Wander through the sprawling Parc Güell, which he originally designed as an upper-class enclave of homes overlooking the sea. When buyers failed to materialize, however, the private estate was purchased by the city and opened as a public park. Visit lovely Casa Batlló, one of Gaudí’s iconic buildings, and La Pedrera, which is now home to one of Barcelona’s most active cultural centers. Cap your immersion in modernisme with a guided tour of the fantastic— and still unfinished—Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.

This morning, arrive in the beautiful port city of Roses, which was founded by Greek colonists more than 2,500 years ago. Upon disembarkation, set off on your selected excursion.

Visit the fantastic Theatre-Museum of Salvador Dalí in the nearby town of Figueres. Conceived of and designed by the artist himself, the museum is home to some of Dalí’s most famous works as well as a sampling from every period of the great surrealist’s career. Considered to be Dalí’s last great masterpiece, the museum provides a unique window into the mind of one of the art world’s most original—and most mischievous—thinkers.

Alternatively, launch a kayak from the yacht’s unique retractable marina to enjoy the cobalt waters of the Bay of Roses, or hop aboard a bike and cycle through the gently rolling agricultural terrain outside Roses. If you like to snorkel, don a mask and fins and swim through a series of natural rock pools that provide a habitat for crabs and a variety of small fish. Take a stroll through history in the South of France.

Upon arrival this morning in the seaside commune of Sète, disembark and join your guide for your selected adventure.

Travel to the university town of Montpellier to visit the Château de Flaugergues, an elegant villa constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries. The château—a typical “folly” built by members of the new aristocracy—features a series of elaborate gardens and a massive staircase that takes up a full third of the building. After exploring the château, enjoy a wine tasting of varietals made from local grapes, which have been grown here since the was a Roman colony.

Or explore the medieval walled city of Aigues-Mortes on a guided tour that includes such striking landmarks as the expansive ramparts, the Gothic Church of Notre Dame des Sablons and the Tower of Constance, which was built to protect the town, but was eventually turned into an infamous jail in which Louis XIV imprisoned many Protestant dissidents.

Alternatively, stay in Sète and take a gourmet walking tour of this lovely city, which is crisscrossed by canals and linked by 12 bridges. Stop to see the fishing boats and La Criée, the famous seafood auction house that sells the fresh catch of small-scale fishing vessels that ply the waters of the Mediterranean. First developed more than 2,000 years ago, Cassis continues to entice travelers with its crisp, floral white wines, luxuriant vineyards and charming waterfront. As you sail into the Côte d’Azur port, admire the rocky cliffs andcalanques of the coast.

Disembark and set off on a lovely drive through bucolic scenery on your way to Aix-en-Provence, the elegant capital of the region. Stroll the narrow cobblestone lanes of the old town, walk under the graceful plane trees of the Cours Mirabeau and spot the famous Deux Garçons café, which was frequented by the likes of Paul Cézanne and Ernest Hemingway. Then, stop to visit the Cathedral of the Holy Savior, which was built on the site of a Roman forum. Don’t miss the beautiful 16th-century tapestries on the interior of the nave, or the cathedral’s tranquil Romanesque cloisters. Enjoy some time to sip a café au lait, savor the leisurely pace of life in Provence and browse the stylish boutiques before returning to the harbor.

Arrive this morning in the half-moon-shaped seaside village of Portofino, its pastel houses lining the shores of the harbor. Once a Roman colony, the city has been ruled by the English, French, Spanish and Austrians. These days, it’s a hotspot for the rich and famous who anchor their mega- yachts in the harbor each summer.

Disembark and learn about the role of olive oil in Italian cuisine from the maître d’hotel of the exclusive Belmond Hotel Splendido, which overlooks the Portofino Harbor. Afterwards, savor a delicious lunch of Italian specialties, wine and dessert before returning to the harbor. Alternatively, meet the chef of Belmond Splendido Mare and enjoy a special private class in which you’ll delve into the art and science of making a traditional Ligurian pesto, followed by lunch accompanied by local wine.

Arrive this morning in the Principality of Monaco, a sovereign state on France’s Mediterranean coast. Enjoy a full day and evening to immerse yourself in the pleasures of chic Monte Carlo.

Wander through the streets of the 14th-century hilltop village of Eze before entering the villa that houses the Île de France museum, a priceless collection of art assembled by the Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild. Or spend a few hours living the life of a Formula 1 driver as you take an unforgettable excursion through Eze behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

If you like, take to the air for a spectacular sightseeing flight by helicopter over the glorious Côte d’Azur. After returning to land, embark on a guided exploration of Monte Carlo’s ritziest districts. Or visit the village of Eze and then ascend the Rock of Monaco for a walking tour of the Old City, including the Oceanographic Museum, the cathedral containing the tomb of Princess Grace and the exterior of the Prince’s Palace. Once a tiny fishing village, Cannes is now one of the most famous cities in France. Today, embark on your choice of excursions in the French countryside.

Drive along the scenic Middle Corniche Road, through rolling hills and rich valleys, on your way to the enchanting fortified village of St. Paul de Vence, one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera. Take a guided tour of some of the city’s elegant homes and ramparts, and visit the hilltop cemetery, which is home to Russian- French painter Marc Chagall’s simple white tomb. Later, enjoy some time to explore the shops, galleries and cafés on your own.

Alternatively, leave the shores of the Mediterranean and travel inland to the foothills of the Alps and Grasse, the birthplace of the French perfume industry. At the venerated Galimard Perfumery— established in 1747 when the Count de Galimard began to create the first fragrances for the court of Louis XV—tour the museum and the workshop to learn how perfume is created. Come face-to-face with the majestic mountain of Volcanoes National Park.

This morning, disembark the yacht in Nice and board your private jet for the flight to Rwanda.

Explore Kigali, the cultural heart of Africa’s most densely populated country, and at the Kigali Memorial Center, learn more about the 1994 genocide, especially the survivors’ stories and how Rwandans are creating an environment for unity and healing.

The next morning, depart for the verdant mountains of Volcanoes National Park, home of the majestic mountain gorillas and several habituated groups of golden monkeys. Nearly half of the 700 or so remaining mountain gorillas in the world live in the forested Virunga Mountains that span the countries of Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mountain gorillas live in groups of up to 30 individuals led by an alpha male, known as a silverback for the gray swath of hair that stands out from the rest of his black coat. The adults spend much of their days eating roots, wild celery and tree bark, while the juveniles chase each other through the forest, climb trees and swing from branches. Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, hike through beautiful bamboo forest to get up close with a family of gorillas. Spend an hour watching these peaceful giants munch leaves, groom each other and play in the forest. MAY 13 – 15

Spot big cats, crocodiles, hippos, elephants, giraffes and more in the wetlands of the Okavango Delta.

The Okavango Delta is a wetland oasis and offers a completely different experience than the vast, dry vistas common on most East African safaris. Your adventure starts immediately upon landing with a game drive on the way to your remote camp. As you drive, you may spot lions and cheetahs, as well as crocodiles and the red lechwe, an antelope that thrives in marshlands.

Over the next two days, search for leopards, spotted hyenas, hippos, elephants, giraffes and great herds of buffalo on early-morning and late-afternoon game drives. Return to camp each evening for a classic sundowner, taking in the grand views with refreshments in hand.

Alternate: In the Kalahari Desert, saltpans transform the landscape into a moon-like clay terrain where meerkats and baobab trees thrive. Trek with Bushmen to learn survival skills and ride a four-wheel-drive safari vehicle through the grasslands to take in the native flora and fauna of the Kalahari. MAY 16 – 18

Under large, shady trees overlooking a floodplain filled with wildlife, Mombo Camp and Little Mombo offer spacious en suite tents built six feet off the ground.
