Not what I expected, but not badBy Darrick DishawThis is not a "must have" poker book full of soul crushing secrets. It's not an autobiography, either. So, what exactly is it, then? A third of it reads like Tommy Angelo's Elements of Poker... out-of-context ethereal prose about such things as happiness, bitten by bad luck, and being hungry for victory, a third is good, solid advice on no limit cash games (albeit brief), the last third is fairly worthless (to me) filler about branding, buying ergonomic computer stuff, and creating passive income via poker. While Nguyen name drops players like Phil Ivey, Phil Galfond, and Cole South quite a bit, he never tells any personal stories about them nor gives us more insight into these NLHE legends than the barest essentials. In fact, elaboration on almost every level is needed. For instance, in the chapter I Play Solid, But I Can't Win:"People usually say they play a good game and they are just running bad. But there are often small things they fail to acknowledge. Three notable examples are c-betting too much, neglecting the small pots, and passive pre-flop play. It's hard to detect these problems because if you were aware of them, you probably would have fixed them already."At this point, the author goes onto something else, leaving us to wonder at the various intricacies of less frequent continuation betting, small pot neglect, and passive play before the flop. A good 20% of the entire book could have elaborated on that paragraph alone. How I Made My First Million From Poker is a poetic reflection on one man's poker career through a very dark glass. It will probably improve your game slightly more than reading Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River. Which is to say that the book is enjoyable, but pretty darn far from "the nuts"... especially at this price tag.If Nguyen had included his Exploiting Regulars workbook in How I Made My First Million, then I'd have an easy time giving it 5 stars. I just finished both of them, and together they create a "super system" for beating no limit cash games. Alone, the reader is probably wishing he had a whole lot more.Awake!Venger As'Nas SatanisIpsissimusCult of Cthulhu1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. How I Made My First Million From PokerBy klaudia86It really doesn't say you much about strategic aspects of poker, which is really cool. There are plenty of books about playing certain types of hands, certain boards etc. But this book was for me more about how to become a better poker player in relation to your life, friends, future etc.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. • Quantification of Luck and Skill in Texas Hold'em Frederic Paik
Quantification of Luck and Skill in Texas Hold’em Frederic Paik Schoenberg 1. Introduction. Las Vegas, Nevada, July 11, 2015. It is day 4 of the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event. The tournament began with 6,420 players paying $10,000 apiece to enter the tournament. Now only about 400 remain. Some are legendary poker professionals, while others are amateurs taking a shot at poker glory. The tension and drama increase each hand, as millions of dollars and the title of World Champion hang in the balance with each card dealt and each poker decision made. Winning the tournament will clearly require not only great skill but also a huge amount of luck as well. The determination of whether poker is primarily a game of luck or skill has been the subject of intense legal debate. For instance, in 2007 an English court ruled that poker is primarily a game of luck in finding the owner of the Gutshot Club in central London guilty of violating the Gaming Act, which requires a license to host games of chance but not games of skill (Cacciotollo 2007). On the other hand, in 2009 the organizer of a poker club in Colorado was found not guilty of illegal gambling on games of chance in a trial where the jury agreed with a statistician's testimony contending that poker is a game of skill (Hannum and Cabot 2009). As laws differ around the world regarding the legality of gambling on games of skill or games of luck, a clear definition of whether poker is a game primarily of skill or luck might have broad legal implications.

  • Ivey, Kassela Und Nguyen Schreiben WSOP Geschichte

  • WSOP 2008: Zusammenfassung Events #27 Bis #30
