A Letter from the Pastor

January 11, 2015 Dear Friends,

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord . All of the readings on this Sunday speak to the glory of the Holy — “the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” As stewards of the faith, we must strive to understand and appreciate the meaning and significance of that Trinity.

Recall that Isaiah was writing some six centuries before the birth of Christ; yet that prophet anticipates and predicts much of what we are to learn and realize in the . We are challenged to reflect upon suffering and Christ and salvation within this beautiful poem. Although we understand that suffering is part of life for all of us, it can never match the trials undergone by our Lord and Savior. We, too, are called to be servants of the Lord, and although much less is asked of us than was of Jesus, if we hope to accomplish even in some small way our calling, lives of stewardship provide the best means.

The second reading from John also speaks to the glory of the Trinity. It begins with emphasizing that “Everyone who believes Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God,” and ends by emphasizing that “The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth.” He tells us that serving God is not burdensome; indeed, it is in serving Him that we know we love Him and each other.

The Gospel from Mark supports the reference to serving God and being open to the work of the Trinity. It is this call to service that we find in our own summons to lives of stewardship. St. reminds us that we, too, have received the Holy Spirit through Baptism. Stewardship is our response to that charge, that invitation to discipleship.

We are blessed to have so many people here at Saint Joseph who know they are called to be good servants and faithful stewards of the many blessings God has bestowed on them. I am very thankful for how you share your time, talent and treasure and very appreciative for the generous collection we received to continue the work of Christ here in Downingtown! Let us continue to work and pray that God will be well pleased by all we say and do!

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

Monsignor McLoone Pastor

A Prayer for the World Meeting of Families

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to .

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Jesus, Mary and JosephJoseph, pray for us!

There will be a different theme each month leading up to the World Meeting of Families (September 2015) based on the 10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis “Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive .”

January’s theme is The Meaning of Human Sexuality The tangible, earthly, corporeal world is more than inert matter or modeling clay for the human will. Creation is sacred. It has sacramental meaning. It reflects God’s glory. That includes our bodies. Our sexuality has the power to procreate, and shares in the dignity of being created in the image of God. We need to live accordingly. Parish News

Due to insurance liabilities, we ask that participants be 18 years or older. Also, all participants will be asked to sign a short video release form authorizing us to use footage of you in the final production of the video.
