Captained by Vanuatu star Andrew Mansale, with the support of Vice-Captain Chris Amini, the team consists of six debutants to contest the seven round competition. With the usual two on e-day games and three two-day games fixtured, T20 has also made its debut at the Championships in 2010. Th e EAP was extremely competitive in all matches with a number of stellar performances by individuals, including a century by Assad Va la and a 5 wicket haul from Loa Nou. Sustaining losses in the opening two T20 matches, the team’s tournament highlight to date is its historic third round defeat of South Australia. The 68-run margin is the largest win posted by an EAP team since their participation in th e ACCC from 2004. Chris Amini and Assad Vala both posted half-centuries in the EAP’s canter to a total of 189, whilst Andrew M ansale and Loa Noa sustained the bowling attack, taking three wickets each. Unfortunately the momentum of the win could not be ca rried through to the following encounter with New South Wales. The EAP went down by eight wickets, with the highlight of the pe rformance being a sixth wicket partnership of 60 between Assad Vala and Jeremiah Nigani. Ro und five marked the start of the two-day fixture. The EAP first faced Western Australia and went down fighting, posting a ten run lo ss with a total of 303. The batting display included a number of strong partnerships across the order, the highest of 59 runs for the fif th wicket. The following encounter with the ladder leaders, the Northern Territory (NT), in round six also went down to the wire. NT es caped with a three wicket victory following the posting of a century by Assad Vala and a gallant 76 by Vani Vagi Morea. In the final 2-day fixture, EAP performed superbly to come away with a 12 run victory over Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Batting fir st on a good batting strip, EAP were in early trouble at 3 for 24, with Fijian opening pair Baba and Rika both dismissed, and star nu mber 3 Vani Vagi Morea also out. Captain Mansale steadied the ship with a patient 30, while the immensely talented PNG gun Assad Va la continued to bat with confidence to smash a brilliant 95. EAP were eventually dismissed for 170, a disappointing total but one that co uld be defended with quality bowling. W ickets fell steadily throughout the ACT innings, reduced to 8 for 106 early on Day 2. With the ACT edging closer to the required total an d PNG pair Loa Nou and Willie Gavera bowling superbly, the game was tense. ACT Captain Nicol was dismissed for 82, before the fin al wicket was taken by Gavera with a spectacular catch down the leg side by stand-in wicket-keeper Vani Vagi Morea. EA P Player of the Series – Assadollah Vala (PNG) (* Vala was also selected in the Team of the Championships) Newsflash – December 2009 EAP represented in more ways than one at the ICC U19 World Cup With play set to get underway on 15 January 2010 for the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand, Cricket PNG are gearing th up for an exciting tournament. Seeking to better their best ICC U19 World Cup performance of 12 place, the team has completed a strong training period leading up to the competition; in camp since early January the team played a representative Queensland XI before landing in New Zealand. Here training volume has been tapered, culminating in two warm-up fixtures. Official engagements marked the conclusion of PNG’s first few days in New Zealand as captain Jason Kila, players Timothy Mou and Raymond Haoda, General Manager Bill Leane and Head Coach Andy Bichel, represented PNG at the tournament launch held at the Christchurch Gallery of Modern Art. The PNG Garamuts, led by captain Jason Kila and vice captain Charles Amini comprises Heni Siaka, John Reva, Jonathan Diho, Lega Siaka, Lega Tau, Raymond Haoda, Rogeauka Roge, Sese Bau, Steven Eno, Timothy Mou, Tony Ura, Toua Tom and Vagi Oala. PNG’s opening pool game commences on 16 January against Bangladesh at Fitzherbert Park, with pool matches against Pakistan and the West Indies to follow. The EAP office wish the Garamuts all the best in their group matches. PNG residents can track the progress of the Garamuts in New Zealand via results heard daily on FM100, NBC and EMTV news, and printed in the Post Courier and the National. Internationally, Star Sports will be broadcasting the tournament and the official website of the tournament can be reached via http://iccu19worldcup.yahoo.net/. In addition to watching the performance of the Cricket PNG team, eyes will also be drawn to Shahul Hameed from Cricket Indonesia who has been selected as a member of the 16-man umpiring panel. The EAP Development office would like to congratulate Shahul on his selection; a reward for his outstanding umpiring efforts within the EAP. Steven Eno – Middle order batsman, wicketkeeper. EPL draws to close as players fight for a place in Cricket Fiji national squad The Cricket Fiji Elite Player League (EPL) drew to a close on 19 December 2009 with the Suva Capitals defeating the Sigatoka Dunes, and snatching the EPL title from the Western Bulldogs on run rate. The game commenced with a strong batting display from the Dunes who were eventually tamed by a man-of-the-match performance from Jikoi Kida. Kida cleaned up the Dunes batting line-up, claiming 7/26 off ten overs. Defending 132, the Dunes had Suva on the ropes at 5/79, needing to restrict the team to 105 in order to claim the EPL title on run rate. In their defence, Suva was able to capitalize on two late wicket partnerships, amassing the required 133 in 40 overs with three wickets to spare. With the close of their national league, Cricket Fiji has turned its attention to its fixture in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 competition to be held in Nepal in February. The national squad has just been announced with performances of players in the EPL, as well as the recent Cricket Fiji tours of Vanuatu and Samoa, coming into consideration. Inaugural captain Joe Rika will lead the squad with support from vice captains Joe Dabea and Iniasi Cakacaka, while young stars Viliame Yabaki, Tukana Tavo and Maciu Gauna will make their global international debuts. The decline had perhaps begun as early as the 1999 World Cup final, and peaked during the 2003 World Cup tournament and it became more obvious in the aftermath of the twin series defeats against India at home in early 2004. The services of Bob Woolmer as coach were acquired by the Pakistan Cricket Board in an effort to ensure that the team came up with improved performance and did justice with the loads of talent. The move has paid dividends.

He is a member of the Nottinghamshire General Committee. He was ordained in the clergy on 13 June 1965 and was a minister for 42 years, 26 of which he spent serving the Borough of Rushcliffe. He has always been an enthusiastic cricketer. A left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, he played over 300 games for Club and Clergy. Among his other activities are supporting Notts. County and amateur dramatics, where he has been known to play a vicar! The Rev. Canon Haydock has visited a number of Cricket Societies this winter and the Society extends a warm welcome for his visit to Hampshire tonight. His address will be preceded by the Society’s Annual General Meeting. Wednesday 7 January 2009 – Report The evening in the company of Bob Herman and Richard Lewis was almost worthy of a book. As David Fish mentioned in his vote of thanks, the evening was akin to a warm fireside chat in the company of friends. The two ex- Hampshire cricketers spoke for over an hour and a half and one feels that, if time permitted, they would still be going some twelve hours later as the editor has sat down to draft his report. It was an evening of the very essence of Society meetings as they recalled the on and off field exploits of their former team-mates and their opponents.
