Nice people Trevligt folk Film screening and activities NICE PEOPLE – FILM SCREENINGPRESSMATERIAL AND ACTIVITIESLärarhandledning för högstadiet 1 PRESSMATERIAL Lärarhandledning för högstadiet Nice people Trevligt folk Film screening and activities ABOUT THE PROJECT Nice People (Trevligt folk) is a Swedish docu- mentary following the first ever Somali national bandy team in their struggle to reach the World Championship in Siberia 2014. The young players did not, however, live in Somalia; they live in Borlänge, Sweden. And none of them had ever been on a pair of ice skates before. Photos: Copyright Mexiko Media, Stockholm 1 Nice people Trevligt folk Film screening and activities In Borlänge, there were 3,000 Somalis at the time the movie was filmed. The introduction to the filmNice People shows a society of contradic- tions, prejudices and ignorance. Patrik Andersson, initiator of the Somali bandy team, decides to create a meeting place through sport. He looks out over the city and says: ‘This is a city we are going to change!’ The film puts Borlänge on the map and shows the power of real meetings between people. ‘An important message in this film is that nothing is impossible. That’s an image not to be underestimated. The goalkeeper of the team has fled from war and despair. Two months later he began playing bandy and after eight months he was named one of the World Championship’s most valued players,’ says Jan-Olof Lundberg, integration strategist in Borlänge (quote from local newspaper Nytt i Falun och Borlänge, January 2015). The material is produced by the Order of the Teaspoon, a foundation established in 2006 by the magazine Vi.

  • Bandy - Overview Bandy Is One of the Most Popular Winter Sports Around the World
COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Bandy - Overview Bandy is one of the most popular winter sports around the world. After hockey, bandy is having huge number of participants from all over the world. As the sport is played a lot like ice hockey, it is mostly confused with it and generally considered as a form of hockey as well. Bandy is played in two halves of 45 minutes each. There are eleven players in each team and the field is more or less the same as a soccer field. This sport is played with bowed sticks and a ball. Bandy is played by two teams. With the help of proper co-ordination and teamwork, each team has to try to direct the ball with bowed sticks into the other team’s goal. A Brief History of Bandy THANKS FOR READING – VISIT OUR WEBSITE www.educatererindia.com COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Inception of this game has occurred long back in 18th century in Russia. Though the game was pretty much similar as that of hockey, but the rules were not. They were not as standardized as of today. The rules got modified in England much later. Starting match of this sport was organized in England in the year 1875. Due to its playing environment, it was named as hockey on the ice then but first international match of bandy was played in 1902 in Sweden. Soon after that it was introduced into the 1905 Nordic games. Difference between Ice Hockey and Bandy Ice hockey and bandy are played on ice using a hockey stick but both of them have a lot of differences.

  • World Championship Games Varkaus 2019 28.2 – 2.3.2019
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES VARKAUS 2019 28.2 – 2.3.2019 Welcome! Participating players of girls Y17 World Championships and other team members as well as spectators here in Varkaus and everybody following the games. Bandy has always been the top sport in Varkaus and next year is celebrating the 85th anniversary of the oldest of local bandy clubs WP 35. The city of Varkaus and WP 35 are in close co-operation providing sports opportunities for youths and national level bandy games for spectators in legendary Kamari-area. And now the city and the club are organizing together these World Championships. Varkaus has since the thirties been a town known around Finland as the ‘bandy- town’ and it’s not unusual that junior players of this decade are third generation of the family playing bandy in the same club. Last golden period of bandy in Varkaus was the first half of the 90’s when WP 35 took 4 consecutive national championships. Since then there has been a change of generation and now there are talented young players looking for new success. I hope these Championships provide inspiration for those players. On behalf of my own and Varkaus city I welcome everybody to Varkaus and wish you all successful games. Hannu Tsupari Mayor of Varkaus City of Varkaus, Finnish Bandy federation and the organization committee would like to welcome you all to Youth Girls 17 Bandy World championship games which are held 28th February to 2th March in Varkaus. We have gathered an info-package for you that your stay at Varkaus would be as easy as possible.
