Temple New to our teaching staff this school year: Emanu-El Ruth Egherman Pangilinan – our and PJ incredible 6th grade teacher. Born in Library Gary, IN, she moved to Champaign, IL Pancake when she was 6 years old. A graduate of Event the University of Iowa, Ruth relocated to the Bay Area over 20 years ago. Currently, Ruth is the General Manager of Broadway San Jose. She manages and operates all of the local functions required for presenting a national Broadway tour in the South Bay. Basically, she handles everything related to the tour, from the time they’ve been booked into the venue until they leave town. What brought her to Temple Emanu-El? “I was looking to Gavin and his hamentashen connect with the Jewish community when my eldest child entered school, ended up coming to a Friday night service about 10 years ago and felt an immediate connection and warmth that was hard to resist.” Teaching on Sunday mornings was inevitable. Although her own kids attended class on Wednesdays, she felt the need to connect with the kids and families in the Religious School on Sundays. A position opened and she took it! Benjamin Berlow – AKA “The Energizer Bunny!” Originally from Palmerton, PA, Benji Berlow moved to San Jose in the summer of 2008 to work as the Program Director for Hillel of Silicon Valley. Soon Sara and Selene after moving to the area, his girlfriend Lisa enjoying springtime Sobel started to work for Temple Emanu- weather El. When word got out that Benji taught Israeli dancing, Temple Emanu-El approached him about teaching both for the Religious School and for the Adult Education Program. Benji was eager and thrilled to share his love for Israeli dancing with the Temple community. Light and Lucas Benji hopes that his passion for Israeli dancing is passed making cookies along to all of his students and they continue to dance at Temple and throughout their lives.
