ITINERARY – JUNE 14 – 29

Purpose of the trip: As students in training to become Global Citizens and leaders, we ask our students to think about the world and the interconnectedness we share with everyone in it. What we do here, today, matters. It matters to our WMA community as well as to the greater Wilbraham community that surrounds us. It matters to Western Massachusetts and the United States...it matters in , Angola, China, Korea, Germany and Italy...and all of the other homes of WMA classmates and friends. Understanding how we live, hearing how we speak at home, and eating food that is typical of our ethnicities are ways to learn about each others’ differences. Once we understand the differences, we can begin to understand each other and appreciate our cultures.

For these reasons, in , Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo we will be visiting the homes of our students, meeting their families, and seeing their schools. In Ningbo, we will be hosted by one of the dads who will show us his manufacturing plant and explain the Chinese business model. Hopefully, when we return, we will have a greater understanding of the Chinese culture and we will be able to begin a dialog that speaks to how alike we are.
