The location where Sommers' Bakery and Restaurant are situated were originally granted to William Winnspear, a service veteran, in 1852 by the US. Government. The original brick building which houses the bakery was designed to be built by C. S. Lauderbach in Sept., 1899. All particulars, from foundation to eaves troughs, were hand written in beautiful script. Lauderbach had an ice cream parlor which was purchased by Earl A. Hiller in 1919 for use as a bakery, to be continued as such by J. D. and Lucille Sommers in 1937. A bakery has been in this spot continuously for 78 years.
