Suddenly, at the Manse of Poundland, parish of Colmonell, on the 15th inst., the Rev. John West, minister of the Reformed Presbyterian congregation there. He had travelled full two miles from his own house to meet the funeral of Mr M'Geoch, and accompanied it until he arrived opposite his own house, where he left it, owing to the indisposition of Mrs West. He was then in his usual state of health, took dinner, and a little after found himself rather uneasy; he complained of thirst, had a glass of porter brought to him, and took a little of it, but still he became more uneasy; he then went to bed, but could find no ease; he rose, took his chair, and in a short time breathed his last without a struggle. So short was the time, that before the foremost of the people had returned from the churchyard - a distance of about two miles - this respected servant of the Lord was no more. The deceased, in various respects, was a remarkable woman; few females of her day and generation possessed equal personal attractions, combined with the greatest elasticity of mind and constitution. At Meikle Leight, Inch, on the 21st inst., in the 91st year of his age, Mr Peter Stroyan, senior. The deceased will be long remembered for the soundness of his faith, and earnestness of his piety, and the simplicity of his walk and conversation. He was greatly esteemed and loved as a patriarch of high Christian character and attainments, and has left behind his a savour of godliness, by which, though dead, he yet speaketh. DEATH OF A PATRIARCH.- Died lately, at Berehill, parish of Kirkmaiden, Gabriel M’Gaw, farmer there, in the 85th year of his age. He had rejoiced in the wife of his youth for the long period of 63 years, and had occupied Berehill farm for 61 years. He was a man of singular information in divine things, always bearing a walk and conversation becoming the gospel. He was constant in attendance at the bed of affliction and death, administering consolation by his counsel and prayers. He has left a widow, about his own age, and five children to mourn his loss.

As Mr Erskine died in 1752, the deceased was, in all probability, among the last to whom that distinguished minister dipensed the ordinanace of baptism. At Camphill, parish of Dalry, on the 9th ult., Jean eldest daughter of James Spiers, Esq., of Camphill. Her name had been booked with the session clerk for proclamation of marriage on the preceding Friday; she took ill of scarlet fever on Saturday; was proclaimed in church three times on Sunday; died on Monday evening; and was buried on Friday the 13th ult., - the day fixed for her marriage.

At Gatehouse, on the 6th instant, in the 89th year of her age, Mrs Ann Richardson, mother of the late Mr John Clinton, merchant, Borgue Kirk. We have to record the death of James Henry, Esq., of Auchenleck, in the parish of Rerwick, on Tuesday morning last week. He had attended Castle-Douglas market, and returned home in his wonted good health. A few hours afterwards, he was seized with sudden illness, and before medical aid could be obtained, he had breathed his last. He was highly respected, and is much regretted by his family, and a wide circle of friends. At his official residence, Castletown, Isle of Man, on the morning of Thursday last, Lieutenant General Governor Ready - after a long and painful illness.

At Aston, Muneroo, New South Wales, on the 17th February last, of inflammation, Mr David M'Keachie, surgeon, after a few days illness, aged 30 years. The deceased belonged to the parish of Leswalt. At Buenos Ayres, South America, on the 22d April last, suddenly, from the rupture of a blood vessel of the heart, James Robson Esq., timber merchant, eldest son of Mr John Robson, Palnackie. He was upwards of twenty years resident there; was highly esteemed as a kind hearted, generous friend, and a just man in dealings. His premature death is deeply regretted by relatives and friends. At Gatehouse, on the 15th instant, after a long illness, borne with exemplary patience and Christian resignation, Mr James Waugh, roadmaker, aged 55 years. At 17, New Suffolk Street, London, on the 14th inst., Sarah M'Lean, wife of David M'Lean, draper, and daughter of Hugh M'Creddie, late of the parish of Anwoth. Drowned, after two days sailing from Bombay, on the 1st March last, Mr Mathew Thomson of Largs, chief mate of the ship Strabane, of Glasgow. At Largie, near Campbelton, on the 1st instant, John Martin, at the patriarchal age of 104 years. He was a shepherd all his life, and had never been far removed from the place where he died. His hair, which in youth was black, became white, and within a few years of his death it was again becoming black. He has left about 85 descendants behind him, including children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mr John M'Cutcheon, professor of dancing, Parkcawes, parish of Dailly, died on the 7th inst., aged 84 years. At Gills Cottage, Coleraine, Ireland, on the 17th inst., Captain Dalrymple, late of the 71st Regiment, eldest son of the late James Dalrymple, Esq., of Orangefield aged 73 years. At 18, Roxburgh Street, Edinburgh, on Monday week, after a short illness Dr John Cowan, in the prime of life - deeply regretted by friends and acquaintances. Dr Cowan was a native of Dumfries. At Napton on the Hill, Warwickshire, on the 17th inst., aged 33, Mrs Mary Menzies, late of Penpont, : - surviving only five days the birth of three daughters, two of whom are dead. This lady was her husband's fellow - traveller for the three last years of his wanderings amongst the Indians of North America. During that time she kept her journal of their travels for 13,000 miles along the Indian frontiers, embracing between 3000 miles of north and south latitude.

At St Louis, M.O., U.S., about the beginning of last month, aged 8 months, William, third son and last surviving child of Mr William Maclure, formerly cattle-dealer in Derry, parish of Kirkcowan, Wigtownshire. At Wigan, Lancashire, on the 29th ultimo, Mr David Brown, grocer, aged 77 years. He was universally esteemed as an honest and upright man and a Christian. Craigencallie, in Minnygaff parish, Kircudbrightshire was his birth-place, and well did he love to talk about the wrestling Jacobs who lived in that parish and its neighbourhood in the days of his youth among whom were the late venerable James Reid, the Cameronian minister in that district for nearly fifty years; the late Robert Murray, shepherd in Kitterick, and his wife, Mary Cochrane, with their son, the late Dr. Alexander Murray; Samuel Brown, minister of Kirkmabreck; the late Professor Dr. Thomas Brown's father, and others. The deceased married his cousin, Nicholas Brown, of Airiland, in Kelton parish (Alexander Brown, her father and Margaret Mathieson, her mother, died at the Old Clachan farm in Girthon, still held by her two brothers), who died in 1836, aged 65 years. They brought up a large family of sons and daughters and grandchildren, some of whom are still living in Wigan. According to the deceased's wish, he was buried in the Scotch fashion, in the same grave with his wife and some of his family at the Scotch Free Kirk, Wigan. He was a Baptist by religious profession; and from principle he rejoiced in the progress and prosperity of the Free Church of Scotland, but considered the saints as his beloved brethren and sisters in Christ, amongst whatever denomination of professed Christianity such characters are to be found. He occupied the situation of gardener under the present family for nearly half a century, and during that time maintained a high character for faithfulness and integrity, and has left behind him a name which will not soon be forgotten by those who were privileged with his acquaintance.
