The University Grants commission has recognised this college under the section of 2(f) and 12(B) of its act. The College has acquired a good reputation in the field of education of the District. The NAAC has accredited this college with grade B++. The Department of Geography of this college started its journey in the session of 1900-91 with only pass course. The honours course and master degree course in geography was introduced since 1993-1994 and 2018-2019 academic session respectively. Now the department has been emerged as one of the most well equipped and well placed department in the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University. Within twenty nine years of journey, the department has managed to process all kinds of conventional and modern instruments and high quality departmental library. So far several batches of students have been passed out, many of them are well placed at schools, Colleges, other academic and research fields in various places of our country.

    Short Biography: Dr. Nazrul Islam has been serving as Associate Professor of Geography since 2021 at Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India. Before the present job as Associate Professor, he had been serving as Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography, Sitalkuchi College, Cooch Behar. He completed his B.Sc degree in Geography Honours with Geology from Asutosh College of University of Calcutta in the year 1998 and did his Masters (M. Sc) also from the same university in the year 2000. He was awarded National Scholarship for his academic excellence at the undergraduate level. He did his Ph. D. from the University of North Bengal in 2018. He has participated in many international and national level seminars/conference(s) and has published research articles in reputed journals and chapters in the edited volume. Dr. Islam has published three edited books. He had participated in various training on RS and GIS from IIRS, Dehradun, and DST, Kolkata.
