Doncaster Outsiders Walking Club 2, Detail Harlaxton – Barrowby Date January 26th Leaders Viv (A) Len (B) Start Grid Reference (A) 882 367 (B) 869 321 Morning This is a gentle walk through quaint Lincolnshire villages and beautiful rolling countryside. Both groups start at Harlaxton. The route is fairly flat, ending with a steady climb to Barrowby. Group A From Harlaxton, head north and round Denton Reservoir, then south to Denton. Go west to Harston and then north to Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir. Join Grantham Canal. And follow it east, then track north-east to Barrowby. 10.5 miles Group B From Harlaxton head west to Denton, past almshouses and church. Go north and round Denton Reservoir then east following Grantham Canal. Cross Harlaxton Bridge and follow Grantham Canal westwards. Track north-west to Barrowby. 7 miles Afternoon No afternoon walk Winteringham – Winteringham – South Ferriby Date February 23rd Leaders John (A) Viv (B) Start Grid Reference 925 217 Morning Description Group A Start walk at Winteringham heading west towards Alkborough and then south to Walcot. Turn west towards the River Trent and pick up the path heading north to Julian’s Bower. Walk through Alkborough village and join the New Cole Way heading east to Whitton passing the confluence of the Trent, Ouse and Humber rivers. Group B Similar circuit to Group A, but shorter and more relaxed. 8 miles. Afternoon Afternoon walk starts with a circuit of Winteringham and then back to the New Cole Way heading further east to South Ferriby. Monyash – Bakewell – Ashford-in-the-water Date March 22nd Leaders Michelle (A) Ash (B) Start Grid Reference 151 663 Morning A walk in the beautiful Peak District. We follow the River Lathkill through a limestone gorge, ending in Bakewell, the historic market town famous for its food. The route is uneven and rocky in places and generally downhill. Group A and B start at Monyash. Group A At Monyash join the Limestone Way, heading generally eastwards. Descend north into Lathkill Dale. Follow River Lathkill east to Conksbury Bridge. Cross over bridge and continue south-east to Alport. Turn north-east, crossing Haddon Fields to Haddon Hall. Follow River Wye north-east into Bakewell and pub stop. 10 miles Group B From Monyash follow Ash, down into Lathkill Dale. Still following Ash, continue by River Lathkill east towards Conksbury Bridge. Head north to Bakewell. About 7 miles. Afternoon Follow River Wye to Ashford-in-the-water. Take Ebor Way turning north- east to High Snittenham then along Centenary Way to Mowthorpe and onto Terrington. Pick up the Ebor Way again through the woods to the Worsley Arms Hotel in Hovingham. Group B From pub on Main Street, head east towards parish church then follow Ebor Way all the way to Terrington. From Terrington, follow same route as Group A. Afternoon From Hovingham up to Stonegrave and an early saxon church c750. Leyburn - Carperby - Carperby Date May 17th Leaders Phil (A) Bev (B) Start Grid Reference 112 905 Morning From the market place, head west onto the Leyburn Shawl. Take the right fork near Lady Algitha’s Cave. Follow path left past medieval settlement into Gill Field Wood and through to Preston- Under-Scar. Drop down to crossroads and railway line. Taking Wood End Lane into Redmire for a coffee break. Take footpath NW. passing below Castle Bolton dropping down road to Thoresby Lane. Follow lane and footpath to Hollins House and Aysgarth Lower Falls. Take footpath through Freeholders Wood to Carperby and lunch at The Wheatsheaf, (James Herriot’s homeymoon pub). Afternoon Afternoon walk is a circular taking in Aysgarth village and Aysgarth Upper Falls where the fight between Robin Hood (Kevin Costner) and Little John took place in the film “Robin Hood, Prince Of Thieves.” Copley Village - Ripponden - Rishworth Date June 21st Leaders Viv (A) Start Grid Reference 084 224 Morning Group A and Group B start at the conservation village of Copley. Highlights are woodland, moorland, valleys and ancient villages. There is a degree of up and down, thus the walk is shorter in distance. Group A From Copley cross bridge south. Turn west through North Dean Woods to Norland Moor. Drop down to Spring Rock Inn. Turn south-west to Bowers Mill and then to Black Brook. Doncaster Outsiders Walking Club brook upstream to Barkisland Mill. Take Howroyd Lane west, then turn north to Sandyfoot Clough. Continue to Calderdale Way, then descend to Ripponden and pub. About 9 miles Group B Group B follow similar but shorter route, taking a mid-morning break at Bowers Mill Cafe. About 6.5 miles Afternoon Follow River Ryburn south to Rishworth, then continue to Booth Wood Inn. Low Bradfield – Low Bradfield – High Bradfield. Date July 19th Leaders Kev (A) Cath (B) Start Grid Reference SK 26462 91865 Morning Low & High Bradfield to the west of Sheffield, taking in three reservoirs, Agden, Dale Dyke and Strines. From Low Bradfield, follow the Sheffield Country Walk along Bradfield Dale to the Strines Reservior. The B group will then bear right at Brogging following the path to Hallfield and Thompson House and back to The Plough at Low Bradfield. The A group will continue on to Strines Bridge and through the Bole Edge Plantation to Hallfield, then following the same route back to Low Bradfield as the B group. A Group walk 9.3miles B Group walk 7.2miles Afternoon From Low Bradfield we circumnavigate Agden Reservoir. Heading to Windy bank, Agden House we will then head for Bailey Hill via Smallfield and visit the Flood Grave at High Bradfield Church. Finishing at the Old Horn’s Inn, High Bradfield. Doncaster Outsiders Walking Club Blidworth – Papplewick - Hucknall Date August 16th Leaders Ash (A) Colette (B) Start Grid Reference SK578- 558 Morning Setting out from Blidworth Village we head north-west on the Robin Hood Way. Passing Friar Tucks Well, we head through Thieves Wood. Taking a turn to head directly south towards our lunch stop at Newstead Abbey the ancestral home of Gordon “Lord” Byron. Time will be allowed to explore this hidden gem. Cafe and toilet stop available in the grounds. Look out for Byron’s Oak, the legendary tree planted when the great man inherited the abbey. From here we push on south through Papplewick and the multi award winning village of Linby. We push on further south for walks end at the town of Hucknall. Pub and cafes will await. No afternoon walk but a leg stretching amble to visit Byron’s grave at Magdalene church will be available. Afternoon No afternoon walk.     Grantham Ramblers 2019 Walk Programme This programme is for subscription paying members of the Ramblers Association. Non-members are invited to try 3 walks before deciding on membership. Grantham Ramblers walk every other Sunday and Thursday on the dates shown with some additional monthly Wednesday mornings. All walks are graded moderate or leisurely. Please travel direct to the starting location leaving sufficient time to change into the necessary footwear. Please share cars if possible and people without transport should contact the leader. Park appropriately and consider other road users and local people. Stops for refreshments occur at the discretion of the leader and where suitable sites are available. Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather conditions and terrain. Dogs should be under control so as not to cause a nuisance to other walkers, general public and livestock. Dog faeces should be disposed of hygienically. All members are responsible for their own personal safety. We recommend that walkers carry a card showing details of any medication, allergies etc and a contact telephone number. The walk leader should be informed of any issues.     Former workings in Jurassic ironstone near Grantham Geoffrey Warrington Abstract: The Lower Jurassic Marlstone Rock Formation was formerly worked for ironstone near Denton (SE Lincolnshire), and the Middle Jurassic Northampton Sand Formation near Hungerton and Colsterworth (SE Lincolnshire) and Saltby (NE Leicestershire), southwest and south of Grantham. Two ammonites from the Northampton Sand Formation at Hungerton are illustrated. Four ironstone quarries near Grantham (Fig. 1) were below the Whitby Mudstone Formation (formerly Upper visited during an excursion from the British Association Lias). The ironstone, a slightly calcareous sideritic ore, meeting in Nottingham in 1966. One, at Denton Park in was greenish-black when unweathered, and whitish or SE Lincolnshire, was worked for the Marlstone Rock grey-brown when weathered. Cross-bedding indicated Formation (Upper Pliensbachian – Toarcian; formerly an easterly transport direction, similar to that recorded the Marlstone Rock Bed). The others, at Colsterworth and Hungerton in SE Lincolnshire and Saltby in NE Leicestershire, were worked for the Northampton Sand Formation (Aalenian; formerly the Northampton Sand Ironstone Formation). The lithostratigraphic nomenclature follows Cox et al. (1999) and Carney et al. (2004), with equivalents used in older literature given in parenthesis at the first mention. The Denton and Hungerton sites are now infilled, but exposures remained at Colsterworth and Saltby in 2008. Photographs taken in 1966 record a once- important extractive industry in its last years.     RIVER QUALITY SURVEY NATIONAL RIVERS AUTHORITY NORTHUMBRIA & YORKSHIRE REGION GQA ASSESSMENT 1994 PART 1 REA CH CLASSIFICA TION FRESHWATER RIVERS AND CANALS VERSION 1: AUGUST 1995 GQA ASSESSMENT 1994 \ NORTHUMBRIA & YORKSHIRE REGION To allow the development of a National method of evaluating water quality, the rivers in all the NRA regions of England and Wales have been divided into reaches, which are numbered using a coding system based on the hydrological reference for each river basin. Each classified reach then has a chemistry sample point assigned to it and these sample points are regularly monitored for Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Dissolved oxygen (DO) and Total Ammonia. The summary statistics calculated from the results of this sampling are sent to a National Centre where the GQA Grades are calculated. A National report is produced and each region can then produce more detailed reports on the quality of their own rivers. For Northumbria and Yorkshire Region, this Regional Report has been divided into two parts. PARTI: REACH CLASSIFICATION This report contains a listing of the river reaches within the region, with their start and finish grid reference, approximate length, and the 1990 and 1994 GQA class for each reach. The reference code of the chemistry sample point used to classify the reach is also included. A sample point may classify several reaches if there are no major discharges or tributaries dividing those reaches. The sample point used to classify a reach may change and the classification is therefore calculated using the summary statistics for each sample point that has been used over the past three years.

    Lincolnshire Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment Lincolnshire Health and Wellbeing Board March 2015 Final version 31 March 2015 Page 27 Foreword Our pharmacies provide people in Lincolnshire with vital supportive health services in ways which are accessible and timely. With over 19.4 million prescribed items being dispensed in Lincolnshire's pharmacies every year, the public is provided with easy access to the supply of medicines and appliances that they need as a vital part of the local healthcare system Communicating health messages to people who are sick, as well as reassurance, advice and guidance to people who are well, is another key strength of the work that pharmacies deliver, and one which we need to make the most of, and build on. We also need to ensure that pharmacies are able to play a stronger role in out-of- hospital care, the management of long-term conditions and signposting residents to useful health and wellbeing, social care and voluntary sector services, in partnership with other health professionals. I therefore welcome this Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, which considers the need for pharmaceutical services, describes the current services available to the county, and makes recommendations for the future provision of pharmaceutical services. I trust that NHS England and others will find this assessment informative and useful in their commissioning of pharmaceutical services.     YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LIMITED NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR DROUGHT PERMITS River Don Catchment TAKE NOTICE that due to the threat of a serious water shortage in the South Yorkshire area caused by an exceptional shortage of rain, YORKSHIRE WATER SERVICES LIMITED (company number 02366682) whose registered office is at Western House, Halifax Road, Bradford, BD6 2SZ is applying to the Environment Agency under section 79A of the Water Resources Act 1991 for drought permits in the River Don catchment. The drought permits are intended to apply until 31 March 2019 inclusive and propose to reduce the compensation releases from Scout Dyke Reservoir, Underbank Reservoir, Damflask Reservoir and Rivelin Reservoir, and to reduce the maintained flow at Dunford Bridge. Scout Dyke Reservoir (grid reference SE 23 04) Yorkshire Water releases water from Scout Dyke Reservoir under conditions defined by the Ingbirchworth Reservoir abstraction licence (2/27/05/012). The terms of the licence state Yorkshire Water must release flow from Scout Dyke Reservoir to compensate the downstream receiving watercourses, Scout Dike and the River Don. Under the licence conditions, Yorkshire Water must continuously discharge not less than 4.00 megalitres per day when the reservoir level is above the control line defined in the licence, or 2.70 megalitres per day when the reservoir level is below the control line. The drought permit application for Scout Dyke Reservoir is to reduce the compensation release required when the reservoir is at or below 25% of its capacity to 2.7 megalitres per day then after 2 weeks to reduce further to 1.35 megalitres per day.

    The River Basin Districts Typology, Standards and Groundwater threshold values (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Directions 2009 The Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers, with the agreement of the Secretary of State to the extent that there is any effect in England or those parts of Wales that are within the catchment areas of the rivers Dee, Wye and Severn, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 40(2) of the Environment Act 1995(a) and now vested in them(b), and having consulted the Environment Agency, hereby give the following Directions to the Environment Agency for the implementation of Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy(c): Citation and commencement and extent 1.—(1) These Directions may be cited as the River Basin Districts Typology, Standards and Groundwater threshold values (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Direction 2009 and shall come into force on 22nd December 2009.
