Mount Vision January 2021 | Vol.01 | Issue 06 JANUARY 2021 | Vol. 01 | Issue 06 | a Syro-malabar Major Archiepiscopal curia newsletter Editor’s Desk The New Year is a time to look back and forward. Some people make resolutions to break bad habits, create new ones, maintain existing ones or set new goals. The world inside is so confusing as the world outside appears to be changing without our consent and wishes! The year ahead brings along a new context and thus the need for creative decision making. Remember, the context gives us conscience! It is imperative therefore to know the context to make the right judgement and decisions. We are looking forward to a post Covid era of reality with the mix of a complex digital lifestyle. The Christian identity may be questioned, discussed, manipulated, synchronized or compromised in this digital era. We need a spiritual cohabitation in the post Covid era more than ever, since the invitation to be more humane is placed before us being a true Christian in the digital ecosystem. Let hope and expectation be the keywords in the new year with the determination to embrace the new reality with a discerning heart and mind. Let Christ be the Master who can lead us the way forward.

The origins of the Ukrainian Catholic Church lie in the time when much of present-day Ukraine formed part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was then, in 1596, that for a variety of reasons, many of the Orthodox bishops of the region decided to accept communion with Rome.(1) After almost four hundred years the resulting Union of Brest remains a contentious subject.(2) The new "Uniate" Church formally recognized the Pope as Head of the Church, but maintained its traditional Byzantine or eastern rite, calendar, its right to ordain married men as priests, and its right to elect its own bishops.

Adult Catechism Class January 25, 2016 The Ukrainian Catholic Church in our Modern World Part 1: Scripture Readings: Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 9:37-38: Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. “Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” John 10:14-16: I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. Part 2: What is the Ukrainian Catholic Church? In simplistic terms, the Ukrainian Catholic Church (also known as the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church) is a part of the Catholic Church that observes the same traditions as does Eastern Orthodoxy. It is, however, very much part of the Catholic Church. The head of the Universal Catholic Church, and hence the Ukrainian Catholic Church, is Pope Francis. The Ukrainian Catholic Church world-wide is governed internally by the Synod of Ukrainian Catholic Bishops; its highest ranking cleric is Patriarch (Major Archbishop) Sviatoslav Shevchuk.

  • Audience with the Major Archbishop, the Metropolitans and the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church
    N. 190705a Friday 05.07.2019 Audience with the Major Archbishop, the Metropolitans and the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church This morning, in the Sala Bologna of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience the members of the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, to whom he addressed the following words: Address of the Holy Father Address of the Holy Father Beatitude, dear Brother Major Archbishop, Eminences, Excellencies, dear Brothers! It was my wish to invite you here to Rome for fraternal sharing, also with the superiors of the competent dicasteries of the Roman Curia. I thank you for accepting the invitation; it is good to see you. Ukraine has for some time been experiencing a difficult and delicate situation, for more than five years wounded by a conflict that many describe as “hybrid”, composed as it is of acts of war in which those responsible camouflage themselves; a conflict where the weakest and the smallest pay the highest price; a conflict aggravated by propagandist falsifications and manipulations of various types, also in the attempt to involve the religious aspect. I hold you in my heart and I pray for you, dear Ukrainian brothers. And I confide to you that at times I do so with prayers that I remember and that I learned from Bishop Stepan Czmil, then a Salesian priest; he taught me them when I was twelve years old, in 1949, and I learned from him to serve the Divine Liturgy three times a week. I thank you for your fidelity to the Lord and to Peter’s Successor, which has often cost dearly throughout history, and I beg the Lord to accompany the actions of all those with political responsibility to search not the so-called partisan good, which in the end is always an interest at someone else’s expenses, but the common good, peace.
