Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and of course, his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.

In the Curb household, it was her parents’ compassion that left the biggest impression on their youngest daughter, Courtney. “My sister and I were not sure about the move to Nashville, but Dad finally convinced us by promising to bring our two dogs and two horses with the promise of more animal additions in the future,” Courtney says. “We even snuck a frog in an aquarium onto the plane, as well as a cockatiel that chirped through the whole flight from LA.” But it was the horses – feeding them in the cold at 6:30 in the morning – that began to drive home some life Ylessons for the girls. “We had grown up in LA, where we didn’t have 20-degree mornings, so that was a bit of a shock to the system,” says Courtney. “But it was important to our parents that we learned about responsibility, and that we shared their love for caring for animals.” The Curb ranch in Thousand Oaks, California, had been a weekend getaway, and the girls were able to ride horses, feed the sheep and goats, raise baby ducklings and play with the rescue dogs. Shortly after the move to Nashville, the Curbs’ two dogs turned into six, and the family home has continued to serve as a shelter for rescue dogs and fosters for which Courtney finds new homes.

Known as the "Sweetheart of the Steel," Mandrell was a multi- instrumentalist by the time she was 10. She was on tour with The Johnny Cash Show by age 13 and had her first Billboard chart record at age 21. Her NBC variety show, "Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters" drew nearly 40 million viewers weekly and introduced a nation to country music. Now, Barbara joins fellow inductees, Roy Clark and Charlie McCoy, as one of the newest members of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of rock and country music legend Charlie Daniels; and WHEREAS, a versatile singer, songwriter, guitarist, and blazing-fast fiddle player, Charlie Daniels was also a renowned philanthropist and patriot who entertained music fans for more than a half century and made his home in Tennessee; and WHEREAS, born on October 28, 1936, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Charles Edward Daniels grew up inspired by church music and local bluegrass bands and was an avid listener of Nashville's WSM and WLAC radio stations, which streamed country and R&B music into his childhood home; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels merged those sounds in the mid-1950s to create the rock band The Jaguars, which most notably recorded the instrumental single "Jaguar" for national distribution via Epic Records; and WHEREAS, in 1964, Charlie Daniels and record producer Bob Johnston co-wrote the song "It Hurts Me," which was recorded by Elvis Presley and released as a single in 1964; and WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels moved to Nashville in 1967 and soon became a marquee session player, recording with such luminaries as Ringo Starr, Marty Robbins, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan; and WHEREAS, 1970 marked a pivotal time in Charlie Daniels's career, as he released his first solo album, Charlie Daniels, with Capitol Records and formed the Charlie Daniels Band (CDB),
