  • For Someone with a Reputation As Something of a Recluse, Kevin Parker Is a Pretty Friendly Guy. Or at Least That's the Impress
SAVILLE MATT WORDS JOHN LUCAS For someone with a reputation as something of a way it’s always been. It’s totally a solo project Earth. It’s really difficult to do that with guitars, recluse, Kevin Parker is a pretty friendly guy. Or in the studio, but no one seems to consider it because whatever you do with a guitar, it’s usually at least that’s the impression the frontman for that. Everything I’ve read has just been ‘Tame going to end up sounding like a guitar. It’s going Australian psychedelic-rock outfit Tame Impala Impala, the band.’ I’m not really put off by that or to have that kind of earthy, rock ’n’ roll feel. But gives when he’s reached on tour in Austria. You anything. It’s just the way people see it, because with synthesizers, they just start in a completely could be forgiven, though, for assuming that they see a bunch of guys on a stage playing the different place. It was just really kind of exciting Parker lives a hermetic life. After all, he does live songs, so they assume it’s a band, but it’s totally to have this whole new playing field of sounds and in Perth, Australia, which has been described as not. When we play them live, we all get together emotions.” the world’s most remote city, and he did name the and take the song that’s already been recorded latest Tame Impala album Lonerism. The previous and interpret it. We just sort of have fun with it, As much as Tame Impala’s music makes ideal bliss- one, released in 2010, bore the navel-gazing title basically, and that becomes the live version.” out fodder for those who like to indulge in things Innerspeaker, and its standout track, “Solitude green and leafy, Parker’s command of melody Is Bliss”, contained one of Parker’s most telling Impressively, Lonerism sounds like the product makes it worthy listening for those who simply lyrical couplets: “There’s a party in my head/And of a group of people.

SEEING CHANGE: Techniques of Transition in the Three-Dimensional Space of Recorded Popular Song by MAXWELL CHRISTIAN BORTS ZATARAIN A THESIS Presented to the School of Music and Dance and the Robert D. Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Music November 2015 An Abstract of the Thesis of Maxwell Christian Borts Zatarain for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the Department of Music to be taken December, 2015 Title: SEEING CHANGE: Techniques of Transition in the Arrangement of Recorded Popular Song Loren Kajikawa This thesis presents a study of the recorded form of popular music through a visual lens. It seeks to show how we conceive of music visually through spatio-visual language such as high-pitch and low-pitch, and how these spatio-visual conceptual metaphors point towards the recorded from as a spatio-visual space. Second, it seeks to define the parameters of this three-dimensional spatio-visual space through the three axes of height, width, and depth. Third, it seeks to identify and define techniques of transition used by producers and musicians seeking to navigate the moment to moment transitions that give music its vitality. 11 Copyright Page If you are assigning a different than standard copyright, such as a Creative Commons license, include that information here.
