About the Directory General This section describes how the information about each member listed in the roster is gathered and some of the abbreviations used. The primary source for the member information is the USPS national database. The information in the roster listing section is directly downloaded from the USPS national database. All updates are made to the national database. As with any database, the information in the National database may be incorrect or outdated. We have made a concerted effort through e- mail, phone and personal contact to ensure all information is published correctly. If errors remain, we sincerely apologize. To correct any errors or omission, or to provide updates, please contact the Squadron Secretary at [email protected] . The Secretary will update the national database as appropriate; however, he cannot change ranks, grades or courses completed. Please contact National directly for such corrections. Contact numbers can be found in The Ensign. Rank Abbreviations Despite the military-sounding titles, USPS officers’ titles actually reflect our heritage as a yacht club. In the USPS, a member’s rank reflects the highest office in which they have served during their membership. If they are no longer in that office, the word “Past” is appended to the rank; e.g., a “Past Commander” has at some prior time served as a squadron commander. Titles are normally abbreviated and used in all written communications. The most common abbreviations are: Squadron Cdr Commander Lt/C Lieutenant Commander 1st/Lt First Lieutenant Flg/Lt Flag Lieutenant Lt Lieutenant P/C Past Commander P/Lt/C Past Lieutenant Commander District D/C District Commander D/Lt/C District Lieutenant Commander P/D/C Past District Commander P/D/Lt/C Past District Lieutenant Commander National C/C Chief Commander V/C Vice Commander R/C Rear Commander Stf/C Staff Commander P/C/C Past Chief Commander P/V/C Past Vice Commander P/R/C Past Rear Commander P/Stf/C Past Staff Commander Course Abbreviations Boating education is a primary objective of the USPS. We offer twelve courses, classified into two groups: Advanced Grades and Electives. Advanced Grades Advanced Grade courses teach seamanship and navigation skills. The courses are designed to be taken sequentially. The abbreviation of the highest Advanced Grade completed is often appended to a member’s name; e.g. Lt/C John Doe, AP. The Advanced Grade abbreviations are as follows: S Seamanship P Piloting AP Advanced Piloting JN Junior Navigation N Navigator Electives Elective courses address specific topics and may be taken in any order. The Elective course abbreviations are as follows: CP Cruise Planning EM Engine Maintenance ME Marine Electronics W Weather IQ/ID Instructor Qualification/Development S Sail OT Operations Training Senior Navigator A member who has successfully completed all twelve Advanced Grade and Elective courses is designated a “Senior Navigator” and is said to hold a “Full Certificate.” SN Senior Navigator General Membership Meetings: Meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 1900 hours (social and dinner at 1800). • March 27, 2014 at Brunswick Corporation, We Are Happy to Report
March 27, 2014 DEAR FELLOW SHAREHOLDERS: At Brunswick Corporation, we are happy to report our fourth consecutive year of strong improvements in earnings during 2013. Operating earnings, pretax earnings and diluted earnings per common share, all on an as adjusted basis, increased by 12 percent, 27 percent, and 31 percent, respectively, for the year. Net sales increased by 5 percent to $3,887.5 million. Our 2013 gross margin of 26.1 percent reflected an increase of 70 basis points from the prior year and represented the highest annual level achieved since 2000. Operating expenses increased by 5 percent, due to higher investment spending on growth-related strategic initiatives. Reductions in net interest expense, resulting from our successful debt reduction strategy, and a lower effective tax rate (excluding the impact of restructuring charges, losses on early extinguishment of debt, reversal of deferred tax valuation allowance reserves and special tax items) also contributed to our higher diluted earnings per common share, as adjusted. We believe these outstanding results are the product of strong execution of our business strategy by our 16,000 global employees. In addition to producing excellent 2013 results, we also continued to create a solid platform for continued improvement in future financial results. Our accomplishments were many and evident across all segments of our business at Brunswick. At Mercury Marine, new products and improved quality contributed to share gains in most major markets and product categories. We made outstanding progress in our outboard engine business. Mercury’s award-winning 150hp FourStroke engine has been extraordinarily successful and has set the standard for new engine systems under development.
