Head Women’s Basketball Coaches also had the opportunity to nominate other key members from their teams. The team (listed below) is made up of seven seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore. Of the 10 athletes listed, eight are from Kansas. In addition to Rust, Smith, and Lewis, Amber Ramsey (Ottawa) and Sarah Munds (Friends) were selected unanimously. Southwestern leads the way with three athletes listed.

KCAC Coaches and Media Poll: Following the Kansas Collegiate Athletic College Women’s Basketball Media Day, votes were tabulated for both the KCAC Coaches’ and Media Preseason Polls. Southwestern College takes the top spot in each poll, with eight first place votes in the Coaches’ Poll and 12 in the Media Poll.

In the Media Poll, Southwestern College edges Tabor College by 14 points. The Bluejays grabbed the remaining two first place votes. Friends University finished third in media voting, just two points higher than Sterling College.

The Coaches poll gives an eight point edge to Southwestern over Tabor for first place. Eight points then separate the Bluejays from the who sit in third. Tabor and Kansas Wesleyan each received a first place vote. Friends finished fourth in voting, eight points behind KWU.

During the 2012 – 2013 season Friends (23-9, 16-2) and Southwestern (23-8, 15-3) competed in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament. After winning the KCAC Regular Season, Friends fell to Roosevelt (Ill.), 57-52, in the first round. The 12 wins were the most since the 2006-07 season for the Lady Braves. Under Tate’s tute- lage Paige Gibson earned First Team All-KCAC honors, Shannon Carlin was named Honorable Mention All-KCAC, and Amber Ramsey was the third straight Lady Brave to be named to the KCAC Champions of Character Team. The Lady Braves finished the season ranked 28th in NAIA Division II in turnover margin (2.5), 32nd in steals per agme (10.4), 33rd in blocks per game (3.1), 39th in three point field goals made per game (5.9), 43rd in total blocks (89), 46th in scoring defense per game (62.4), 48th in three point field goals made (166), 48th in assist/turnover ratio (0.734), and 49th in assists per game (13.1).
