Dartford's Health Walks Dartford’s Health Walks Healthy Living Walk - Mondays 10.00am Darenth Country Park - Tuesdays 10.30am Greenhithe - Wednesdays 10.30am Tree Community Centre - Thursdays 11:15am Central Park - Thursdays 11.30am weekly! Swanscombe - Fridays 10.00am Swanscombe - Sundays 9.00am • Health walks are free and led by trained volunteer walk leaders • Short social walks that last around an hour • No need to book - just turn up • Any age and ability welcome • Great for people getting little or no exercise, recovering or suffering from an illness or lacking in confidence • Dress for the weather including comfortable footwear Funded by For more details including starting points please contact the One You Kent team call 01322 343067 or email [email protected] Healthy Living Walk - Mondays, 10:00am Various starting and finishing points - please contact the Scheme Co-ordinator for more information. This weekly walk takes place at a variety of open and green spaces across the borough and also further afield, exploring what North West Kent has to offer. The walks typically last 1.5 -2 hours and are a great progression after attending one of the walks below from the Dartford Health Walk programme. Darenth Country Park Walk - Tuesdays, 10.30am Starting and finishing outside the entrance of The Darent Valley Hospital , Dartford. After a short stroll from the meeting point at the hospital you enter Darenth Country Park. This walk takes in the delights of the park including the Chapel Orchard and typically lasts 45 minutes - 1 hour. Greenhithe Walk - Wednesdays, 10.30am Restarts 7th July 2021. Starting and finishing outside the entrance area of St Mary’s Church Greenhithe. Enjoyable walk around the Greenhithe area including Ingress Park and views of the River Thames. Afterwards enjoy a refreshment back at the café. Typically last around an hour. The majority of this walk is on paved pathways and is on flat terrain. It is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Tree Community Centre - Thursdays, 11.15am Starting and finishing at the Tree Community Centre Cedar Road Dartford. Meeting inside the Tree Community Centre this is a local walk lasting 30 to 45mins on flat ground. Central Park Walk - Thursdays, 11.30am Starting and finishing at the War Memorial outside Central Park, Dartford Town Centre. This walk around Central Park takes in sights such as the formal Gardens, the River Darent and the nearby Brooklands Lakes. It typically lasts 30 - 45 minutes. Swanscombe Walk - Fridays, 10.00am Starting and finishing outside the Old Fire Station Cafe in Church Road, Swanscombe. This weekly walk around the historical Swanscombe is 30 - 45 minutes in duration. Swanscombe Walk - Sundays, 9.00am Restarts 27th June 2021. Sundays, 9am. Starting and finishing at Castle Hill Community Centre, Cherry Orchard, Ebbsfleet Vallery, Swanscombe, DA10 1AD. A 30-40 minute walk around the new development at Castle Hill. The majority of the walk is on paved pathways and is suitable for pushchairs. The walk is run by ‘Active Church’. Walkers are welcome to stay for a light, healthy breakfast and a short interactive presentation on spiritual health from a Christian perspective. Grade 1 walk Suitable for people who have not walked much before, are looking to be more active or returning from injury or illness. They are up to 30 minutes on flat ground or gentle slopes with mainly firm surfaces and no steps or stiles. Grade 2 walk Suitable for people who are looking to increase their activity levels. They are between 30-60 minutes and may include some moderate slopes, steps, uneven surfaces and possibly stiles. Grade 3 walk For people looking for more challenging walks and increasing their level of physical activity. They are generally 45-90 minutes and may include steeper slopes, steps, uneven surfaces and stiles. Progression walks For people who have undertaken Walking for Health Grade 3 walks and are now looking to take their next steps. These walks are more than 90 minutes in duration and are likely to include slopes, steps, stiles and uneven surfaces. Or they may be a bit different, such as Nordic walks. Yet, for all that, the recognition of the earliest palaeolithic implements, as human workmanship is due to Englishmen's acumen; and although the study was revived in Erance, it was consolidated into a science by the investigation of Englishmen once agaim In our own district, that is, about ten miles round Dartford, quite as much attention has been paid to the matter as in any spot in the world, and with a greater success than anywhere else in determin- ing certain controverted points; such as the reality of human agency in the formation of implements, and the larger grasp of the subject consequent on the minute search which has traced them continuously through a greater range in elevation and consequently of age.

KHS policy statement and plan This will be the document approved by Environment Highways and Waste policy Overview Committee 2. Winter service procedure During normal working hours the team leader will deal with all winter service matters, including managing local action in snow/ice emergencies. The Duty Officer (DO) will assume control out of hours. Team Leader (TL) will also ensure that adequate support is provided to DO out of hours in emergency situations and that a suitable handover briefing takes place at the start and end of the normal working day. See Appendix 1 for personnel roles in winter service. 2.1 The Duty Officer will commence duty at 12.00 hours on Friday until 08.00 the following Friday and will be responsible for all the actions below. Assistance will be given but the ultimate responsibility will be with the DO. 2.2 Immediately after 1400 hours daily the weather forecast/information will be available on email/telephone on 01622-221077. (Update forecasts may be available at 21.30 hours each day, or when issued.) 2.3 Instructing and recording actions –The DO will record action taken on the Winter Service action sheet (attached as Appendix 2). Email to Ringway; this will instruct them of the action that is needed. Provide as much detail as possible on the form.     Archaeologia Cantiana Vol. 79 1964 DARENTH WOOD; ITS EARTHWORKS AND ANTIQUITIES* By JOHN E. L. CAIGBB, DAEBNTH WOOD is situated on the south, side of the A2 road (Watling Street) to Rochester, some 2 miles east of Dartford. The geological formations vary considerably throughout the wood. The centre portion, which attains an elevation of 280 ft. A.O.D. is on Plateau Gravel. This gravel formation is surrounded in turn by Woolwich Beds, with Thanet Sand and Chalk beds lying to the north and south ends of the wood. Although it seems certain that this land formed part of the manorial holdings from very early times the earliest reference it has been possible to trace which associates the ownership of the wood with the Manor of Darenth is a fifteenth century document, setting out articles of agree- ment between the Prior of St. Andrew, Rochester, and John Crepehege, their tenant of the property.1 Archbishop Lanfranc held the Manor of Darenth when the Domes- day survey was taken; he kept the manor for himself and his successors and it continued in the See of Canterbury until A.D. 1195.2 In this year Archbishop Hubert Walter exchanged it with the Prior of St. Andrew, Rochester for the Manor of Lambeth,3 and it continued in their keeping until the dissolution. King Edward I in his 23rd year (1294) granted the Prior and Convent free warren in the desmesne of Darenth,4 and Darenth Wood must have formed part of this grant. A short time after the dissolution of the monastery, the manor and its lands was confirmed to the newly-constituted Dean and Chapter of Rochester and from 1538 onward documents show that the property was let out by them on lease to a succession of tenants.
