KEITH FAHEY SCORES WINNER AGAINST ARMENIA

Congratulations to Keith Fahey (Birmingham City), who, after coming on as a substitute, scored after 75 minutes to give the Republic of Ireland a 1-0 win over Armenia in their opening Euro 2012 qualifying group match in Yerevan on 3rd September. This was Keith’s fourth international appearance, having been introduced as a substitute in Ireland’s home friendlies against Paraguay and Algeria in May and Argentina in August. Surprisingly perhaps, Keith was an unused substitute when Ireland beat Andorra 3-1 in their second qualifier at the Aviva Stadium, four days after the Armenia game. Keith joined Arsenal from Cherry Orchard in July 1998 and later moved to Aston Villa while still a teenager. He never really settled at either club and returned home, eventually joining St Patrick’s Athletic. He was transferred from St Pats to Birmingham City in January 2009 and helped his new Evening Herald club to gain promotion to the at the end of that season. Keith is relishing his second chance in the professional game in England and we hope he continues to make his mark for Birmingham and Ireland.
