Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized. -

An unknown, starving band named Thin Lizzy (which consisted of Bell, Downey & Lynott) were offered a lump sum of money to record some Deep Purple songs. (The album contains also a few non-DP tracks.) They did - with the help from two Irish guys. The album came out in early 1973. It wasn't a success. In February, Thin Lizzy had a top ten hit with a single of their own. Read more about it here. The CD is compiled from at least 3 different performances and while I found the sound to be adequate to mediocre, the quality of their material does seem to shine through. While I wouldn’t put the band in my own personal Top 10 of 1970’s rockers, they are pretty good. I think it is a shame I wasn’t musically aware in the 70’s because I probably would have liked the band. They’ve got a lively and energetic sound tied to that particular era and it does keep the ears engaged, even during the first half of the disc where the quality of the recording isn’t even as good as some bootlegs I’ve listened to over the years. The audio quality is the biggest problem I had with the entire disc. I think if you are going to reissue this type of album, you really need to make the sound more Official Site presentable than what a typical bootlegger could accomplish. You want to check out tracks like “Detroit Girls”, “Any Way That You Want It”, and “Cherry Baby” in particular, but surprisingly at least to me, each song is pretty good. Search Amazon: If you like the 70’s rock era, you probably know of the band. You’ll definitely like this release. -

During his Blackmoore career, Blackmore established the heavy Blackmoore band RainbowBlackmoore which fused baroque music influences Blackmoore elements of hard rock. The family moved to HestonMiddlesexwhen Blackmore was two. He was 11 when he was given his first guitar by his father on certain conditions, including learning how to play properly, so he Blackmoore classical guitar lessons for Blackmoore year. In an interview with Sounds magazine inBlackmore said that he started the guitar because he wanted to be Blackmoore Tommy Steelewho used to just jump around and play. Blackmore loathed school and hated his teachers. While at school, he participated in sports including Blackmoore javelin. Blackmore left school at age 15 and started work as an apprentice radio mechanic at nearby Heathrow Airport. He took electric guitar lessons from session Blackmoore Big Jim Sullivan. In he began to Blackmoore as a session player for Joe Meek 's music productions, and performed in several bands. He was initially a member of the instrumental band The Outlawswho played in both Blackmoore recordings and live concerts. Blackmore joined a band-to-be called Roundabout in late after receiving an invitation from Chris Curtis. Curtis originated the concept of the band, but would be forced out before the band fully formed. After the lineup for Roundabout was complete in BlackmooreBlackmore is credited with suggesting the new name Deep Purpleas it was his grandmother's favourite song. -

Gründer und Mastermind der Band ist kein Geringerer als der deutsche Ausnahme-Drummer Bodo Schopf, der über viele Jahre fester Bestandteil der legendären Prog-Rock Band ELOY war und zudem für Größen wie Michael Schenker Group, Eric Burdon, Udo Lindenberg und Jack Bruce trommelte – nicht zu vergessen sein Engagement bei den kultigen Glam- Rockern The Sweet. Bodo weißt mehrere Chartplazierungen in Japan, USA, Deutschland, England, Spanien und Italien vor und erhielt Auszeichnungen in Gold und Platin. Den Sänger, David Readman (Pink Cream 69, Voodoo Circle, Almanac und Tank), lernte Bodo Schopf auf einer Tournee 2012 kennen. Er spielte dem Engländer einige seiner frisch komponierten Tracks vor, und Readman war auf Anhieb derart begeistert, dass er die Songs unbedingt einsingen wollte. Jedoch kurz danach, wanderten David nach Holland und Bodo nach Sardinien aus, so dass die beiden erst 2014 beginnen konnten, an den Songs zu arbeiten. Nach den ersten Aufnahmen waren sich David und Bodo einig, dies als Band weiterzuführen, dies war die Geburtsstunde von „Pendulum of Fortune“. Mit Bassist Franky R. holte sich Schopf einen guten, alten Bekannten an Bord, mit dem er bei der Michael Schenker Group zusammen gespielt hatte und der unter anderem auch schon für und mit solch großartigen Künstlern und Bands wie Ronnie James Dio, Kingdom Come und Vanden Plas gearbeitet hat. Bei der Suche nach einem Sologitarristen, stieß Bodo im Internet auf den unglaublichen Gitarristen Vladimir Shevyakov, ein Studio- und Livemusiker aus Moskau, er studierte Klassische Gitarre und spielte mit bekannten Künstlern aus Russland. Bodo schickte Vladimir 2 Songs übers Internet, dieser war total Begeistert und machte innerhalb einer Stunde seine Zusage als Sologitarrist bei Pendulum of Fortune. -

Helloween – Sascha G. interviewt Sascha G. Martin Häusler Viele Fans „anspruchsvoller“ Musik, die Mitte der 1970er geboren sind, dürften in ihrer Jugend ihre ersten Erfahrungen mit Dreizehn-Minuten-Songs, virtuosen Performances und episch aufgebauten Kompositionen voller thematischer Wechsel und Entwicklungen mit den beiden „Keeper Of The Seven Keys“-Alben von Helloween gemacht haben. Metal-Alben, die weit mehr boten, als der Metal der späten Achtziger für gewöhnlich zu bieten hatte und konsequenterweise auch außerhalb des Spartenpublikums viele Fans gewannen – ähnlich wie fast zeitgleich Die Toten Hosen im Punkrock. Wo „die Hosen“ allerdings zum Unmut der Altfans beständig diesen Anspruch weiterverfolgten, verloren Helloween das Mainstream-Publikum bei Line-up-Wechseln und nach dem experimentellen (aber großartigen!) „Chameleon“-Album. Die folgende Rückkehr ins Metal-Genre hielt die Band am Leben, aber eine ganze Reihe Nachwuchsmetaller, die ihrerseits hörbar von Helloween beeinflusst waren, zog langsam an den Innovatoren vorbei. Doch Helloween haben sich in ihrer seit 2005 beständigen Besetzung mit großartigen Alben stetig ihren Platz zurückerkämpft, und als 2016 mit Kai Hansen und Michael Kiske die beiden Ex-Sänger der Band wieder zum festen Line-up stießen, fanden sich Helloween plötzlich genau da, wo sie 1989 gewesen waren: auf der Höhe einer Erfolgswelle. Nun erscheint das erste gemeinsame Album der siebenköpfigen Schlüsselmeister-Truppe – und Gitarrist Sascha Gerstner hat sich die Zeit genommen, Prog-Betreuer Sascha G. We are very proud to have you on Greek Rebels, we believe that you are actually one of the 'hot' names out there in the European hard rock scene nowadays, so thank you very much for your time. We also have recently reviewed your new project, under the name Nordic Union, which is a really cool album. What is the reception so far, from the media, the fans? Are you satisfied with it? I would say, the reception has been fantastic, its phenomenal to be honest. The reviews are great, it's even getting airplay on the radio, it's getting on the charts, even the mainstream medias in Sweden are picking it up and writing about it. I never ever experienced that they write about something like this. Yes, I just saw that you posted that you are on nu. 4 or nu. 5 on the Swedish hard rock charts today, which is really good. You never had any prior success on the charts with your other bands or projects? Yes, with Eclipse and with W.E.T. we actually went to nu.1, a couple of years ago. If it wasn't, well I mean, that almost the same day Dream Theater released their album, just one week earlier Megadeth and Avantasia the same day, there are so many good bands and big names. If we would have released it a month later, maybe the competition would not have been so big, maybe we could have landed on nu. 1 Yes, so I wanted to ask you, you have collaborated for Nordic Union with a very big singer, Ronnie Atkins. -

En effet, les amateurs de musique live auront le choix entre le festival Léz Arts Scéniques à Sélestat qui pour l’occasion fêtera ses 10 ans, avec une affiche à tomber par terre, le concert de Jeff Scott Soto, grand chanteur et véritable bête de scène, dans le cadre intimiste de la Galery à Pratteln, pendant que le Casino de Bâle proposera les légendes du rock sudiste, Point Blank, show qui en plus est gratuit. Enfin, c’est Bon Jovi se produira au Stadion Letzigrund à Zurich. Jamais l’offre n’aura été aussi grande, alors faites votre choix et éclatez vous ! Ce feu d’artifice de concert ne doit pas occulter le fait, que le monde musical a été touché récemment par plusieurs disparitions auxquelles Passion Rock souhaitait rendre hommage : Calvin Russel (1948 - 03 avril 2011), bluesman texan et véritable rebelle, Scott Colombus (1956 - 04 avril 2011) batteur de Manowar pendant de nombreuses années, Matt Laporte (1970 – 20 avril 2011), guitariste survolté du Jon Oliva’s Pain, Dag Stokke (1967 – 27 avril 2011), clavier de TNT, liste à laquelle il convient malheureusement de rajouter, Patrick Roy (1957 - 03 mai 2011), le député à la veste rouge et maire de Denain qui n’a eu de cesse de défendre le métal, musique qu’il adorait et qu’il souhaitait voir reconnaitre à sa juste valeur dans l’hexagone. R.I.P. Enfin, dans un registre moindre, on ne pourra que déplorer le départ KK Downing, guitariste de Judas Priest, qui quitte le navire alors que le groupe entame sa tournée d’adieu, au même titre que le chanteur norvégien Roy Khan a décidé d’abandonner Kamelot, alors que Bon Jovi annonçait récemment que son compère et guitariste Richie Sambora ne prendrait pas part à la tournée mondiale, suite à des problèmes de dépendance à l’alcool. -

Quite Cream 69 vocalist David Readman, Sinner/Primal Fear the opposite really as it drags that evocative sound kicking bassist Mat Sinner, keyboard player Jimmy Kresic, and and screaming into the 21st Century – Rainbow meets drummer Mel Gaynor (who has played with the likes of Time Requiem anyone?! Brian May and Gary Moore amongst others). -

Käyn läpi syntetisaattorisoundien suunnitteluprosessia siitä näkökulmasta, miten yhtyeelle saadaan heavymusiikin perinteitä kunnioittavat soundit, jotka kuitenkin omaavat selkeän oman luonteensa. Työni pääteemana on yksittäisten soundien suunnittelu heijastaen niitä rooleihin, joita toivon niiden kappaleessa täyttävän. Opinnäytetyössä käydään läpi myös omalle työskentelylleni merkittävä valikoitu historiikki syntetisaattorien käytöstä raskaassa musiikissa. Työ sisältää lisäksi peruskäsitteistön liittyen syntetisaattorisoundien tekemiseen. Työni loppuosassa pohdiskelen omien soundivalintojeni onnistumista käyden läpi oivalluksia, joita sain työn tekemisen aikana. Näihin oivalluksiin kuuluu esimerkiksi pohdiskelua syntetisaattoreiden roolista heavymusiikissa, sekä havaintoja mahdollisista virheistä mitä tällaisen työn tekemisessä voi tehdä. Keskeinen havaintoni mahdollisimman hyvän syntetisaattorisoundin tekemisestä tämän työn perusteella on tunnistaa soundin rooli
