Information Bulletin December 2020 Heavy Vehicles Livestock Loading Mass Exemption Areas or routes of operation in South Australia The South Australia Class 3 Articulated Motor Vehicle and B-Double Livestock Loading Mass Exemption Notice 2019, published by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), is an exemption from mass limits for vehicles specifically built for carrying livestock. The notice provides for travel on roads which are included in the eligible vehicle’s approved network, except for route restrictions as outlined below. Route Restrictions The following route restrictions apply to both articulated motor vehicles and B-Doubles: 1. Travel is not permitted in the Adelaide Metropolitan Area, except on the eligible vehicle’s state maintained higher mass limit routes. 2. Operators must comply with all structural load restrictions posted on RAVnet (http://maps.sa.gov.au/ravnet/) and any signposted restrictions on the road network. 3. Travel is not permitted on specific roads and routes where the road or structures are not suitable for the higher masses. Details of prohibited routes or structures include: a. the section of: i. Flinders Highway between Coulta and the intersection with Coffin Bay Road. ii. Main North Road (Horrocks Highway) between Wilmington and Laura via Melrose and Murray Town. iii. Germein Gorge Road between Murray Town and the Augusta Highway near Port Germein via Bangor. iv. Goyder Highway between Crystal Brook and Gulnare via Narridy. v. Main North Road (Horrocks Highway) between Gulnare and Clare. vi. RM Williams Way between Spalding and Clare. vii. Goyder Highway between Spalding and the Barrier Highway. viii. Farrell Flat Road between Clare and Hanson via Farrell Flat. ix. Ludgvan Street Burra, between Landore and Young Streets. Note: The Burra by-pass route (via Copperhouse Street) should be used to avoid travel in Burra. x. Balaklava Road between Halbury and Auburn xi. Sturt Highway between Yamba and Renmark. xii. Marrabel Road, between Marrabel and Kapunda. xiii. Greenock Road between Greenock and the intersection of Thiele Highway. xiv. Greenock Road, including Sir Condor Laucke Way, between Greenock and Nuriootpa. xv. Nairne to Mount Pleasant Road between Harrogate and the intersection of the Birdwood to Palmer Road. xvi. Birdwood and Mount Pleasant (including Olivedale Street, Torrens Valley Road, and Melrose Street. xvii. Princes Highway and Old Princes Highway between Callington and the intersection of Mount Barker Road / Adelaide Road in Mount Barker. xviii. Southern Ports Highway, between Beachport and the Clay Wells Road intersection. xix. Naracoorte Road between the Riddoch Highway and Rowney Road. b. the section of road between: i. Nuriootpa and Sedan via Railway Terrace (Nuriootpa), Angaston Road, Murray Terrace (Angaston), North St (Angaston) and Stott Highway via Keyneton. ii. Gawler and Nuriootpa via Barossa Valley Way, Lyndoch and Murray Street (Tanunda). iii. Kingston SE and Robe, including Southern Ports Highway. iv. Mount Torrens and Mount Crawford via Birdwood including Onkaparinga Valley Road, William Street, Shannon Street and Warren Road. c. All River Murray Ferries and Sea Ferries, including to Kangaroo Island. .
