pulled from this data. 6. President’s Report: JL No report at this time 7. Treasurer’s Report: Celso Call for approval by JL, motioned by Ursula, seconded by Crystal, PASSED Budget – see attached reports We are meeting our budget expectations for this year. 8. Committee Reports: i. Fundraiser Ideas – JL Lottery license – we are looking on a lottery license to allow us to have a 50/50 draw during parent events, or winedraw, etc. for next year. Perhaps looking at changing ideas for next year. ii. Fun lunch – JL Pizza will be tomorrow. Profit year to date has been $600 – which will cover the costs for free lunch. Looking for someone to take over Fun Lunch next year. Crystal has volunteered to take it on for next year! Thank you Crystal. We are always looking for additional volunteers, signup at: http://signupschedule.com/emagpac iii. Summergrill – Leanne Will be held on Thursday June 8th James has booked the BBQ with Kinsmen (donation for $50-100 needed) Leanne has booked the entertainment, firetrucks, recycle everywhere, etc. We will have a canteen this year + ice cream cups on the order form. The forms have been printed and are ready to go out. iv. Walkathon – Kristin not here. Was on April 27th – we fundraised $2,100 expenses were around $300ish, we netted around $1,700ish. Looking for someone to take over this for next year. v. Free Lunch – Crystal June 22nd – we will do hot dogs, chips & a freezie 9. Old Business: Parking concerns – Paula will be looking for parent support regarding this. We will create a subcommittee to support the school & Paula. 10. New Business: We discussed the idea of purchasing a freezer for PAC.
