Jennings opts out of tech ed BY STEVEN COBURN-GRIFFIS DHI Media Staff Writer [email protected] FORT JENNINGS — Joining other local districts in rejecting an unfunded mandate from the state, members of the Fort Jennings Board opted out of junior high school career-technical education for the 2015-16 school year. Accepting a recommendation from Superintendent Nick Langhals, the board instead adopted a plan to develop a program in conjunction with Vantage Career Center, intended for implementation in the 2016-17 school year. “We already do Industrial Arts,” Lanhals reported. “We do some Healthy Lifestyles classes. So, by working with them throughout the year, we’ll be able to align our programs.” Sophomore Ohio Graduation Test results were also shared with the board. Langhals reported that the results — with passing rates accomplished by 94 percent of students in Writing, 90 percent in Reading, 88 percent in Math, 79 percent in Social Studies and 82 per- cent in Science — were typical.
