  • Wyoming State Government Directory
Pictured left to right: State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, State Auditor Cynthia Cloud, Governor Matt Mead, Secretary of State Ed Murray and State Treasurer Mark Gordon As someone with a lifelong interest in old maps, especially maps of Wyoming and the American West, I am delighted to share a historic map of Wyoming on the cover of this year’s Directory. This map represents a point in time, at the beginning of Wyoming’s statehood, when the interior boundaries that shape Wyoming as we know it today were still a work in progress. I love examining old maps because they often tell the story of our human experience; each map being a snapshot of the knowledge or perceptions that we possessed at the time. Maps can also demonstrate advances in our industry and technology, trace the ebb and flow of our communities, and even reflect some of our social values. No chapter in Wyoming’s history has been faceless. All of our growth and progress has been through the combined efforts of Wyoming’s citizens and leaders, working together to address the needs of the moment. Wyoming’s past explorers drew new maps as their knowledge increased or as circumstances changed, and left behind progressively more accurate guides for us to follow. Now, our current State Elected Officials and our citizens are venturing forward to meet Wyoming’s future – armed with the knowledge of our past and present – and committed to leaving an even better “map” for future generations. 2016-2017 Wyoming State Government Directory Front Cover: 1888 Rand McNally Map of Wyoming Inside Cover Written By: Honorable Ed Murray Jessica Cockrell Cover’s Graphic Design By: Gabriel Kaufhold Secretary of State’s Office The directory is available via the internet from: Website: sos.wyo.gov Wyoming Secretary of State Phone (307) 777-7378 Email: [email protected] Table of Contents How to Use This Directory ..............................................................................................

  • Liberty Brief
Liberty Brief No. 012 (Revised) April 2013 Key Liberty Votes 2013 by Charles Curley Introduction Welcome to the 2013 Key Liberty Votes. The purpose of Key Liberty Votes is to capture a snapshot of a Wyoming legislative session by compiling votes on specific bills relating to issues of individual freedom and responsibility. In the tables contained in this brief, the right hand column is the legislator's total pro-liberty votes. Six is the highest possible count. The average tally is at the bottom of this column. This year we find the Senate slightly more favorable to liberty on these key bills than the House. This is a change from the last two years. This year, for the first time, we provide the bill summary ("AN ACT...") from the bill itself. We remind legislators and their constituents that a call for the ayes and the nays, i.e., a roll call vote, is a call for transparency and accountability. This vote summary is not intended as a replacement for the Wyoming Liberty Index (http://www.wyominglibertyindex.info/). The methodologies are different; the Index allows for finer granulation of the impact of a bill on liberty. Further, this summary may note votes on amendments or procedural votes, whereas the Index is silent on these. All 2013 bill information is available at http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2013/billindex/BillCrossRef.aspx?type=ALL Charles Curley lives in Thermopolis, trading on his 30 years of experience as a software engineer. He has been involved in politics for many years, including the successful campaign to repeal FDR's gold prohibition.

As lawmakers in Washington and Wyoming continued to grapple with the implications of the federal reforms, the Wyoming Hospital Association successfully protected our state’s hospitals from measures that could have thwarted re- forms that are still in their infancy. At the same time, the WHA prevented the enactment of measures that would have complicated the operation and governance in our hospitals. From that perspective, the 61st Wyoming Legislature was a very successful session.
