Biography He studied basics at public school, and high school at Kennedy High School and Ariel Hebrew Uruguayan High School. Some of his activities were those of lifeguards, a synagogue singer (jazzan) and a doctor at home practicing doctor. He studied medicine and graduated from his hometown. After graduating, he served as a doctor as well as his parents. He was an otolaryngologist before fully devoting himself to music. He is a father of three. The first, Pablo, is the result of his marriage to singer Anu Laan, who records his recordings under the pseudonym Rita Calypso. Together with her current partner Leonor Watling, actress and singer of the band Marlango, she had two children; Luca, who was born in early 2009, and Leah were born in July 2011. Artistic beginning In 1991 he won one of the awards of the First National Song Contest Unreleased, conducted radio Alpha FM Montevideo with the organization of journalist Monica Willengton and musician Fernando De Moraes, along with other young artists also awarded: Carlos Vidal and La Fragua, Maria Rosa Castriton, Gaston Rodriguez and Tocata y Fugue, with whom he shared the cassette label. The following year, the Ayush/Touaba label edited its first duration, titled Light That Can Steal. It was the opening act for Caetano Veloso at the Salt Theatre in Montevideo, and then Joaquin Sabina at the Verano Theatre in Montevideo, who determined that in 1995 he went to Spain to play in three concerts by the Spanish singer-songwriter and Madrid is his residence. His works are performed by such singers as Ana Belen, Mercedes Sosa, Maria Rita, Victor Manuel, Pablo Milanes, Miguel Rios, Ketam, Nene Cherry, Shakira, Ana Torroha, David Broza, Rosario Flores, Giovantotti, Paulinho Mosca, Vitor Ramil, Silvina Moreno, She also sang with Magali Sol. Controversy at the Oscars, the Oscar-winning organization decided that the Uruguayan singer-songwriter should not perform his song until he was nominated in the best unreleased song category for the film for his track Motorcycle Diaries, because Drexler was not a figure well-known enough for it. Despite his disagreement with the decision, he agreed with the measures taken and clarified that the unfortunate incident had been organized by the organizers of the event, not by the Academy. During the Academy Awards, the song was performed by actor Antonio Banderas, accompanied by guitarist Carlos Santana. A few days earlier, Drexler had shown his impatience with this fact, so when he approached the award instead of giving a corresponding thank-you speech he performed a snippet of his a cappella song, somehow getting his revenge. Today, the composition is a time of interrogation, euphoria and depression. Once you open the song, you have no choice but to finish it. If the feeling is not coitus interruptus, terrifying, does not allow you to sleep. And when you solve this... I don't want to continue the analogy, but yes: it's like a very good, intense sense of pleasantness, tremendous satisfaction and contact with the divine. Interview with Jorge Drexler, Maria Eugenia Ludue'a, in the magazine Self Made in Buenos Aires, No 47. In July 2005, he took part in the Etnosur Ethnic Music Festival, where he shared the stage with Andalusian Javier Ruibal and Brazilian Leo Minax. His album 12 seconds of darkness was recorded in Madrid, with Juan Campodico in production, and with the collaboration of Leonor Watling and Kevin Johansen in choirs, and a duet with Maria Rita on the song Soledad. This album was released almost worldwide between September 2006 and February 2007. 12 seconds of darkness, it includes ten original tracks and two versions: High s Dry by British band Radiohead, and Disneylandia Brazilians in addition to a single titled Transoce'nica. In 2006, Drexler also lent his image to a music video for Macaco's song Madre Tierra. During his tour of Mexico City, DF, he agreed to a license with Mexican director Fernando Sarignana to use the theme of The Age Sky in his new film, which will be called Intimate Enemies and which will star Damian Bichir. In turn, in September 2007, he agreed to take part in the Spanish film What Looks Like an Accident by the Spanish director Gerardo Herrero, for which he composed a song called What Appears. In April 2008, he released Cara B, a double album of 32 songs from his repertoire, recorded live and accompanied by guitar and street sounds (crashing train, plane take-off, sounding band -Banda de M'sica del Prat-, percussion of two young men from Barcelona,...) recorded during their tour of Catalonia. This album, however, is not in search of compilation or great hits, and contains mostly songs from the first rare albums or songs in its repertoire and was defined by Drexler himself as an attempt to make visible an unvisible part of the project, in this case an 8-disc project. Drexler also collaborated for Shakira She Wolf's album with the songs Loba (the Spanish version of the single that gives the album its name), Lo Hecho Este Hecho (Spanish version of Did It Again), A's Luz (Spanish version of Why Wait) and Gitana (Spanish version of Gypsy). In March 2010, his new album Love the Plot was released, which was recorded for four days with musicians playing live and at the same time and a favorite audience among Drexler Myspace fans.
