On the second weekend of August, the logging town of Morton, Washington honors its heritage with a Main Street parade, lawnmower races and their world- famous logging show. It’s been going for 74 years and counting!

Located in Lewis County, Washington, Morton has a popula - tion of 1,126 people. The town was founded in 1871 and was named after US President Benjamin Harrison’s VP Levi Mor - ton . The town was incorporated in 1913 and its commerce MORTON came from logging and mining. Tacoma Eastern Railroad gave a huge boost to the town laying track nearby. Morton’s Chamber of Commerce gathered funds and made the Ju - WASHINGTON bilee show grounds, with construction beginning in 1952. IN THIS ISSUE
