How does Blake's background in Quentin Blake: An Artist at Work inform his work? And what is the relationsh Quentin Blake is one of the foremost illustrators of the twentieth century. And what is the relationship between the work he makes and the life he leads? Distinguished curator Ghislaine Kenyon spent a great deal of time with Blake and in this biography, she provides profound insight into an extraordinary man and his remarkable body of work. A shared enthusiasm for education brought Kenyon and Blake together. She followed Blake during the years he continued to work "off the page," producing work for hospitals in Angers and Paris and staging major exhibitions around the world. Kenyon shows that Blake's life informs his illustrations and his artwork, in turn, informs his life--a life which is extremely private, mysterious, and full of complexities and ambiguities. Kenyon has produced not merely a biography but a critical view Quentin Blake: An Artist at Work the artist's work. This book is a fitting tribute to Quentin Blake's journey and to his great artistic legacy. Get A Copy. Hardcoverpages. He's not keen on swimming "just wallowing" despite his especially glorious 'swimming' works. He is not, or was not, in old fashioned parlance, 'right-on' but it is clear that he listens carefully and makes changes implicitly so that his work beautifully embraces diversity. The chapter on 'Healing', his work for health care settings, suggests this single childless man, an artist, has insights professionals lack although he stimulates those insights in others with his work Aug 11, Derelict Space Sheep rated it liked it Shelves: biography. Billy, a young boy, comes across an old sweet shop which he dreams about renovating. There was not much of a conflict which was needed to be solved, and I didn't see any objective to it. With another child protagonist as attentive readers will see, many Dahl tales are narrated by children , the story progresses. The story flows well and the characters work well together to forge a strong story and decent collection of morals and lessons that are threaded throughout. This is one Roald Dahl book I'd actually never heard of! The book itself is full of adventure and excitement. Eventually, the police arrive to arrest the burglar, whom the Chief of Police identifies as "The Cobra", one of the world's most dangerous cat burglars. I like to start the year with some fluffy books where nothing can go wrong. Events News. It was so much fun to listen to Laurie read such a childish story! The story tells of easy friendships, adventure and finding something you're really good at even if it might not be what other people picture you doing - and doing it with gusto. In general, it's written as well as all his others but I think the emphasis on the whimsy really helped this particular story, especially since it was more along the lines of almost- believable whimsy.
