Jazmine Sullivan & Kaytranada last week, GoldLink is back today to announce his new project. At What Cost is due March 24th via Squaaash Club/RCA Records, and is available for pre-order now. To coincide with the announcement, GoldLink is sharing one more track from the project, "Pray Everyday (Survivor's Guilt)." The track is produced by Sevn Thomas (who co-wrote and produced "Work" by Rihanna), Syk Sense (Khalid, Bryson Tiller), and Axl Folie (Kendrick Lamar, Drake). Yesterday, Pitchfork reviewed "Meditation" writing, "'Meditation' is a bouncy, dancefloor-ready track with plenty of energy to go around." The album announcement comes ahead of a run of spring shows that will find GoldLink touring alongside Little Dragon, as well as shows with Denzel Curry and Kaytranada, in addition to his performances at Coachella in April. The South Florida rapper carves out his own lane within the genre known as SoundCloud rap, displaying considerable versatility as he channels the pain and confusion of youth.     Like musical theatre and scripted television, jazz and hip-hop are uniquely, undeniably North American art forms. Though the latter genre was born out of funk and disco in the late 1970s, many of its landmark artists embody the ethos of jazz: loose, visceral, instinctive. Some hip-hop acts--A Tribe Called Quest, or more recently Kendrick Lamar--have successfully repurposed jazz, but the older genre has seldom made successful inroads into new generations of rap fans. And that's what makes BADBADNOTGOOD, the four-piece, Toronto-bred jazz outfit that has melded jazz and instrumental hip-hop into something elusive, something altogether their own, so unique. On their latest full-length effort, IV (due out via Innovative Leisure on July 8th), BBNG decide to expand their universe, which was already one of the most compelling, labyrinthine worlds in pop music today. Saxophonist Leland Whitty, a long-time collaborator, joins Chester Hansen, Matthew Tavares, and Alexander Sowinski on a full-time basis; for the first time, guest vocalists are welcomed into the fold. Some artists find collaboration stressful and cluttering, but BBNG simply seems freer to chase down creative rabbit holes than ever before. The effect is apparent immediately. See "Lavender," a collaboration with the Montreal-based producer Kaytranada, which pairs delicate, skittering production with a punishing low end. Or take the virtuosic closer, which underscores superb performances by Whitty and Tavares with a grand swell of strings. On "Hyssop of Love," upstart Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins moves languidly, stretching out taunts ("I heard your plug was drrrrry") before he snaps upright ("Never needed no dollars to prove worth").

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

The decision, made by second-year Superintendent Barb Dill-Varga, came as a shock to CHS faculty. Lopez has requested reassignment within the school district. Though Lopez says he could not provide staff with an ex- planation for why his position at the high school was terminated, Dill-Varga cites the reason for Lopez’s removal from his position as a need for a “fresh perspective” at CHS, which she hopes to take in a “new direction.” “The District is grateful to Mr. Lopez for the hard work he has done to help CHS attain many achievements over the past 10 years,” Dill-Varga wrote in a media release sent out Jan. 25.
