He was sword bearer of Massachusetts grand lodge, a member of Mass. consistory, a past district deputy of the 12th masonic district, a psat master of Thomas Talbot lodge of Billerica and held membership in the chapter council and commandery and in Lowell Scottish Rite bodies. Mr Tivey, a Republican, served two terms as state representative and at the time of his death was supply officer for the county house of correction in East Cambridge. HAMPTON BEACH Barbara R. (Tivey) Kierce, 61, died Monday, March 4, 2002, in Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, Mass.

She was born in Billerica, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Lillian (Hopkinson) Tivey. She was raised in Lowell, Mass., and had resided in Westford, Mass., for many years before moving to Hampton Beach.

She was a graduate of Lowell High School.

Mrs. Kierce was a financial social worker for 12 years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Transitional Assistance in the Salem, Mass., office.

She attended Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton; was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Lowell; and a member of the Association of State, County and Municipal Employees of Massachusetts.

Mrs. Kierce was an avid tennis player, competing in many local and regional tournaments, winning many titles over the years. She was the former coach of the boys tennis team at Westford Academy and the girls tennis team at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sharon M. and Garrett Burke of Tyngsboro, Mass.; one son and his wife, Ronald F. and Katherine Kierce of Seattle, Wash.; six grandsons; two sisters, Betty McKenna of Hudson and Bonnie Garthe of Westford; one brother, William Tivey of Orlando, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judy and James Gove of Methuen, Mass.

She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Tivey.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 276 Pawtucket St., Lowell. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lowell. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
