Cazier of the American Museum of Natural History, I have had the privilege of studying a collection of 439 specimens of Odonata from the Bahama Islands. The number of species represented in this collection is not large, and no species new to science has been recognized, but relatively few records are found in the literature for these islands. Much collecting has been done in the Greater Antilles, and they were included in the range covered by the recent "Manual of the Dragonflies (Anisoptera) of North America" by James G. Needham and myself. Elsie B. Klots (1932) presented an excellent contribution on the Odonata of Puerto Rico, including records from the other Antilles, but no similar work has been done for the Bahamas. Klots had begun a preliminary investi- gation of the Bimini material but was unable to pursue the study, so that the entire lot was sent to me. A large number of specimens reported in the present paper were taken between December 31, 1952, and May 13, 1953, by the following members of the Van Voast-American Museum of Natural History Expedition to the Bahama Islands: G. B. Rabb, Ellis B. Hayden, Jr., and L. Giovannoli. The expedition took them to many of the islands from Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Cays in the north to Great Inagua Island and the Turks Islands in the south. -

The larva of E. media can be distinguished from other species of Erythrodiplax by the presence of lateral spines on S8 and S9, the number of premental setae (n = 22), palpal setae (n = 7) and by the mandibular formula. We also provide a preliminary key to known South American larvae in the genus. Keywords: Brazil; coastal wetlands; dragonfly; exuvia; Anisoptera Introduction Erythrodiplax Brauer, 1868 is an American genus that includes 60 species (Schorr & Paulson, 2017), of which 40 are known to occur in Brazil (Pinto, 2017) and 18 are hitherto reported from the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Consatti, Santos, Renner & Périco, 2014;Costa,1971; Hanauer, Renner & Périco, 2014; Kittel & Engels, 2016; Renner, Périco & Sahlén, 2013, 2016; Renner, Périco, Sahlén, Santos & Consatti, 2015; Teixeira, 1971). The genus consists of many rather similar species, which makes diagnosis difficult. -

A. 7495, Bogotá - Colombia; Correo electrónico: [email protected] RESUMEN Se provee un listado de los géneros y especies de Anisoptera (Insecta: Odonata) depositados en la colección entomológica del Instituto de Ciencias Naturales de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, sede Bogotá. Esta colección posee 2900 especímenes de Odonata recolectados desde 1940 en 27 departamentos del país. El 53% de los especímenes pertenece al suborden Anisoptera, representado por tres familias, Aeshnidae, Gomphidae y Libellulidae, 38 géneros y 91 especies; que constituyen el 80% de géneros y especies reportadas para el sub- orden en Colombia. Los géneros mejor representados en la colección son Erythrodiplax (37%), Uracis (15%) y Erythemis (8%). Se confirma la presencia en Colombia de Uracis siemensi Kirby, 1897, U. infumata (Ram- bur, 1842) y Zenithoptera viola Ris, 1910. Palabras clave: Odonata, libélula, Anisoptera, Neotrópico. SUMMARY A list of genera and species of Anisoptera (Insecta: Odonata) deposited in the entomology collection of the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales, Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá is given. This collection holds 2900 specimens of Odonata which have been collected since 1940 across 27 departments of the country. More than a half of the specimens are Anisoptera (53%) and these are represented by three families Aeshnidae, Gomphidae, and Libellulidae, 38 genera and 91 species. These numbers constitute 80% of the genera and species of the suborder reported from Colombia. -

It is apparently closely related to the widespread species, M. pseudimitans Calvert, 1898, with which it has hitherto been confused. These two species differ in shape of the cerci and epiproct, metafemoral armature, and thoracic and tibial coloration. A key to males of the genus, based largely on literature sources, is also provided. Introduction The genus Macrothemis is almost exclusively Neotropical, although a few species range northward into northern Mexico and the southwestern United States (Needham & Westfall, 1955). It comprises 39 or 40 species (Bridges, 1994, following Garrison, 1991, placed M. valida Navas, 1916, in Brechmorhoga, a plausible but so far unsubstantiated transfer), including the one described here. The latter is typical of the genus in that the inferior tooth of each tarsal claw is enlarged and its tip extends beyond that of the superior tooth. Thus the placement in Macrothemis rather than Brechmorhoga is clearly warranted, although the trigonal interspace of one forewing of the holotype is widened distally more than is usual in Macrothemis (Donnelly, 1984). The last comprehensive treatment of the genus was that of Ris (1913); although still very useful, this work is seriously outdated owing to the subsequent description of 15 species (Belle, 1983, 1987; Costa 1990, 1991; Donnelly, 1984; Gonzalez, 1992; Navas, 1916, 1918; Racenis, 1957; Ris, 1919; Santos, 1967). -

Ware Department of Biological Sciences, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, 195 University Ave., Boyden Hall, Newark, NJ, 07102, USA (Received 18 November 2010; final version received 3 April 2011) Among insects, perhaps the most appreciated are those that are esthetically pleasing: few capture the interest of the public as much as vibrantly colored dragonflies and damselflies (Insecta: Odonata). These remarkable insects are also extensively studied. Here, we review the history of odonate systematics, with an emphasis on discrepancies among studies. Over the past century, relationships among Odonata have been reinterpreted many times, using a variety of data from wing vein morphology to DNA. Despite years of study, there has been little consensus about odonate taxonomy. In this review, we compare odonate molecular phylogenetic studies with respect to gene and model selection, optimality criterion, and dataset completeness. These differences are discussed in relation to the evolution of dragonfly behavior. The order Odonata comprises three suborders: Anisozygoptera, Anisoptera, and Zygoptera. There are approximately 6000 species of Odonata described worldwide (Ardila-Garcia & Gregory, 2009). Of the three suborders Anisoptera and Zygoptera are by far the most commonly observed and collected, because there are only two known species of Anisozygoptera under the genus Epiophlebia. All odonate nymphs are aquatic, with a few rare exceptions such as the semi-aquatic Pseudocordulia (Watson, 1983), and adults are usually found near freshwater ponds, marshes, rivers (von Ellenrieder, 2010), streams, and lakes (although some species occur in areas of mild salinity; Corbet, 1999). -

A list of the Odonata of Honduras Sidney W. Dunkle* SUMMARY. The 147 species of dragonflies and damsel- fliesknownfrom Honduras are usted, along with their distribution by political department. Of these records, 54 are new for Honduras, including 9 which extend known ranges of species northward or southward. RESUMEN. Las 147 especies de libélulas conocidas en Honduras son mencionados junto con su distribución por depar- tamento. De esta cifra, 54 especies son nuevas en Honduras. Nueve especies han ampliado sus límites geográficos llegando a este país por el sur y por el norte. Very little has been written about the Odonata of Hondu- ras. Williamson (1905) gave some notes on collecting in Cortes De- partment, mostly near San Pedro Sula, but did not ñame the species taken. Williamson (1923b) briefly discussed the habitat of 4 species of Hetaerina collected near San Pedro Sula. Paulson (1982) in his table of Odonata occurrences in Central American countrieslisted 94 species íromHondur as. ArgiadifficilisSe\y$ has been deleted from the Honduran list because it is thought not to occur in Central America, and was confused with A. oculata Hagen (R. W. Garrison, pers. comm.). The list below includes 54 more species for a total of 147. Of the new records, 5 extend the known ranges of species southward and 4 extend ranges northward. Paulson (1982) listed 54 other species which occur both north and south of Honuras, and therefore can be expected in that country. Diversidade De Odonata (Insecta) Em Igarapés Na Reserva Extrativista Tapajós-Arapiuns (PA)

Identificar as populações de determinada localidade nos possibilita propor estratégias direcionadas de conservação dos ecossistemas naturais que estão sendo modificados pelas ações humanas. Nesse contexto, foi realizado um levantamento da diversidade de espécies de Odonata adultos (Insecta) em corpos hídricos localizados na Reserva Extrativista Tapajós-Arapiuns (RESEX), Santarém/Aveiro (PA). Com uso de rede entomológica, foram amostrados adultos de Odonata em oito igarapés da RESEX. Os igarapés foram amostrados no mês de outubro de 2017. Cada igarapé foi amostrado uma vez em diferentes dias, totalizando oito coletas. Foram avaliados através de índices ecológicos a riqueza (Jackknife de primeira), diversidade (Shannon (H’) e Simpson (D)), dominância (Berger-Parker) e constância (Dajoz). Foram coletados 230 indivíduos de Odonata, distribuídos em oito famílias, 17 gêneros e 19 espécies. A riqueza estimada de espécies foi de 25,96 ± 2,40 (média ± desvio padrão), e a eficiência de coleta foi de 95%. Encontramos uma considerável diversidade de espécies (H’=2,14; D=0,83). A espécie com maior dominância foi Chalcopteryx radians, com 62 indivíduos (26%). Das 19 espécies coletadas, sete foram classificadas como constantes (36%), seis como acessórias (32%), e seis acidentais (32%). A existência de uma grande diversidade de flora local possibilita para maioria dos indivíduos, um maior número de microhabitats, como no caso de Odonata.
