12 Premier Win SFAI Norton Cup Congratulations to the players and managers of the 12 Premier team, who having lost to Templeogue Utd in last season’s national cup final, achieved success this time round when beating St Kevins 1-0 in the SFAI Norton Cup final at Jackson Park Kilternan on 14th May. Andy O’Reilly, who scored the winner in the semi-final against Malahide Utd, did it again in the final when he netted in stoppage time. There was national cup final disappointment for the 11 Premier and 14 Premier sides, however, both losing 2-0 to St Kevins and St Joseph’s respectively. Well done also to the 15 Premier team, who won the Conway Cup in a penalty shoot- out after a 1-1 draw with home Farm and the 7A and 9A1 sides, who won their leagues. And congratulations also to the Senior Sunday team, who reached the final of the FAI Intermediate Cup and won the league title, ensuring a return to the top division in the intermediate grade.

And not for the first time. His late, late goal saw the SFAI U12 Norton Cup travel joyously home to Ballyfermot. It was Andy who also got the winner against Malahide United in the semi-final which went to extra-time. And on this occasion, with the tie looking set for extra-time, he came off the bench to pop in the golden goal deep in injury time from inside the six yard box at the Carrickmines end. It was the perfect example of being in the right place at the right time, a real striker’s instinct. “It was some substitution” quipped George Johnston, who runs the side with Don O’Reilly, Paul Clegg and physio Jamie Ahearn in possession l6 l l l l Daniel O’Brien. “I thought we deserved it. We were the better side. It’s a tremendous victory, especially after losing here last year in the Menton Seery final,” added George, who was drenched with water by the celebrating Cherries.

Trevor Clarke hooks the ball forward It was the first defeat of the season for Kevin’s. And it came at the end of a long week. Last Saturday they beat the Farm after extra-time to lift the DDSL Tony Ryan Cup. And on Tuesday night, thay twice came from behind to overcome last year’s U11 national champs, Templeogue United, in an epic semi-final on Shanowen Road.
