He also has a Master’s Degree in agricultural chemistry and a Ph.D. in biochemistry. He got his M.D. from the University of Toronto in 1949 and completed psychiatric training in 1954. His early work let to the use of vitamin B3 in treating schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions and he demonstrated the effectiveness of niacin as an anti-cholesterol treatment.
