Co-produced exclusively for Netflix, the spin-off from Zack Snyder's ARMY OF THE DEAD universe will be available worldwide on the streaming service from October 29, 2021. Matthias Schweighöfer takes the lead role of safecracker Ludwig Dieter and directed the film. ARMY OF THE DEAD already achieved records on Netflix: after just one week, the film had reached more than 72 million households worldwide, making it one of the ten most-watched Netflix films ever. The trailer for ARMY OF THIEVES, released at the end of July, expands the universe and already has more than 2.3 million clicks and around 75,000 likes on the Netflix YouTube channel. ARMY OF THIEVES is a prequel to the zombie heist movie ARMY OF THE DEAD. Small-town banker Ludwig Dieter is recruited by a mysterious woman to crack safes in a legendary heist across Europe. Besides Matthias Schweighöfer, the top-class cast includes Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Ruby O. Fee (Polar), Stuart Martin (Jamestown), and Guz Khan (Curfew). Producers are The Stone Quarry (Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller) and PANTALEON Films (Matthias Schweighöfer, Dan Maag). The story idea is from Zack Snyder and Shay Hatten, who also wrote the screenplay for ARMY OF THIEVES. Composer legend Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Inception, Gladiator) and co-composer Steve Mazarro (Boss Baby, The Rhythm Section) designed the soundtrack. Starting with Eugen K ogon, it traces the development of the “good political” versus “bad criminal.” Using prisoner and prisoner functionary testimonies, it demonstrates that this current representation is too simplistic and must be re -evaluated. This dissertation argues that for all their apparent investment in the status quo and the hegemony of white men, superhero blockbusters actually reveal the disruptive and inhuman logic of capital, which drives both technological and cultural change. Although focused on the superhero film from 2000 to 2015, this project also considers the print and electronic media across which conglomerates extend their franchises. It thereby contributes to the materialist study of popular culture and transmedia adaptation, showing how 21st century Hollywood adapts old media for new platforms, technologies, and audiences. The first chapter traces the ideology of these films to their commercial roots, arguing that screen superheroes function as allegories of intellectual property. The hero’s “brand” identity signifies stability, even as the character’s corporate owners continually revise him (rarely her).

The zombie genre is a quintessentially American construct that has been flourishing in popular culture for nearly 60 years. Since George A. Romero first pioneered the genre with 1968's Night of the Living Dead , zombie narratives have demonstrated a persistent resilience in American culture to emerge as the ultimate American horror icon. First serving as a method to exploit and react to cultural anxieties in the 1960s, the zombie genre met the decade's tumultuous violence in international conflicts like the Vietnam War and domestic revolutions like the Civil Rights Movement. It adapted in the 1970s to expose a perceived excess in consumer culture before reflecting apocalyptic fears at the height of the Cold War in the 1980s. Following a period of rest in the relatively peaceful 1990s, the genre re-emerged in the early 2000s to reflect cultural anxieties spurred on by the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the subsequent resurgence of war those attacks inspired.
