If you are planning any type of remodeling project this Spring or Summer, more than likely, a building permit will be required. There have been some changes as to what type of projects requires permits. Homeowners are allowed to do most projects around the house. Visit the Village website or check with the Building Dept. to see if your project will require a permit. OLQNKWWSYLOVKRUHZRRGLOXVGHSDUWPHQWV%XLOGLQJ6HUYLFHVEXLOGLQJGHSDUWPHQWDVS[

If you are using a contractor, make sure they apply for a building permit. Contractors need to be licensed, bonded, and insured with the Village in order to perform work in town. They will have to provide the Village with a proposal or contract, signed by the homeowner before a permit can be issued. Beware of contractors that ask the homeowner to pull the permit. By doing so, the homeowner assumes all liability if someone gets hurt, or if the job is done improperly.

Looking for contractors? Check with neighbors and friends. A MESSAGE FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Spring and Summer months are rapidly approaching and with this comes time for people to emerge from their winter activities and spend time outdoors. This includes children who will be more likely to enjoy outdoor activities. Motorists need to be aware of this even while school is still in session. Also, the likelihood of children playing or riding bicycles outside when the weather improves is higher and so is the risk of tragedy. Drivers are asked to be more aware of their surroundings and obey all speed limits DQG WUDɝF ODZV SDUWLFXODUO\ ZKHQ WUDYHOLQJ WKURXJK QHLJKERUKRRGV RU QHDU VFKRROV

This season is also a good time to remind drivers not be distracted or use their cell phones while driving. The State of and the Illinois Department of Transportation have designated April as Distracted Driving Month. This is a time of year where these groups partner with local law enforcement to make the public aware of the dangers of distracted driving.

The Shorewood Police implemented a program referred to as ‘Just Wave’ which was meant to encourage motorists to engage the police or their neighbors in a friendly wave. This was also designed to remind drivers to keep a hand free and not use their cell phones while driving. 6KRUHZRRG3ROLFH6TXDGFDUVKDYHWKHȆ-XVW:DYHȇUHPLQGHUVLQWKHLUEDFNZLQGRZV7KHRɝFHUV serving the community enjoy interacting with the citizens and are happy to engage with them.
