Now, we could be Rally Bastards in the truest sense of the words and make you read them all to find some obscure factoid. But we’re not like that. Locate the green info board with a drawing of the river. According to this informational board, what was the First Capitol of Wisconsin (in 1836)?

In honor of this, St. Urho’s Day is celebrated on March 16 here in Finland, MN. At the intersection of Hwy. 1 and Cty. Rd. 7 stands an 18 ft. tall statue of St. Urho carved from a tree. To the right of the SPAM Museum sign, just inside the entrance, is a request (which can be seen from outside the entrance doors). What does it ask the visitors?

There is a large mock up of Buddy Holly’s iconic eyeglasses marking the entrance to the trail that leads to the crash site, in the middle of a farm field. {RED} N44 53.189 W097 03.663 Watertown, SD 24 Hours Points: 45 Watertown’s local boy, Terry Redlin was my favorite artist. I’m not very complicated so I can identify very few artists by their work. But I really like Terry Redlin’s paintings. Unfortunately, Mr. Redlin passed away in April from the effects of Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Several years ago, your Rallymasters hopped on a Goldwing and rode out to Watertown to visit the Redlin Art Center. Admission was free. We watched a short video telling us what to look for in his paintings. It was fascinating. The Redlin Art Center is located at 1200 33rd St. S.E. Find the bronze statue of the otters playing outside on the lawn. Take a picture of the statue and include your flag.

19 {ZZZ} Anywhere in Minnesota 24 Hours 1500 Points for 3 hours 2000 Points for 4 hours + 1 Point for each mile REST BONUS: Stop for 3 hours or longer. At the start of the rest bonus period obtain a dated, timed receipt from a location — a gas station, motel, store, ATM, etc. At the end of the rest period get a dated, timed receipt (preferably from the same location) but at least in the same immediate vicinity as the start receipt. This bonus does not mean get a receipt and go collect bonuses. It means STOP and REST. Rest for at least 3 hours to earn 1500 Points. Rest for 4 hours (or longer) to earn 2000 Points. Note that this year’s rest bonus is similar to other years with one BIG exception: In addition to the rest bonus points, you will earn 1 additional point for each mile from rally headquarters that you take your rest bonus. If you live in Lakeville and like to sleep in your own bed, you’ll earn an extra 4 points. If you rest in Warroad, you’ll earn an extra 365 points. For the ease of scoring, start and end receipts would be from the same business, with their address stamped along with date and time. Mileage will be determined using a common mapping program. If addresses are not the same, the lower mileage location will be used. When you return to rally headquarters on Sunday morning, you will get into one of two lines and have your Rest Bonus mileage scored FIRST and approved by one of our two IBR winners/volunteers, Peter Behm and Derek Dickson. You will not receive the mileage points for the rest bonus if this step is skipped prior to scoring.

4 CORNERS AND THE CAPITOL COMBO BONUS Points: 591

***************************************************************************************************

To pay tribute to Peter Behm’s monster 2011 Iron Butt Rally winning ride, we offer this combo. Peter rode to 48 states, completed the Four Corners Tour and visited 32 state capitols while riding 13,544 miles in 11 days.

Follow in a small way by successfully completing our “modified” 4 Corners of Minnesota: {SEC}, {SWC}, {NWC} and {NEC} and complete the {PBM} bonus below to earn the additional points for this combo bonus.

{PBM} N44 57.339 W093 06.225 St. Paul, MN 24 Hours Points: 0 There is a statue of Leif Erikson just west of the Capitol in a park near the intersection of Park St. and University Ave. W. Take a picture of the statue and include the Capitol Building in the background. There is a small parking lot reserved for the senate just west of the statue. I believe you can park in the entryway of that lot, off to the east side without too much trouble on a weekend, long enough to get a picture and then get out. Use your best judgment. The State Capitol bonus is available as part of this combo only.
