Backstrom also became the second player from his 2006 NHL Draft class to reach the 900 game mark (: 1,000 games played). Backstrom’s 878 career points (232g, 646a) leads his draft class, as does his 646 career assists. Since his rookie season in 2007-08, his 646 assists rank first in the NHL. He’s the only player in the NHL to record at least 50 assists in each of the last six seasons and one of 26 players all-time to string together six consecutive 50-assist seasons. Of the 25 other players to accomplish this feat, 23 are in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the other two players (Joe Thornton and ) are not yet eligible. Backstrom, who registered one assist on Thursday, is now three assists shy of passing (648) for the fifth most assists among Swedish-born players and eight points shy of passing Peter Forsberg (885) for the seventh-most points by a Swedish-born player in NHL history.

In the history of the NHL, there have been 6,305 players that have scored 135 total goals or fewer in their careers. Should Ovechkin record another 50 goals this season, which would mark his ninth 50-goal season in his career, Ovechkin will tie Mike Gartner (708) for the seventh most goals in NHL history and pass Robitaille (668), Selanne (684), Mario Lemieux (690), Steve Yzerman (692) and Mark Messier (694).

Shots - Through six games, the Capitals have recorded 179 shots, the fifth-most in the NHL, and have allowed 165, out-shooting their opponents in four out of their six games. LAST GAME - Oct. 12 (Arizona 2 at Colorado 3 in OT) Andre Burakovsky scored at 3:29 of overtime to give the Avalanche their fourth straight win to start the season, 3-2 over the Arizona Coyotes at Pepsi Center. Pavel Francouz made 34 saves to pick up his first career win in his first NHL start. Nazem Kadri and Tyson Jost scored third-period goals for the Avs and Cale Makar added two assists to become the first defenseman in franchise history to record points in each of his first four career games.

TONIGHT The Colorado Avalanche begins a season-long, six-game road trip tonight in Washington D.C. against the Capitals. The Avs, who are scheduled for a pair of five-game road swings as well (Nov. 12-21 and Feb. 1-9), will have three road trips of five or more games for just the second time in franchise history (also 1999-00). This trip includes stops in D.C., Pittsburgh, Florida, Tampa, St. Louis and Vegas. However, the Avs will return home for a few days after St. Louis before finishing the trip in Vegas. The Avalanche just finished 4-0 on their season-opening, four-game homestand, the club's longest home stay to begin a season in franchise history.

STARTING STRONG The Avs have started a season 4-0-0 for just the second time since relocating to Denver (6-0-0 in 2013-14). Overall, this is the fifth time that the Avalanche/Nordiques have won their first four games of a season.

HOME COOKING Colorado is 4-0 at Pepsi Center this year and has won 10 straight regular-season home games dating back to last year, matching the franchise record for the longest home winning streak including multiple seasons. The Avs are 15-2-1 in their last 18 regular-season contests on home ice. If you include the club's 4-1 home record during the playoffs, the Avs are 14-1-0 in their last 15 games at Pepsi Center and 19-3-1 in their last 23.

• The last time Colorado won its first four home games to start a season was in 2009-10 (6-0-0). • This marks the fourth time that Colorado/Quebec has ever won 10 consecutive home games and the first time over multiple seasons. The Avalanche won 10 straight at Pepsi Center from Dec. 29, 2017–Feb. 14, 2018 and the Nordiques won 10 straight at Le Colisee twice, March 6–April 16, 1995 and Nov. 26, 1983–Jan. 10, 1984. • The Avalanche's 4-0-0 season-opening homestand marked the first time they've swept a homestand of at least four games since Dec. 17-23, 2011 (4-0-0).

MAKAR FOR MORE HISTORY Cale Makar is the first defenseman in franchise history to open his career with points in each of his first four regular-season games. With a goal or an assist tonight, Makar would become only the fifth defenseman in NHL history to record points in each of his first five career games (see below). Makar, who joined the Avs during their first round series against Calgary last spring, was the first defenseman in league history to score a goal while making his NHL debut in the .

THREE'S COMPANY The Avalanche has scored three-plus goals in every game this season, marking just the second time since relocating to Denver that the club has scored at least three goals in each of its first four contests (also 2005-06). No Avalanche club has ever done that in five straight to open a campaign. The Avs scored four or more goals in each of their first three games this year, which was an Avalanche first. Colorado is averaging exactly 4.0 goals-per-game so far, which tied them for third among NHL teams as of Sunday. Colorado finished 10th in scoring last season with 258 goals, the club's highest total since 2006-07 (267).

FIRST FOR FRANKIE Pavel Francouz stopped 34-of-36 shots to pick up the win in his first career NHL start on Saturday night against Arizona. Francouz became the first Avalanche goaltender to earn the victory in first career NHL start since Vitaly Kolesnik on Dec. 7, 2005 vs. Boston. Peter Budaj (Oct. 8, 2005 at Dallas) and David Aebischer (Oct. 18, 2000 at Columbus) are the only others to win their first NHL starts since the franchise relocated from Quebec. Francouz joined Sergei Mylnikov (31 years, 162 days on March 17, 1990) as the second goaltender in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to record his first win at age 29 or older.

HIGHER POWER Colorado's power-play unit has scored in all four games, going 5-for-18 (27.8%). If they strike again, it will mark the first time in 10 years (2009-10) that the Avs have scored a power-play goal in each of their first five games. That 2009-10 club did it in their first six contests. The Avs were seventh in the NHL in power-play percentage at 22.0% last season, the club’s second straight top-10 finish after ranking eighth the year before. It was the first time in 13 years that the PP unit finished among the top 10 in back-to-back seasons.

AVS & CAPITALS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Capitals and Colorado's lone visit to D.C.
