Christmas Appeal 2019 A Time to Give and Share And the Celtic will be there! £310k

Thank You!

Celtic FC Foundation is a registered SCIO number SC024648 with its registered office at , Glasgow, G40 3RE 2 Monday, December 23, 2019

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your wonderful support of Celtic FC Foundation’s 2019 Christmas Appeal.

In honour of our founding fathers, it lies at the heart of our Club’s humble and charitable beginnings as it aims to help those in our communities who need it most.

Thanks to your generosity, we are delighted to confirm that this year’s Appeal has been our most successful to date, raising an incredible net total of £310k.

We wanted to help hundreds of families within our communities who are facing poverty. Giving them the kind of Christmas most of us take for granted. With lots of food on the table and gifts for the kids. We also aimed to support pensioners on our doorstep, by lending a hand at a difficult time of year. And through our charity partners, we hoped to make a massive difference to the lives of children, the homeless, those living in refuge, refugees and those facing other challenges.

The support we have received for the Appeal from across the globe has been immense, heartwarming and humbling. This year we have been in a position to help so many families, pensioners and charity partners and that is a credit to every single individual or organisation who gave us cash, toys, or the gift of their time to help us help those who need it the most.

Christmas is a time to give and share – and the Glasgow Celtic were most definitely there.

In Summary, donations were made as follows:

• 85.2% Glasgow and West of Scotland • 7.1% Ireland • 6.4% London • 1.3% Overseas (Ottawa)

13 Testimonials

These are just a selection of the comments received from a variety of beneficiaries:

“The joy of parents when I called them to let them know was very moving. It ranged from being called an angel to just sobbing. A number of parents have called into school to say what a difference it will make to them. The families this year include one who is facing Christmas without their 14-year-old as he took his own life in September and another has a parent with a terminal illness. Two of the families are refugees – the Red Cross has told us of the trauma they have faced before they arrived in Scotland. Horrific. I cannot thank the Foundation and its supporters enough for their hard work and generous donations now, and throughout the year. One family reported that the gift last year allowed them to have heating, a proper Christmas lunch and a gift for everyone – the first time that they had all three. Everyone wants the best for their children but sometimes they need a bit of support to get there. Because of you, many children and families are facing Christmas with a wee bit of hope knowing that people care. We’re blessed having such good neighbours. Merry Christmas to you all.” – Nancy Clunie, Head Teacher, Dalmarnock Primary School

“Thank you so much to Celtic FC Foundation for helping so many families from my school. Getting that money at Christmas makes such a difference to them. I’ve had mums cry and talk about the relief they feel because they no longer need to worry about where the money will come from for the added expense of Christmas. Last year I even had a mum tell me she was going to buy her daughter the bike she really wanted as that was just not a possibility before.” – Anne Marie Stafford, Head Teacher, St Michael’s Primary School

“The Christmas Appeal is a lifeline to some of our families at this time of year. What should be a really enjoyable and happy time can actually be incredibly stressful for some families due to the financial burden placed on them. This Appeal allows families to celebrate together and lifts the pressure, allowing them to focus on what really matters. Huge thanks to all who support this.” – Frances McLauchlan, Head Teacher, Cranhill Primary School

“We have enjoyed the extra help given to families from the Foundation over many years. All our children feel the love of the Christmas Season without knowing the true cost to their families. Parents and carers want so much to fulfil their children's dreams of a lovely Christmas dinner, presents, heating, electricity, etc and they all cost money. Through the Foundation's Christmas Appeal some of our neediest families have been supported to provide the loving family Christmas most of us take for granted. What's more these childhood memories are priceless and last a lifetime. Many thanks Celtic FC Foundation for helping make our children's childhoods better.” – Louise McCamley, Head Teacher, St Timothy’s Primary School

“Our families are overcome with joy and tears. This will make Christmas so much more special! The parents are very appreciative and can’t thank Celtic FC Foundation enough.” - Liz Gonzales, Head Teacher, Sacred Heart Primary School

14 “Christmas time for a large number of families is hugely financially stressful. Celtic FC Foundation provides a real lifeline to the families we have been able to nominate for support. It means the difference between food or not, heat or not, gifts or not. We cannot express how grateful the families are for the generosity of those who have contributed to the Appeal. All we can do is thank the Foundation and its supporters on behalf of those families who will receive the donations. Thank you all very much for the hard work put into making Christmas a happier, warmer and more enjoyable holiday for families who are in genuine need and helping them to feel a little bit of the magic of Christmas.” – Shona Heggie, Head Teacher, Thorntree Primary School

“Just had a P6 girl who has little English in to say thank you for the gift. After she had said her piece she burst into tears. She said that nothing as good had happened to her and her family since coming to Scotland. She finished her wee speech with ‘God bless’.” – Nancy Clunie, Head Teacher, Dalmarnock Primary School

“The work that the Foundation does for families in my school is incredible - it helps put smiles on faces at a tough time of the year, and families say that this takes some of the pressures away for them. The support for so many families across the City is incredible, and long may it continue.” – Simon Kelly, Head Teacher, Alexandra Parade Primary School

“The financial support provided by Celtic FC Foundation has a massive impact on how our families are able to cope during the festive period. Many of our families struggle throughout the year but having this gift in the winter months is so important for them due to mounting bills and the pressures over Christmas. We feel so lucky that our families have been able to benefit from the fabulous support and we see the impact of this through their actions and what our children tell us. Many thanks for your continued and valued support.” – Alison Forbes, Head Teacher, Woodside Nursery School

“Feedback from one family showed that the worry and distress caused to the Mum by not being able to afford the doll one of her children so badly wanted for Christmas was resolved when she received the funds. Her relief and happiness at being able to do this was enormous and she was so grateful.” – Irene Gibson, Bellshill Foodbank

“People are hungry. I eat every day, so why shouldn’t they eat every day? Through the provision of the meals that we offer at the Oasis Café, we try to make people feel welcome and respected. This is a truly vital lifeline to those who are out there with little or no access to food. No words of gratitude can describe the feeling when you’re able to offer help to a mother or father in need and you see relief in their tear- filled eyes. We’re totally reliant on people’s good will and we simply couldn’t help as many people without the support of all the fans who’ve donated to Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal. Thank you once again.” – Denis Curran, Chairman, Loaves and Fishes

15 “The backing we receive through the Foundation’s Christmas Appeal plays a vital role in ensuring that we stay well stocked throughout this very difficult period. We are completely reliant on donations like this to ensure that we can continue to offer our service and we simply could not operate without that support.” – Dermot Hill, Founder, The Invisibles

“Christmas is a time for families, filled with gifts, decorations and hopefully joy. For our families, however, it’s a time of loss and deep regret. Women will stay in the most difficult circumstances just to have some semblance of Christmas for their kids. Over the years, Celtic FC Foundation have contributed greatly towards making that journey to a safe place, so much easier. By providing gifts, toys and financial support over the Christmas period, leaving a home can become far less painful for those faced with that decision. In the depths of their sadness, a bright Christmas tree sparkles and it’s often surrounded by gifts they could only have ever dreamt of having. That’s the difference this makes to our service users. With the support offered by Celtic FC Foundation, women can leave behind violence and oppression. It genuinely changes lives. To all of your supporters, we would like to say thank you so much. We wish you happiness and a peaceful Christmas.” – Anne Kelly, Project & Development Officer, Glasgow East Women’s Aid

“In a cold and unfamiliar city, Christmas can be a particularly dark, frightening and isolating time. Throughout the rest of the year, our guests depend on Glasgow’s public buildings during the daytime hours to provide shelter, warmth, connection, social interaction, and activities. But when those buildings are closed for Christmas and New Year, guests have nowhere to go, very little to do, and often very little to eat. Glasgow Night Shelter is enormously appreciative that Celtic FC Foundation has chosen to recognise the urgent and vital need for this service, and to support some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people in Glasgow. We’d like to thank Celtic FC Foundation and the Club's amazing supporters, our guests are very grateful.” – Anika Joy, Glasgow Night Shelter

“Celtic FC Foundation’s done it again, giving the people we support a Christmas lunch to remember, in the wonderful Kerrydale Suite, complete with twinkling lights and the very best of service. The value of being able to offer this to people experiencing homelessness at Christmas, which is often an even more isolating experience, is immeasurable. Those in attendance often talk about it throughout the year, as a very treasured memory. We're hugely grateful for the continued support and wish everyone who has supported Celtic FC Foundation and helped to make this happen, the very happiest of holiday seasons.” – Lorraine McGrath, Chief Executive, Simon Community Scotland

“Elpis Centre is a small charitable organisation and it greatly appreciates any donations received. Your support will allow us to continue to help our young women throughout the year, but especially at Christmas time. This can be a very difficult time but Elpis Centre aims to ensure that they feel included and involved over the festive period. We would like to thank Celtic FC Foundation for the continued support as it makes a huge difference.” – Jackie Palmer, Assistant Manager, Elpis Centre

16 “At this time of year, everyone feels vulnerable, so we just try to do as much as we can to alleviate that and the Foundation very generously support us. We simply couldn’t do the work that we do without donations such as this.” – David Hayman, Founder, Spirit Aid

“The festive period is a time for getting together with loved ones and celebrating what’s important but for many refugee families, it is a time of poverty and loneliness. The support of Celtic FC Foundation has helped hundreds of vulnerable families at a time of real need. We are so grateful to every individual who has supported the Christmas Appeal this year.” - Louise McGovern, Scottish Refugee Council

“A huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders, thanks to your amazing support, as it will allow us to provide meals to people experiencing homelessness this festive period. From everyone at Help the Homeless we can't thank you and the supporters enough. This will make such a difference.” – Helen McMillan, Help the Homeless

“Christmas is an extremely challenging time of year for those living in poverty. This support received from Celtic FC Foundation genuinely enables us to save local lives and we’re so grateful for that partnership. We also greatly appreciate the toys received from the Ghirls for Good event. Your generosity has helped us to support East End children trapped in poverty to have a Christmas Day experience.” – Major Colin Bradshaw, Salvation Army

“Your support has made so many of our children very happy by funding our pantomime, Christmas party, and also the gift of a book for each child. It has also helped us to fund some of our after-school clubs, such as our Drama and Karate clubs. I would like to thank Celtic FC Foundation for continuing the legacy of Brother Walfrid in East London and making it a special Christmas for the children at St. Anne’s.” – Sheila Mouna, Head Teacher, St Anne’s Primary School, London

A further 150 gifts will be given to other vulnerable people and an emergency food store will be in operation in December to help over 200 people facing food poverty. Over the festive season, the Centre will host three parties for over 180 local children and parents who are facing disadvantage and poverty. The Cardinal Hume Centre are so grateful for the continued support of Celtic FC Foundation which allows us to assist some of the most vulnerable people in society including child refugees, homeless young people and disadvantaged families.” – Patricia Marron, Cardinal Hume Centre

“ 17 On behalf of the Foundation team and all of those families, individuals and organisations who have benefitted as a result of your generosity through the 2019 Christmas Appeal, thank you for your wonderful support.

Every year, the Christmas Appeal is more and more heart-breaking, seeing first hand, the huge challenges being faced by so many in our local communities. The torment of poverty, hardship, homelessness, domestic abuse, hopelessness and fleeing homes overseas.

However, the way the Celtic Family pulls together to bring a little hope this Christmastime is overwhelming and mends my heart. Food on the table and gifts for the kids for families who are struggling, Supermarket vouchers for vulnerable pensioners. Support for children, the homeless, refugees and those living in refuge.

This year’s campaign slogan is ‘Christmas is a time to give and share. And the Glasgow Celtic will be there.’ And there you’ve been, in great numbers, as always.

Thank you to everyone who gave us their time around our fundraising events and delivery, especially our army of volunteers and the Foundation’s Supporters’ Committee. Thanks to the Celtic supporters across the world and everyone else who actively raised funds for this year’s campaign and/or made donations.

Thanks to the Football Department and all of the Celtic staff across the business who assisted with the campaign through another very busy period at the football club.

Thanks to Magners, Dafabet, Intelligent Car Leasing, CreditFix, Football Aid, the Ellen Kane Trust and all Celtic and Foundation sponsors, partners, suppliers and Corporate and Premium clients. Thanks to those who gave us professional services and thanks to Number 19 Marketing and Eskimo Creative for the campaign concept design.

Your generosity has changed lives this Christmas – and I have not a single doubt that Brother Walfrid will be smiling down upon us, proud of the difference we have made.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
