Editorial T. I. College Old Students Association Germany is lucky in that our beloved Imam, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (ayyadahullah) has twice graced us with his presence in our annual get-together in the last six years of our existence and has encouraged and guided us in several ways. In our last annual meeting on 24th of September 2011, he said “you are the pioneers and U.K., U.S.A. and Canada have followed you”. At the same time he said that he had expected much more from us than what we have achieved so far. Referring to the size of the association, our Hazur said we need to enlarge membership. It is a pity that our membership is largely confined to Frankfurt area alone, whereas there are quite a number of old students in and around Hamburg and elsewhere in Germany. Hazur repeated his wish to associate our children with the association and apprise them of the spirit of Talim-ul-Islam College, so that the moral, ethical and spiritual lessons we have learnt from that great alma mater is carried on from one generation to another. We cannot afford to ignore the wishes of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih in this or in any regard. It is the obligation of both children and the parents to heed the call of Khalifatul Masih. Whereas Hazur appreciated the usefulness of T.I. College website and said it was serving a good purpose by boosting contacts among old students spread all over the word, and expressed satis- faction with its expansion and progress. He suggested that we should start the college magazine “Al-Manar” which should include some pages in German language so that our children should also benefit from what we are doing or planning to do. When Talim-ul-Islam College, under the inspiring leadership of its founding Principal, Haz- rat Sahibzada Mirza Nasir Ahmad, decided to start a college magazine, it was named “The Young Economist” and its first student editor was Dr. Abdul Karim, who later became one of the leading economists of the nation. Maulana Bashir Ahmad Rafiq, the Ex-Imam of London mosque and Prof. Chaudhry Hameedullah were also associated with it as student editors. After some years the Young Economist was renamed as Al-Manar and it was published in English and Urdu. Now that we are reviving it, we need co-operation of many of our old students to maintain the standard it had established. I know many of us may not be able to write in German, but writing in Urdu and English should not be a problem. This first issue is being given out in a hurry and may not meet our own expectations, but if our friends wholeheartedly involve themselves with interest and dedication, it should gradually improve. Last but not the least, Hazur reminded us that every organisation should have a purpose. One of our objectives has been and is to offer scholarships for deserving students in Pakistan as a token of our gratitude to the institution, its founders and its teachers who enabled us to be what we are. Six years ago we promised with Hazur to offer six scholarships annually through Nazarat Taleem, Sadar Anjuman Ahmaidyya. Whereas it is a matter of satisfaction that we have been able to fulfil that promise regularly so far, but considering the high cost of education and evering rising inflation in Pakistan we need to offer much more than what we promised in 2006. Hazur also empha- sised the need to more in this regard. Alhamdo Lillah that Allah enabled us to double the amount this year and hope to at least triple it next year. To fulfil these aims many more of our old students will have to come forward with greater commitment. At present the number of such old students is rather limited. May Allah guide and help us.
