With this sentiment in mind, at the Goldsworth Park Angling Also, despite it being some way off, if you are new to fishing or Club, we have been busying ourselves on the lake and our other site, considering taking up the sport, this coming August we will be holding Brookwood Ponds. Through the latter part of February and early in a number of angling teaching days designed for beginners of all ages March, we were busy at Brookwood - trimming branches, litter picking over seven. Last year we ran a very successful program, this year we and preparing parts of the banks in readiness for the platform building intend it to be much bigger and better and all totally FREE of charge. which will take place through the coming months. Saturday March 11 having a spring clean round Goldsworth Park Lake, litter picking, trimming here and there, and generally making the site and scene a better place for us all to enjoy. We would have continued the next day but the weather was against us. As the year progresses, we will be holding more work party days but for now we leave well alone, so as not to disturb our wildlife through the breeding period. Whilst on the subject of breeding, here is an update on our swans, kingfishers, grebes etc. Throughout February and March, our adult pair of swans have been occupying much of their time trying to shoo- off their remaining two offspring from the lake but they are proving stubborn. By the time you read this, they may have got the message and taken flight in search of a new home and independence, leaving mum and dad to nest in peace and start life’s cycle again. Over the last month or so, a pair of kingfishers have been seen daily close to the nest bank in the wildlife area; so are we going to get lucky this season? Let’s hope so. Our Great Crested Grebes, after weeks of courtship dancing, are now well underway with the nesting process. Frogs and toads have laid their spawn but numbers this year seen TEA UP – Roger and his volunteers take a well-earned break noticeably low. Sadly, over recent years, amphibian numbers have
