The only American-breds in Animal Kingdom=s first three generations are Candy Stripes, his paternal grandsire who raced in France, and Dancing Brave, the British-based superstar who sired his second dam Dynamis. American-breds are also rather scarce among the 16 horses in Animal Kingdom=s fourth generation, the exceptions being Red God, Lyphard (who appears twice), Sookera and Navajo Princess. Of these, Red God started his racing career in England, while Lyphard and Sookera raced exclusively in Europe.

The juvenile filly became the 28th Grade 1 winner for a public partnership that Irwin has put together, and the second so far in 2017, joining Brazilian champion 2- year-old filly Love ‘n’ Happiness. Team Valor acquired Capla Temptress in late July after Irwin was impressed by the way she won a novice race at Newmarket after debuting with a victory on Polytrack at Chelmsford Capla Temptress conquers the only juvenile Grade 1 on turf besides the two Breeders’ Cup divisions. City. Irwin kept her with trainer Marco Botti, with whom the stable had campaigned Grade 1 winners Gitano Hernando and Euro Charline, and she shipped over to Toronto after finishing a solid third in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on August 12. The Lope De Vega filly will point for the Grade 1, $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on November 3 at Del Mar. Jockey Joel Rosario listened intently to Irwin’s instructions and provided a textbook ride. After Capla Temptress was squeezed between Golden Orb and Wonder Gadot at the start, Rosario succeeded in getting her covered up, which had been elusive in the Sweet Solera.

Bill Oppenheim, October 2-Kerali Reunion KERALI REUNION The biggest news in the breeding world last week was the announcement that Kirsten Rausing=s Lanwades Stud near Newmarket has done a deal to bring Animal Kingdom=s sire and Dansili=s cousin Leroidesanimaux over from his current base in Florida for the 2014 season. It=s great news for European Leroidesanimaux breeders, who Horsephotos knew >Leroi=, as he seems to be universally known, would always be a welcome addition to European stallion ranks. Even before he was the sire of Animal Kingdom, the only horse to win the GI Kentucky Derby (dirt) and the G1 Dubai World Cup (AW)--plus, don=t forget, he gave Wise Dan a scare in last year=s GI Breeders= Cup Mile on the turf--Leroidesanimaux had great credentials to stand in Europe. Bred in Brazil and by the leading Argentine sire Candy Stripes (by Blushing Groom) out of a half-sister to Hasili, dam of five Group 1 winners plus Dansili, under the tutelage of the incomparable Bobby Frankel >Leroi= reeled off eight wins in a row over two seasons on the grass in North America in 2004-05--the last six with Beyers all between 109-115--before Artie Schiller stopped his streak in the 2005 GI Breeders= Cup Mile. Even so, >Leroi= was deservedly voted U.S. Grass Champion in 2005. >Leroi= entered stud in Kentucky in 2006, and stood there for five seasons before moving to Florida, where he has stood the last three. Owner/breeder/trainer Jim Bolger was on to him early, and trained >A Runner= colts (though neither black-type winners) from his first two crops: Marbach, who Bolger bought at Goffs, ran second in the 2009 Goffs= Million; and Glor Na Mara, who Bolger bred in Leroi=s second crop, placed in six group races, including running third in Frankel=s G1 Dewhurst S.
