MAD FEELING THE NEW TASTE OF THE WORLD
LIMITED EDITIONS BOTTLED FUTURE VISION AND MISSION MAD WINE Mad Wine is dedicated to express the unique terroir of Mad village. The winery is located in the hearth of the Tokaj region in the village of Mad. This village has the largest total vineyard area in our region. These vineyards were classi ied in the early 1700s. The company owns 20 hectares of vineyard in eleven different plots most of them are locat ed in irst class areas. Most of our plantations are located in Mad, but we own vineyards in Tallya, Ratka and Tarcal as well. Our chosen lands were highly classi ied in 1737 – the irst vineyard classi ication of the world-, and nowadays are considered to be the ones with the highest potential in the region.
Our regional wines are produced from grapes sourced from the highest potential vineyards of the Tokaji wine region. Dry by Tokaj is an unoaked, lively white wine which is produced primary from Furmint. This indigenous grape variety is able to express perfectly the volcanic minerality of the terroir of Mád. The Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály varieties contribute to the complex aromatic pro ile. Refreshing acidity is driving the citrusy palate, with a touch of volcanic minerality in the inish. Sweet by Tokaj is our regional level sweet wine. With this refreshing, vivid and intensely fruity late harvest wine we express the tasting characterestics of the historic region.
With producing MAD Furmint, Hárslevelű and Late harvest our goal is to produce wines that express the local typical minerality and it is easy drinking as well. Due to its volume it can present the unique character of Mad to a larger group of consumers. We buy in grapes from local smallholders. More and more growers join our integration; they reduce crops, and produce high quality fruit. The quantity of the wines can be improved further through this collaboration keeping the same outstanding quality. These wines are fermented in temperature controlled steel tanks after a very gentle pressing to preserve all the fruitiness. This way we make refreshing, easy drinking wines. We close Mád wines with Vinolok glass stoppers.
Our single vineyard releases express the unique character of our historically classi ied vineyards. The most important part of the character of our wines is the terroir, the soil. The winemaking techniques should not make a lasting impact on our wines; stylistically it is the minerality that should be expressed by our grape varietals. Our Single vineyard selections produced from the outstanding slopes of the Szent Tamás, Percze, Nyulászó, Kővágó, U rágya and Dongó vineyards. Apart from the dry selections we produce a late harvest sweet wines, sweet Szamorodni, and well structured Aszú wine which ones are produced only in exceptional vintages.
The most important development of the modern Tokaj is the appearance of world class dry wines. On the peak of this category Mad One can be found. In this wine innovation meets heritage in such a perfection that cannot be overlooked by any serious wine collector of the world. Mad One is our inest Furmint selection of the most outstanding historic crus of Mád village with extremely long ageing potential. Layered, deep, complex and concentrated. Almost perfectly balanced vintage. Harvest started early, in September. Dry and warm autumn 2011 resulted in less Botrytis, the year was ideal for dry selections
One of the driest and warmest years lately. There were hardly any Botrytis this year, at the end 2012 of the ripening season the weather was really dry, therefore the acidity levels of the wines have dropped before harvest. It resulted in less full bodied but more elegant wines.
One of the best vintages with good weather conditions throughout the ripening season. Ideal 2013 harvest for both dry and Botrytised grapes.
2014 required special skills in the vineyards due to the larger amount of rain during the 2014 growing season. It was crucial to choose the time of the harvest. We focussed on berry selection within bunches already in the vineyards during harvest therefore less but good quality.
One of the best vintages recently for dry wines. High temperature and lack of rain especially on the southern part of the region. Therefore there were hardly any Botrytis development. One of 2015 the earliest harvest in recent years. The harvest was ideal for dry wines.
In 2016, we experienced higher than average precipitation and cooler weather during the 2016 ripening period. Botrytis started developing early, in August, therefore we took special care for bunch selection 2016 for dry wines. Dry wines show lighter alcohol, fresh acidity and elegance.
After the very warm summer, Botrytis arrived early, therefore we applied careful bunch 2017 selection for our dry wines. The residual sugar is slightly lower than in the previous vintages so the wines became even more elegant.
Extremely hot and dry vintage. Early budding, hot summer and low amount of precipitation resulted early harvest. The healthy, perfectly ripe bunches made well-balanced dry wines. 2018 There were hardly any Botrytis therefor we produced our sweet wines from shrivelled berries. The aromas of these wines are driven by tropical fruits and honey.
The average temperature of the 2019 year was one of the highest ever recorded in the region. The hectic precipitation resulted dif iculties for viticulture however we successfully harvested high quality fruit for our dry wines. October was cooler and ine Botrytis developed. For the late 2019 harvest wines we were able to harvest grapes rich in sugar and acidity. Despite the extreme climatic conditions the wines of this vintage show rich and well-balanced style with great structure. Extremely refreshing, fruity and vivid summer drink with lots of bubbles. Ideal for garden parties, picnins, sport events and concerts. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. We mix the wine with iltered cleared water and saturate CO₂ into the blend to ensure ine long lasting bubbles.
