Eastern werden auch als Kampfsport-Filme oder auch Kung Fu-Filme (mit denen alles begann) bezeichnet. Eastern gibt es bereits seit dem Anfang der Filmgeschichte. Die ersten Eastern stammen aus Asien, seit den 80er Jahren gibt es allerdings auch viele amerikanische Eastern. Eastern lassen sich wiederum in mehrere Sub-Genres unterteilen: Martial-Arts-Filme: Filme, die mit einem Schwerpunkt auf die Darstellung von Kampfszenen unter das Genre des Actionfilms oder auch Action-Komödie fallen. Dazu zählen Kung- Fu- (Shaolin Kung Fu-), Tae Kwon Do-, Karate-, Muay Thai- und Kickbox-Filme. Kung Fu-Filme sind hier deutlich in der Überzahl und mit ihnen fing alles an. Ninja-Filme: Filme, in denen Ninjas vorkommen. Ninja (von japanisch Ninja = Jemand im Geheimen), ein Schattenkrieger des vorindustriellen Japans, der als Kundschafter, Spion, Saboteur oder Meuchelmörder eingesetzt wurde. Er ist neben dem Samurai eine der gefürchtetsten und gleichzeitig am meisten bewunderten Gestalten des alten Japan. Die Kampfsportart der Ninja nennt man Ninjutsu. Samurai-Filme: Filme, in denen Samurai vorkommen. Die Samurai oder auch Bushi genannt, waren Mitglieder des Kriegerstandes im vorindustriellen Japan. Ninja-Filme erfreuen sich aber einer größeren Beliebtheit, da der Ninja ein geheimnisvoller und mystischer Schattenkrieger ist. Ein willenloses Werkzeug seines Herrn, der aus dem Nichts auftauchte, seinen Auftrag erfüllte und unerkannt abtauchte. Dieses unerkannte Operieren und die Ausübung als Meuchelmörder ist der Grund für den Gegensatz des „ehrvollen“, adligen Samurai und des „ehrlosen“, gefürchteten Ninja. Wuxia-Filme: Filme, in denen Wuxia vorkommen. Wuxia (von chinesisch Wuxia = ritterliche Kampfkunst) sind chinesische ritterliche Schwertkämpfer. Diese Filme handeln von Schwertkämpfern, Schlachten, Soldaten- und Reiterkämpfen, die überwiegend an historischen oder pseudohistorischen Schauplätzen spielen. Das Genre besitzt starke phantastische Elemente wie beispielsweise das utopisch weite Springen oder „Fliegen“ eines Schwertkämpfers in den Baumkronen oder auf Dächern. In diesem Kapitel „Tae Kwon Do - Kampfsport-Filme“ werden geniale Kultfilme (siehe weiter unten) vorgestellt, die man einfach mal gesehen haben muss. Teilweise uralte Eastern aber die Besten die es gibt, wenn es um meisterhafte Tae Kwon Do- und Kung Fu-Techniken geht. Mittlerweile gibt es die erfolgreichsten Eastern auch als DVD-Neuauflage und viele sind in Videotheken erhältlich. Dies ist die meiner Meinung nach umfangreichste, optisch und funktionell gelungenste englischsprachige Filmdatenbank, die einfach alles über die guten alten Eastern und deren Darsteller beinhaltet. Mit vielen Screenshots (Fotos) und sogar Trailern (Filmausschnitte)! Von jedem bekannten Eastern-Schauspieler wurde eine große Fotogalerie mit vielen Screenshots aus Filmen zusammengestellt, wobei auch der Titel des jeweiligen Films meist mit angegeben wird. Viele Schauspieler sind unter mehreren Künstlernamen (aka-Namen = also known as) bekannt, ebenso haben die Filme meist mehrere Titel. Diese Datenbank führt alle aka-Namen und aka-Titel auf, nach denen man ebenfalls suchen kann. www.rarekungfumovies.com Diese englischsprachige Filmdatenbank ähnelt vom Inhalt der hkcinemagic-Website, ist aber optisch nicht so schön und auch nicht so funktionell und umfangreich. Sie enthält ebenfalls viele Screenshots aus Filmen und eine gelungene Auflistung aller Schauspieler mit Foto, sortiert nach Bekanntheitsgrad inklusive Informationen zu jedem Film, bei dem der jeweilige Darsteller mitgewirkt hat. Es können sogar ganz legal indizierte Filme bestellt werden, die man sonst nirgendwo mehr erhält! Wenn man auf TV/Kino klickt und dann auf TV Programm, folgt eine Auflistung aller Kampfsport-Filme/Eastern aller Sender des jeweiligen Monats. Diese Website ist eine englischsprachige Filmdatenbank und ähnelt der deutschsprachigen OFDb-Website. Interessant ist die Auflistung der Schauspieler eines Films. Hierbei werden die realen Schauspielernamen den Filmnamen zugeordnet. Dies ist besonders hilfreich, wenn man den Schauspielernamen eines bestimmten Film-Charakters sucht. www.kungfucinema.com Eine englischsprachige Kung Fu-Filmdatenbank. www.filmposter-archiv.de Poster und Cover von Filmen. www.martialinfo.com Englischsprachige Website mit Informationen über jeden bedeutenden Kämpfer weltweit. Online-Filmdatenbank www.ofdb.de OFDb = Online-Filmdatenbank. OFDb ist die meiner Meinung nach umfangreichste und userfreundlichste deutsche Filmdatenbank mit einem seriösen Online Shop, einem Gebrauchtmarkt und einem TV-Programm (Abb. 1). Es können sogar ganz legal indizierte Filme bestellt werden, die man sonst nirgendwo mehr erhält! Wer ein Fan von ungeschnittenen Filmen ist und nach „Uncut-Versionen“ sucht, wird hier fündig. Es können auch Hardcore-Filme bestellt werden. Zu fast jedem Medium (z.B. DVD oder VHS) gibt es ein Cover-Foto von der Vorder- und Rückseite. Zu jedem Film gibt es detaillierte Informationen zum Format, Inhalt, Verpackung, Bonusmaterial, Label, Freigabe-Status, Indiziert-Status, Cut-Status (Scherensymbol), VÖ-Termin und vieles mehr. Ferner gibt es eine Auflistung aller weltweit hergestellten Medien und das Datum einer eventuellen TV-Ausstrahlung mit Cut-Information. Damit noch nicht genug, kann man mit dem kostenlosen Programm Griffith (eine kostenlose, geniale Filmdatenbank für zu Hause, siehe unten, siehe DVD:\Programme\Tools) einen Online-Abgleich mit OFDb erstellen. Man trägt nur den Namen des Films ein, den man besitzt und alle Filminformationen inklusive Cover werden per Mausklick von der OFDb-Datenbank abgerufen und auf der Festplatte abgespeichert. So hat man seine DVD Sammlung sehr schnell und vor allem äußerst komfortabel katalogisiert. Abb. 1: Screenshot der Website www.ofdb.de. 5 Griffith - Filmsammlungsmanager http://griffith.berlios.de Griffith = Umfangreicher Freeware Filmsammlungsmanager Griffith ist meiner Meinung nach der mit Abstand Beste und dazu noch kostenlose Filmsammlungs- Manager für zu Hause (Abb. 2, siehe DVD:\Programme\Tools). Eine Filmdatenbank, die keine Wünsche offen lässt. Das Besondere daran ist, dass man nur den Titel eines Films eingibt und dann per Mausklick alle Filminformationen inklusive Cover von der Online-Filmdatenbank OFDb abrufen kann (Abb. 2b). So kann man seine Filmesammlung sehr schnell und komfortabel katalogisieren. Das Design des Programms ist außerordentlich gut gelungen und die Funktionen sind sehr umfangreich. An alles wurde gedacht: Filterfunktion, Suchfunktion, Verleihverwaltung und vieles mehr. Man kann jedem Film eine individuelle Bewertung geben oder die Bewertung der OFDb-User übernehmen. Mit der Filterfunktion kann man nun alle Filme auflisten, die beispielsweise eine Bewertung von 10 haben. Durch den Online-Abgleich mit OFDb wurden auch alle Schauspieler und das Genre eines Films abgespeichert. So kann man sich beispielsweise mit der Filterfunktion alle Eastern-Filme (Abb. 2a) oder alle Filme mit dem Schauspieler John Liu anzeigen lassen. Mit der Verleihverwaltung kann man angeben ob, wann und an wen man einen Film verliehen hat. Nach Ablauf der Verleihfrist wird sogar eine E-Mail Erinnerung an die betreffende Person verschickt. Man kann bei jedem Film angeben ob man ihn schon gesehen hat oder nicht. Dadurch kann man alle ungesehenen Filme auflisten. Ferner können eigene Kriterien definiert werden, beispielsweise die Eigentumszugehörigkeit. Ein Häkchen bei einer Person zeigt dann an, wem der Film gehört. Despite the break from Maoism following the fall of the Gang of Four and Deng Xiaoping’s movement towards capitalist modernization, the brutal events of Tiananmen Square caused great concern for a territory facing many changes in the near future. Even before these disturbing events Hong Kong’s imminent return to a motherland with a different dialect and social customs evoked insecurity on the part of a population still remembering the violent events of the Cultural Revolution as well as the Maoist- inspired riots that affected the colony in 1967.

    MIYAKI Yukio (GONG Muduo) 宮木幸雄（龔慕鐸）（b. 1934） Cinematographer Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Miyaki joined Ari Production in 1952 and once worked as assistant to cinematographer Inoue Kan. He won an award with TV programme Kochira Wa Shakaibu in Japan in 1963. There are many different accounts on how he eventually came to work in Hong Kong. One version has it that he came in 1967 with Japanese director Furukawa Takumi to shoot The Black Falcon (1967) and Kiss and Kill (1967) for Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Ltd. Another version says that the connection goes back to 1968 when he helped Chang Cheh film the outdoor scenes of Golden Swallow (1968) and The Flying Dagger (1969) in Japan. Yet another version says that he signed a contract with Shaws as early as 1965. By the mid-1970s, under the Chinese pseudonym Gong Muduo, Miyaki worked as a cinematographer exclusively for Chang Cheh’s films. He took part in over 30 films, including The Singing Thief (1969), Return of the One-armed Swordsman (1969), The Invincible Fist (1969), Dead End (1969), Have Sword, Will Travel (1969), Vengeance!     ALSO LIKE LIFE: THE FILMS OF HOU HSIAO-HSIEN New addition: Hou Hsiao-Hsien In Conversation at BFI Southbank – Monday 14 September Thursday 13 August 2015, London The BFI is delighted to announce that one of the leading figures of the Taiwanese New Wave Hou Hsiao-Hsien, whose latest film The Assassin won Best Director at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will make a very rare visit to the UK to take part in an In Conversation event at BFI Southbank. The event, which takes place on Monday 14 September, is part of Also Life Life: The Films of Hou Hsiao- Hsien, a major retrospective celebrating Hou’s work, which takes place from 2 Sept – 6 Oct 2015 at BFI Southbank. Hou-Hsiao-Hsien has helped put Taiwanese cinema on the international map with work that explores the island’s rapidly changing present as well as its turbulent, often bloody past, and is one of the best examples in world cinema of a director who found his own distinctive style and voice while working on the job. The season will kick off with Cute Girl (1980), Cheerful Wind (1981) and The Green Green Grass of Home (1982), all starring Hong Kong pop star Kenny Bee; these early films offer a mixture of comedy and romance and begin to show Hou’s interest in Taiwan’s regional differences, a key theme of his later films. Hou’s other early films such as The Sandwich Man (1983) and The Boys from Fengkuei (1983) dramatised engaging life stories – including his own in The Time to Live and the Time to Die (1985).

Dos primeiros filmes, mais comerciais, passou para os de memórias pessoais e outros sobre a memória de seu país de adoção, consolidando atualmente um estilo visual e narrativo dos mais sofistica- dos da história do cinema. Tais filmes conferiram a Hou Hsiao-Hsien o reconhecimento da crítica e das curadorias de importantes festivais e vêm, desta forma, consagrando o cineasta como um dos maiores mestres da cinematografia mundial contemporânea. Ao realizar Hou Hsiao-Hsien e o cinema de memórias fragmentadas, o Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil reconhece a importância deste cineasta e proporciona ao público de São Paulo, do Rio de Janeiro e de Brasília a oportunidade de conferir toda a sua filmografia, em retrospectiva que abarca 17 filmes em longa-metragem – todos inéditos no circuito comercial brasileiro –, além do curta-metragem O bonecão do filhinho (Son’s Big Doll / Er zi de da wan’ou), que integra O homem-sanduíche (The Sandwich Man / Er zi de da wan’ou, 1983), um dos filmes-chave na renovação do cinema taiwanês. A mostra constitui uma valiosa oportunidade para os que procuram acompanhar o desenvolvimento do audio- visual contemporâneo e conferir propostas instigantes e de grande apuro estético.
