Integral construction using split piers improved construction and long-term durability. 7 ASIA PACIFIC ENABLE SAI VAN BRIDGE, MACAU, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA The 2.2km long viaduct over Praia Grande Bay connects Macau and Taipa Island. To accommodate the expansion of the Light Rail system the interior of the box structure required assessment and upgrading for new trains and enhanced safety measures. Atkins undertook assessment and design for this post-tensioned concrete box viaduct with a 400m long cable stayed navigation span. 8 PENANG BRIDGE, ENABLE MALAYSIA Atkins was the Client’s Special Advisor for the cable stay replacement scheme on the 13.5km crossing, carrying out structural analysis of the bridge due to traffic increases, conducting construction audits and advising on maintenance regime. 9 10 MIDDLE EAST RIYADH METRO, KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA DESIGN Atkins is working on Package 3 (Lines 4, 5 & 6) Atkins value engineered the entire of Riyadh Metro supporting the Design & Build viaduct design resulting in significant savings to the Consortium FAST comprising FCC, Samsung C+T, consortium. Each 15m long simply supported voided deck slab was precast in two longitudinal sections, and connected by an insitu stitch. Foundations were designed to provide frame action for strength and structural stability of the bridge against lateral loads, including ship collision. 12 PRINCE TURKI BIN ABDULAZIZ DESIGN ROAD BRIDGE, KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA Designed for the ArRiyadh Development Authority the Prince Turki Road bridge is a striking solution to one of the most congested intersections in the city. We have worked with Knight Architects to develop a number of concepts for the project and the selected option is a 210m long and 30m wide bridge, arranged in three spans of 60- 90-60m. The bridge deck is a steel through structure with two 3-dimensional side trusses as the main load-carrying elements. The side trusses also support the architectural cladding which fans out at mid span to provide shading to pedestrians coming out of the Metro station. Sculptural piers support the deck which seems to float on the substructures. DUBAI METRO VIADUCTS, DESIGN UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Design and technical construction support for 61km of precast segmental viaduct, including large diameter monopile foundations. Time dependent studies, rail-structure interaction as well as seismic design were key considerations. Atkins introduced new precasting and launching technology to the UAE permitting construction with minimal traffic disruption. 13 NORTH AMERICA DESIGN HAVEN AVENUE GRADE SEPARATION, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA The Haven Avenue Grade Separation is a commuter train and Burlington Northern landmark bridge in Rancho Cucamonga that Santa Fe freight trains. was built to ease traffic congestion caused by increased rail service in the area.     Consultancy Agreement No. NEX/2301 South Island Line (East) Environmental Impact Assessment 2. Project Description 2.1 Project Background The South Island Line (SIL) was originally proposed as part of the Second Railway Development Study (RDS-2) completed in May 2000 as an extension to the existing railway network to serve the Southern District of Hong Kong. In June 2002, MTRCL submitted a preliminary proposal for a medium-capacity SIL, which involved a monorail system looping from University Station of the planned West Island Line (WIL) to the southern part of Hong Kong Island and back to Wanchai Station of the existing Island Line (ISL). The study identified that SIL would not be commercially viable without Government’s funding support. Subsequently, MTRCL further developed the proposed SIL as part of a Feasibility Study (FS) entitled “West Island Line and South Island Line Feasibility Study” which was completed in March 2004. After an evaluation of various alternative options, the FS recommended the implementation of the proposed SIL(E) from South Horizons to Admiralty, via intermediate stations at Lei Tung, Wong Chuk Hang and Ocean Park, for serving the Southern District and provision of a necessary depot at Wong Chuk Hang to support the operation of SIL, amongst other recommendations related to WIL. The FS also evaluated the feasibility of providing additional intermediate stations at Happy Valley and Wanchai. In February 2005, MTRCL submitted a project proposal to the Government for phased implementation of the SIL and WIL. In December 2007, the Executive Council gave the green light for MTRCL to proceed with preliminary planning and design of the SIL(E), which will be a medium capacity railway line running from Admiralty to South Horizons, with three intermediate stations at Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang and Lei Tung.

    EXPERIMENTAL SITE WIND AVAILABILITY STUDY FOR WONG CHUK HANG, HONG KONG INVESTIGATION REPORT WWTF007-2010 February 2010 Submitted to Department of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY At the request of the Department of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, on behalf of Planning Department of The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a study of wind availability and characteristics for a nominated Study Area in Wong Chuk Hang was conducted by the CLP Power Wind/Wave Tunnel Facility (WWTF) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as part of the “Urban Climate Map and Standards for Wind Environment – Feasibility Study”. The study was undertaken in accordance with the requirements stipulated in the Australasian Wind Engineering Society Quality Assurance Manual, AWES-QAM-1-2001 (2001) and the American Society of Civil Engineers Manual and Report on Engineering Practice No. 67 for Wind Tunnel Studies of Buildings and Structures (1999). The study was also conducted in accordance with the recommendations of Planning Department’s Feasibility Study for Establishment of Air Ventilation Assessment System – Final Report (2005) and Technical Guide for Air Ventilation Assessment for Developments in Hong Kong (2006). A 1:2000 scale topography study was undertaken to determine the effects of local topography and the surrounding urban environment on mean wind direction, mean wind speed and turbulence intensity at a nominated Study Area in Wong Chuk Hang. A miniature dynamic pressure (Cobra) probe was used to take measurements of the longitudinal, lateral and vertical directions components of wind speed, at 22.5° increments for the full 360° azimuth, i.e.

This paper elaborates on the policy initiatives of the Development Bureau (DEVB). OUR VISION 2. Our vision is to ensure adequate land supply and to build up a “land reserve” so as to meet future demands in a timely manner and improve people’s living space. It is also our vision to continue to invest in and manage infrastructure development to facilitate economic and sustainable development of Hong Kong. 3.     LC Paper No. ESC56/20-21(01) Legislative Council Establishment Subcommittee Follow-up Action to the Establishment Subcommittee Meeting on 5 May 2021 At the Establishment Subcommittee (ESC) meeting on 5.5.2021, the Development Bureau was requested to provide supplementary information on the work plan and targets as well as key performance indicators of the Invigorating Island South Office (IISO) in the coming three years, before the discussion of the Finance Committee on the proposed creation of a non-civil service (NCS) position to lead IISO to co-ordinate with other relevant bureaux/departments (B/Ds) to take forward projects and measures under the Invigorating Island South (IIS) initiative. As explained at the ESC meeting, ahead of the creation of the said NCS post, IISO already commenced operation in February 2021, and has been actively consulting stakeholders within and outside the Government, with a view to producing a draft Conceptual Master Plan (CMP). The CMP, when finalized, will set out the core ideas and proposals under the IIS initiative, and will serve as the indicators against which to measure the performance of IISO. The key ideas and proposals being considered by IISO since its establishment, which will be incorporated where appropriate into the CMP, and the tentative work plan are summarised at Annex. It is expected that more ideas would emerge in the course of the interactions between IISO and stakeholders. When the Head of IISO is in post, he or she will, as a matter of priority, finalize the CMP and draw up a detailed work plan for implementation of the various proposals.

Introduction The SIL(E) Environmental Permit (EP) Condition 2.15 specifies that the Permit Holder/Certified Arborist shall deposit with EPD a Tree Protection Plan detailing the requirements and measures for the proper protection and monitoring of trees affected by the construction of the Project including all Old and Valuable Trees (OVTs) and protected trees within the Project boundary. This Tree Protection Plan is prepared in accordance with the requirements of the above mentioned EP Condition. 2. Purpose and Scope 2.1 Purpose To establish methods and procedures to ensure proper implementation of measures for protecting trees affected by the SIL(E) Project including all OVTs, protected trees and the trees to be transplanted within the Project boundary which comply with the requirements in the SIL(E) EP and EIA Report. 2.2 Scope This Tree Protection Plan is applied to all the SIL(E) civil works contracts having retained trees within the works sites and works areas and the tree transplantation contract. In accordance with the SIL(E) EP Condition 2.15, the Permit Holder shall appoint a Certified Arborist for the SIL(E) Project. The Certified Arborist is to follow the requirements and measures detailing in this plan for the proper protection and monitoring of trees affected by the construction of the Project.
