The Johnnies are 7-6 all-time on October 6: 1923 at Macalester (L, 6-25); 1928 vs. Macalester (W, 12-6); 1939 at Saint Mary’s (W, 28-12); 1950 at Saint Mary’s (W, 34-0); 1951 at Minnesota-Duluth (L, 6-18); 1956 at Gustavus Adolphus (L, 6-13); 1962 vs. Augsburg (W, 36-20); 1973 at St. Thomas (L, 10-17); 1979 at Gustavus Adolphus (L, 17-45); 1984 at St. Olaf (L, 0-31); 1990 vs. Augsburg (W, 59-0); 2001 at Macalester (W, 56-7); and 2007 vs. St. Olaf (W, 30-29).

1928 vs. Macalester (W, 12-6): The Johnnies opened conference play with a 12-6 victory over Macalester in Collegeville. Ralph Koll led SJU to the win, scoring the only two touchdowns for the Johnnies. Koll’s fi rst score came on a tremendous 62-yard run where he eluded the entire Mac defense for the fi rst score of the game. Macalester countered it with a minute left before halftime to tie the score at 6-6. The Johnnies defense came up big in the second half when “Hub“ Laterall recovered a Macalester fumble, which turned the tide in favor of the Johnnies. Koll proceeded to lead the offense down the fi eld, connecting for a 30-yard pass down to the fi ve-yard line, where he took it over from on the next play.

1962 vs. Augsburg (W, 36-20): The Johnnies dominated the Auggies in the fi rst half in front of over 3,500 fans on Homecoming Day. The Johnnies jumped out to a 30-6 fi rst-half lead. Dick Chalmers had an interception that led to the Johnnies’ fi rst score of the day. SJU rushed to three touchdowns and added another through the air, a 29-yard touchdown strike from Craig Muyres to Ken Roering. Muyres also completed three two-point conversions. Bernie Beckman busted for a 53-yard touchdown run in the second half to end the scoring for the Johnnies.

1990 vs. Augsburg (W, 59-0): SJU gained a 15-0 lead only four minutes into the game. Denis McDonough, who is now the Deputy National Security Advisor under President Obama, returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. Tim Lacy blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety and Jay Conzemius had a nine-yard touchdown catch from Pat Mayew leading to the 15-0 lead.
