From the Vice-Chancellor’s Desk

Established on 6th September 1994 by an Act of the Parliament No. 35 of 1989 as the lone Central University in the state of Nagaland, Nagaland University has grown slowly but steadily over the past 27 years. Today we have six Schools of Studies, 42 Departments offering traditional and professional courses and three Centres of Studies. There are 67 Colleges affiliated to Nagaland University of which three have Autonomous status. The Headquarters of the University is at Lumami in Zunheboto district, Nagaland while its campuses are situated in , Medziphema and .

Along with teaching, research and extension, the University lays emphasis on skill development which is critical to success of students in the job market. We also focus on efficient teaching-learning processes by improving the quality of teaching and enabling higher competitiveness among the students in tune with the changing needs. The University is also committed to promote professionalism, creativity and innovation aimed at making a positive impact on education and research.

Nagaland University has necessary infrastructural facilities in all its campuses such as modern classrooms, libraries with extensive collection of books and journals to support teaching and research, computer lab, internet connectivity, practical and research laboratories with modern equipment, separate hostels for girls and boys, gymnasium, playgrounds, indoor stadium, auditorium, Health Centre, cafeteria and other essential amenities for students and campus residents. It makes me proud to state that many of our past students have got excellent placements within and outside the country. With experienced and dedicated team of faculty and administrative set up, the University has been able to tide over the unprecedented difficulties posed by COVID-19 pandemic and has successfully conducted the academic programmes and examinations, ensuring that the academic career of the students is not adversely affected.

NAGALAND UNIVERSITY

The Nagaland University Act was passed by the Parliament Vide No. 35.1989 and established in 1994 as a Central University. The University has Kohima Campus at Meriema, Agricultural (SASRD) Campus at Medziphema, and Engineering & Technology (SET) at Dimapur. The Headquarter has been functional since 2010 at Lumami, Zunheboto. Currently, there are Six Schools and forty two departments and 3 Centres.

“The University shall disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to make provision for integrated courses in humanities, natural and physical sciences, social sciences, agricultural sciences, disciplines in the education and forestry and other allied programmes of the university, and to take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process, inter-disciplinary studies and research to educate and train manpower for the development of the state of Nagaland, and to pay special attention to the improvement of the social economic conditions and welfare of people of the state; their intellectual and cultural development”.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO P.G PROGRAMME

It is the policy of the Nagaland University to offer equal educational opportunities to all qualified persons, provided required conditions are fulfilled by the applicant: 1. Eligible students for Major streams (internally or externally) will be given preference over General stream. 2. An applicant must have passed three-year Degree Course with Honours/Major with 50% marks and for General stream students of Arts, Commerce and Science with 55% in the concerned subject in which admission is sought. 3. For admission to LL.M. course an applicant must have LL.B. degree with 55% of marks under 10+2+3 pattern or Five years integrated course under 10+2+5 pattern. 4. 5% marks relaxation for SC/ST category will be considered. 5. Applicants who have graduated from Colleges (Private/Govt./Autonomous) affiliated to Nagaland University shall be entitled to 10% weight-age of Bonus marks over others. For instance, a candidate who had passed out from any College affiliated to Nagaland University with 60% marks in graduation will get 6% as additional weight-age and his/her total percentage will become 66% while drawing the merit index of selection. 6. The number of seats available for admission to each Department will depend upon seats authorized by the University. 7. Reservation Policy- Reservation in courses offered by Nagaland University shall be as per the laid down norms/rules of GoI and Nagaland University. Note:

1. Application for admission under sports’ quota and Employees’ quota should be routed through the respective Head of Department and Departmental Admission Committee in order of merit. 2. Only spouse/children of an employee of the University may be included under Employees’ quota. 3. When the seats reserved for different categories are not filled, the same may be allotted to the ST candidates. However, due care should be taken to ensure that the eligibility of deserving candidates under various categories are accommodated before the seats are allotted to STs. 4. For admission in M.Sc. (Anthropology) candidates with B.Sc. degree in Science subjects (even without Anthropology) with an aggregate percentage of 50 or more percentage from Nagaland University or any other UGC recognized university shall be considered. However, candidates who have taken Anthropology at UG level will be given preference.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO M. Phil. PROGRAMME

1. Eligibility: Subject to the conditions stipulated in the UGC Regulations and Ordinance of Nagaland University, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the M. Phil. Programme: i. Candidates for admission to the M.Phil. programme shall have a Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions. ii. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-abled and other categories of candidate as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (for an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures. 2. Additional weight-age during the Selection Process: i. Percentage of marks in Master Degree or equivalent (atleast50% weight-age). ii. Performance in the Admission test and/or interview. 3. Full Time Scholar: The M. Phil. candidate has to be a full-time scholar of the concerned department.

4. UGC Regulations/ Guidelines and Nagaland University Ordinance: It may be noted that the procedure for the admission and award of M. Phil. Degree shall be in accordance with the May 2016 UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for awards of M. Phil/Ph.D. Degree) Regulation, and the Ordinance of Nagaland University. Subsequent amendments in the University Ordinance/UGC guidelines, if any, shall be followed as and when such changes are made/ notified. 5. Reservation Policy Reservation in courses offered by Nagaland University shall be as per the laid down norms/rules of GoI and Nagaland University.

i. Degree shall be eligible to do research work leading to the Ph.D. Degree. A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-abled and other categories of candidate as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

iv. A candidate, whose M.Phil. Dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending, may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the same Institution.

v. Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

2. Additional weight-age during the Selection Process:

i. Persons with M. Phil. Degree from Nagaland University. ii. Candidates qualified in any of the National Eligibility Test (NET), recognized by the UGC. iii. Candidates with JRF. iv. Candidates securing an average ‘A’ grade of 60% and above in the course work of M. Phil Programme of Nagaland University. v. Subject to availability of seats, candidates belonging to the following categories and fulfilling the criteria stipulated under clause 1 above, may also be admitted on the recommendation of the Department: a. Regular employees of Nagaland University. b. Teachers of colleges affiliated to Nagaland University with an experience of at least Three (3) years of continuous service. c. Persons with at least 9 (nine) years of experience in Administration, Management and having specialized knowledge in the proposed field of research to the satisfaction of the department concerned. d. Persons who have completed at least one year of research in a University/Institution after his/her registration, provisional or otherwise, under the supervision of a teacher.

2 UGC Regulations/ Guidelines and Nagaland University Ordinance:

It may be noted that the procedure for the admission and award of Ph.D. Degree shall be in accordance with the May 2016 UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for awards of M. Phil/Ph. D Degree) Regulation, and the Ordinance of Nagaland University. Subsequent amendments in the University Ordinance/UGC guidelines, if any, shall be followed as and when such changes are made/ notified.

5. Reservation Policy

Reservation in courses offered by Nagaland University shall be as per the laid down norms/rules of GoI and Nagaland University.

ELIGIBILITY CRTERIA FOR ADMISSION TO PG DIPLOMA/PG CERTIFICATE/CERTIFICATE COURSES

1. PG Diploma in Mass Communication

Bachelor Degree in any stream/subject from any UGC recognized University having 45% marks in major subject or aggregate. 5% marks relaxation for SC/ST candidates. However, Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication /Visual Communication/Electronic Media from a recognized Indian or foreign university shall be given preference.

Short listing of candidates will be done through Written Test followed by Personal Interview, if required.

. 2. Certificate in Spoken English Minimum eligibility for admission shall be Higher Secondary.

3. PG Certificate in Spoken English & Writing Skills Minimum eligibility for admission shall be Bachelor Degree in any discipline.

4. One Year Diploma Course in Tenyidie Class 12 with knowledge of spoken Tenyidie.

5. Six Months Certificate in Tenyidie Class 12 with knowledge of spoken Tenyidie.

6. Three Months Diploma Course in Tenyidie for International Students Class 12 with English spoken skills

7. One Crash Course in Spoken Tenyidie No bar in educational qualification. However, candidates with some English- speaking skill are preferable.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Applicants can apply ONLY through Online Mode of application.

2. Online Application Fee Payment: i. All applicants must pay their application fees of Rs. 200/- through SBI I-Collect website using Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking etc., https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm A payment acknowledgment slip/receipt should be downloaded from the SBI I- Collect for reference purposes. Transaction charges are not part of the Fee. ii. Applicants are advised to make payment of the Application Fee before starting to fill up the application form and keep the SBI I-Collect Payment reference number ready during the process of filling up the online admission form. iii. The Fee deposited through Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking in the SBI I- Collect will normally reach the University account after 24 hrs. Hence, it is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the fee is deposited well in time. Nagaland University shall neither be responsible for any delay in receipt of the payment nor shall be responsible, if the payment is refused or declined by the Bank. Candidates are STRONGLY advised to submit the fee well before the last date. iv. All amount(s) paid by the Applicant, for application to the programme offered by ‘Nagaland University’ shall stand appropriated. v. If applying to more than one department/program, separate application forms need to be submitted as well as separate payments have to be made. The same payment receipt should not be used for applying to more than one department. If such cases are discovered, the application forms will be rejected without any further communication to the applicant.

3. Online Application i. Once the application fee payment process is over, applicants must go to http://admission.nagalanduniversity.ac.in to fill in the Online Application form. ii. 4. Online Application Form Submission i. Transportation Charges: Transportation (those availing University facility) Lumami - Rs. 600/ semester (Hosteller), Rs. 900/semester (Day scholar) and Kohima Campus Rs.700/per semester. Refund of Fees on Withdrawal of Admission: Student who desires to withdraw his/her name from the roll of the University and claim any refund of the fees shall be dealt with as per the University/ UGC/MHRD/AICTE/ICAR/NCTE Guidelines.

Hostel Fee does not include Mess Fee.

The Fee Structure is subject to change from time to time.

All the regular employees of Nagaland University pursuing M. Phil / Ph. D degrees will be exempted from the payment of all fees, other than the fees of admission/ Registration/ Exam/ Dissertation or Thesis Evaluation.

STUDENTS' AMENITIES

Hostel Accommodation Hostel accommodation is available on limited basis for both men and women. Application must be routed through the respective Head of Department and submit the same to the Dean Students' Welfare/Students Welfare in-charge to the respective campus. Allotment of seats shall be on merit.

Library The University Library, besides the libraries maintained in some P.G. Departments, contains about 35,318 volumes of books in different disciplines. It also subscribes 139 periodicals in English (both national & international).

Sports The University gives due emphasis on sports and other extra-curricular activities. There is a well-developed sports section headed by Deputy Director of Sports with other infrastructural supports for various activities, connected with games and sports. The University sports wing participates in intra-state and inter-state sports and games events.

Health Care The University has Health Centers which provide health-care facilities for all the students of the University communities in their respective campuses.

Internet facility All the departments, library and hostels are well connected with internet. Gymnasium Lumami has a separate gymnasium for both men and women.

Auditorium Lumami has a 900 seating capacity Auditorium.

Transport University plies buses from/to Mokokchung and Akuluto from/to HQ Lumami. Bus facility is also available from Kohima to Meriema.

Cell to Eliminate Sexual Harassment: Nagaland University is committed to create and maintain a community in which students, teachers and non-teaching staff can work together in an environment free of violence, harassment, exploitation, intimidation and stress. This includes all forms of gender violence, sexual harassment and discrimination on the basis of sex/gender or amongst the same sex members. The University is strongly in support of gender and opposes any form of gender discrimination and violence. The Cell is headed by Professor B. Kilangla Jamir as the Convener with sub-committee members from each Campus.

Equal Opportunity Cell: The University has Equal Opportunity Cell to facilitate the deprived groups for learning and creating space to the mainstream providing opportunities for them to be in the mainstream, at par with others. The Cell provides coaching for ST/SC/OBC (non-Creamy layer) and minorities to enhance employment opportunity.

SC/ST: The SC/ST Cell was established to supervise the implementation of the Reservation Policy of the Government of India. It assists in the conduct of various coaching schemes for SC/ST/OBC (non-Creamy layer) and minority community students.

Anti-Ragging: The University has Anti-Ragging Committee in all Campuses for curbing the menace of ragging in the University.

Grievance Redressal Cell: The University has appointed Nodal Officers for online Students Grievance Redressal Portal for curbing students' grievances.

Training and Placement Cell: Nagaland University has a 'Training and Placement Cell' headed by a Faculty as in-Charge in each of the four campuses and for which a Committee was constituted headed by a Senior Professor along with faculty-in-charge in all the campuses as members.

NET Coaching for SC/ST/OBC: The University gives NET coaching to the SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layer) categories for enhancement of knowledge to appear for NET or SET examination.

Students' Representative in University Academic Council: One Post-graduate student from Science and one from Humanities & Education and one from Research Scholars are selected on academic merit as per the ordinance of the University to represent in the Academic Council.

Gender Champion: Nagaland University has selected four teachers as Nodal Teachers (Campus-wise) to facilitate the activities in the respective campus of the University and fourteen students as Gender Champions to create an environment that fosters equal treatment.

NSS Cell: The University has National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell Students' Union: Students' Union Election is conducted every year for selection of Office bearers of the union.
