We ask for your patience and consideration in the pre identified ‘hotspot’ areas. This is where high volumes of traffic are anticipated which is likely to result in congestion and delays: • All Saints/St. Helens Street • The Lorton Street /Station Road junction • Gallowbarrow/Station Road junction Buses – initially there will be a temporary bus stop provided on the central island on Main Street. This will be used by all public buses (may move to different locations on Main Street as work progresses). X4 and X5 will run into and out of Cockermouth in both east & westbound direction via Lamplugh Road. Taxis – there will be a designated taxi area on the south side of Main Street between The Fletcher Christian and The Paper Shop. Loading – there will be designated provision on the south side of Main Street outside Lesley Cleeland’s. Emergency Vehicles – plans have been put in place with the emergency services which will allow emergency access if required. Serving the people of Cumbria cumbria.gov.uk Cockermouth Main Street Newsletter Additional traffic management arrangements required within Cockermouth Additional arrangements required 1) Kirkgate - following feedback from the public drop-in adjustments have been made to the initial proposed arrangements for Kirkgate resulting in: • Two way traffic will continue on Kirkgate. This will be managed by the introduction of two way traffic lights at the Market place end of Kirkgate (St. Helens Street and at the bottom of Kirkgate) . • Market Place will become one way East to West. 2) In the Challoner Street Area – Challoner Street will be closed for a small section at the Main Street end. Therefore two way traffic movement will be introduced on Challoner Street and a small section of South Street to provide access only for residents and businesses in the area. Cumbria Classified (A,B & C) Roads - Published January 2021 • The list has been prepared using the available information from records compiled by the County Council and is correct to the best of our knowledge. It does not, however, constitute a definitive statement as to the status of any particular highway. • This is not a comprehensive list of the entire highway network in Cumbria although the majority of streets are included for information purposes. • The extent of the highway maintainable at public expense is not available on the list and can only be determined through the search process. • The List of Streets is a live record and is constantly being amended and updated. We update and republish it every 3 months. • Like many rural authorities, where some highways have no name at all, we usually record our information using a road numbering reference system. Street descriptors will be added to the list during the updating process along with any other missing information. • The list does not contain Recorded Public Rights of Way as shown on Cumbria County Council’s 1976 Definitive Map, nor does it contain streets that are privately maintained. • The list is property of Cumbria County Council and is only available to the public for viewing purposes and must not be copied or distributed.
