Katie Roscorla: Presentation to the PCC on the Parish Giving Scheme, a new stewardship initiative with many advantages including linking donors’ giving to inflation and enabling parishes to receive Gift Aid monthly rather than annually. It was agreed by the PCC members that the next step for Totnes with Bridgetown is to invite Katie Roscorla to Sunday services at St Mary’s and St John’s to explain the scheme to members of the congregation. The Rector to organise. 4. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING Minutes of the last meeting proposed for approval by P Rogers. Seconded: Z Hillier. Agreed unanimously. 5. MATTERS ARISING The Rector reported that the St Cecilia Evensong was very successful. The new hymn books are now in use. The Rector thanked the Friends for funding their purchase. The dedication scheme is slow and needs to be promoted through the newsletter/newssheet. St John’s loop – John Derbyshire dealing. Parish magazine – J Hall – 100 copies printed on the last run and were all gone by 18 December. A suggestion to charge for the magazines may be considered in future but involves a great deal of administration. 6. TREASURER’S REPORT The annual accounts are being prepared for approval by the PCC.

High Style Queen Anne House, 1315 McKinley Avenue featuring an irregular roof form and slightly off-center two-story tower with conical roof on the front elevation. The single-story porch has an off-center entry accented with a shallow pediment. Eastlake details like spindles, a turned balustrade, and turned posts adorn the porch, which extends across the full front elevation and wraps around one corner. The house at 1315 McKinley Avenue also displays a wraparound porch, spindle detailing, steep roof, fish scale wall shingles, and cut-away bay on the front elevation. An umbrage porch on the second floor and multi-level gables on the primary façade add to the asymmetrical character of the house. More typical examples of Queen Anne houses in the district display a variety of these stylistic features. Examples of more common Queen Anne residences in Bay City include 1214 Fifth Street, 600 North Monroe Street, and 1516 Sixth Street (Figures 6.2-9, 6.2-10, and 6.2-11). In general, these buildings have irregular footprints and roof forms. Hipped roofs with cross-gabled bays are common, as are hip-on-gable or jerkinhead details. Porch styles vary but typically extend across the full or partial length of the front elevation and wrap around the building corner.

Nigel Guthrie Seconder Canon Anna Norman-Walker I have served on General Synod as one of your Proctors in Convocation since 2012, replacing Archdeacon Penny Driver when she moved to Cumbria. I am standing in this election as I would like to continue to represent colleagues in the diocese as a Synod member and in doing so, to offer the experience gained over those three years and to build upon it. My twenty-five years of ordained ministry have all been in the diocese of Exeter: first as curate in the Ilfracombe Team in north Devon from 1990-94; as chaplain to Bishop Hewlett Thompson from 1994-98; then from 1998-2015 as parish priest for the rural group of parishes in mid Devon which became the Netherexe mission community; and from earlier this year in the present post, in which the main focus of ministry is south and central Devon from Torbay and the South Hams to Dartmoor and northward. For the past six years I’ve also served as elected chair of the House of Clergy (a role from which I am retiring this year) and for many years as a rural dean and an archdeaconry warden of Readers. In all those capacities I have had the privilege of getting to know this large, diverse diocese and its clergy pretty well. If elected, I would continue to bring to the General Synod not so much the perspective of any one party or group as that of our diocese as a whole, in particular its priests and deacons.

    Diocesan Board of Education Members The Venerable Douglas Dettmer Archdeacon of Totnes (Chair) Douglas grew up in Kansas, in the midwest of the USA. Having read English at the University of Kansas and Divinity at Yale University, he came to England to serve as curate in the Ilfracombe Team Ministry in North Devon, then to Exeter as Domestic Chaplain to Bishop Hewlett Thompson, after which he was for seventeen years a country priest in the Exe Valley, latterly looking after the eight Netherexe Parishes before becoming Archdeacon of Totnes in 2015. Douglas is a member of the General Synod of the Church of England and of its Rural Affairs Group and Legal Advisory Commission, and chairs the Exeter Diocesan Board of Education which supports about 130 Church of England schools. He and Chloë live in Bovey Tracey. Fr. Robert Harris (Vice Chair) is the Team Rector of Plympton and Vice Chair of the Exeter Diocesan Board of Education. He also chairs the Schools Organisation & Governance Group of EDBE, and is an ex officio governor at the CE VA school in his parish. He has over almost thirty years of experience as a governor in Church and Community schools and academies covering the whole age range within the maintained system. He also has over twenty years’ experience as a member of the Board of Education in three different dioceses. He has always tried to have a ‘hands-on’ approach, believing that there is far more to governance than attending meetings and that it is only through active engagement with pupils, staff, parents and governors that we can truly know and serve our schools.
