Feb. 24 to Mar. 3, 2019 Harmony on the Harmony 2.0 Cruise and sing with Tony De Rosa, Deke Sharon, & VOCTAVE Come join us for a week-long cruise on the Harmony of the Seas as we sing with two of the best a cappella coaches in the world. We sing for the whole ship! Don’t miss out! Reserve your spot now: CruisenSing.com • 855-627-8473 WELCOME TO I’m thrilled that you can join us for what I believe will be remembered as one of several milestone conventions in our history! Our inauspicious start began 80 years ago as an inward-facing group of men who gathered to sing for their own personal enjoyment. We grew over the next two decades but only began outreach efforts to impact lives other than our own in 1959, when we established Harmony Foundation. We continued to focus our charitable efforts externally by supporting therapy for autistic youth until the late 1990s, and only began our “modern” journey circa 2003 with Harmony Foundation supporting Society singing programs such as the program that has grown into the wildly successful Youth Chorus Festival, noted for facilitating truly intergenerational singing. Fast forward to 2017, when more than two years of member feedback and strategic planning efforts culminated in the announcement of our new vision, “Everyone in Harmony.” Since adopting the Everyone in Harmony vision, the Society Board and Harmony Hall staff have been working diligently to design and begin implementation of programs aligned to the vision.

Drown March 4, 1940 — Feb. 18, 2011 As I sit here with Dad, I felt inspired to write this when I saw Mike's note. Lessons from Dad Dad has never been afraid to ask anyone to help. It is one of the traits that has made him a very successful salesman all these years. Additionally, it has also made him a great barbershopper. I remember when I was 11 years old and just joined the Sugar Valley Singers in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. It was time for our annual show program to come out, and my Dad told me that I would need to ask a few businesses in town to help with our show program ads. At the time I didn't know it, but Dad was teaching me some- thing…."you never know unless you ask. The worst thing they can say is 'no'." Well I sold about five ads that year, and it was a heck of a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. And I did have a couple of guys tell me 'no,' and just like Dad said, it didn't really hurt at all. You see, the thing I learned from Dad that day was that with groups like our bar- bershop chorus, which are not-for-profit organizations (and like most charitable organizations) you need to have some brave individuals to help them run.

1 National Anthems The Star-Spangled Banner O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave? O Canada! O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee! 2 We are here to build Bridges to Harmony by bringing the Joy of Singing to Pittsburgh -- a celebration of music for everyone. We’ll see just how broad that joy can be in the wide- ranging kinds of performers and performances in our shows and contests. You’ll see it in our vastly expanded Harmony University classes, with more than 100 sessions covering the art, business, and fun of barbershop. Most importantly, you’ll see it every time four (or eight, or fifteen) people open their mouths to share that joy directly, heart to heart, ear to ear. We’re celebrating the music of Pittsburgh’s favorite son, Stephen Foster, this week, with the release of a new songbook and performances by your Fantasy Quartet and Director.
