Women’s Golf Tournament Program - 116 pages PING CELEBRATES 50 YEARS IN G OLF RICH HARVEST FARMS Fifty years ago, the first PING® putter was shipped from the Redwood City, California, garage of Karsten and Louise Solheim. The PING® 1A™ putter inaugurated a revolution in golf club design and manufacturing that would see Karsten’s company grow into a brand world-renowned for innovation and unequalled quality. Karsten, with his family at his side, went on to pioneer custom fitting and bring new processes to the manufacturing of golf clubs, including investment casting and heat treating. He recognized the value of scientific research and employed high speed cameras and a robotic golfer (The PING® Man) to analyze the dynamics of the golf club. His insistence on adhering to strict engineering principles and tight manufacturing tolerances raised the level of product performance and quality throughout the golf industry. It all led to more enjoyment for golfers all over the world. An engineer with an extensive background in the defense, aerospace and computer industries, he remains the only engineer to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Among the game-changing products that will be forever associated with Karsten are the Anser® putter and EYE2® irons. BUNKER HILL His wife of 63 years, Louise, who turned 91 in June, vividly remembers RICH HARVEST FARMS the moment Karsten informed her of his new putter’s name. “He came Be careful running into the kitchen,” she recalled, “and said, ‘I’ve got a name for my putter.’ I said ‘That’s nice, honey,’ and we ate our hamburgers and Proud sponsorof the of LPGA flat green vegetables without any particular celebration. -

83 Year-By-Year Results 2013 Solheim
YEAR-BY-YEAR RESULTS 2013 SOLHEIM CUP The 2013 Solheim Cup, the 13th staging of the event, was held at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo., Aug. 16-18. The U.S. team was looking to recover from a devastating loss on European soil in 2011 and entered the week more prepared and motivated than ever before, but the European team had other plans. Taking a commanding 10.5 - 5.5 lead heading into Sunday’s singles matches, the European team charged to the fi nish line and sealed a 18-10 victory to capture the Cup on American soil for the fi rst time in the event’s history. The European team took the early lead Friday morning, ending the foursomes matches 3-1. They went on to win two more match- es in the afternoon four-ball session to take a 5-3 lead over the U.S. team heading into Saturday’s second day of play. Saturday morning’s foursomes matches brought out a diff erent U.S. team, as they fought to earn 2.5 points to trail Europe 6.5-5.5 entering the afternoon four-ball matches. But a hungry European team increased their lead thanks to a spectacular afternoon four-ball session on Saturday afternoon in which they took all four points. Team Europe led the U.S. team 10.5 - 5.5 heading into Sunday’s singles matches, which ties their largest lead ever heading into the fi nal day of the Solheim Cup. As the sun rose over the Rocky Mountains on Sunday, the Americans knew that it would take a massive eff ort for them to get the Cup back, as they needed to win nine points out of the 12 singles matches.
