5 DYNAMITE WALK (Upton Towans) 20 June 6 PM

Peter Channon invites interested parties for a gentle stroll around the Towans to marvel at the history of this amazing area that was a hive of explosive production up to 1919. Relive the way that this location produced a variety of commercial explosives, before becoming a major supplier of Cordite for the Government. Views from the ‘Hills’ give a spectacular vista over St Ives Bay and the interior of Cornwall. We meet at the entrance off Upton Towans Road (near the chimney) and should be finished by 8 pm. ‘Dynamite Strollers’ are welcome to e-mail me at : [email protected] (ref Dynamite) for brief introductory notes and an image of the location that will assist in understanding the tour.

9 Last Execution Follow up! Dear Editor, I have just read the above article in the April/May edition of Hayle Pump with great interest as I am the great nephew of Emily Tredrea about whom the article was written. I am very pleased that this historic event is to be remembered in such a way and am very interested in the detail of what precisely is planned. I would however make one point of correction which may just be a type error or a factual inaccuracy in how the name Tredrea has been spelt, in the article it is spelt incorrectly and I would hate to see all the efforts of marking the memory with the wrong spelling! There are two direct descendants of Emily, myself Michael and my sister Ann and both of us live locally. However I also have two sons and a daughter so the family name will continue. As a family we have always been very aware of the history and how Emily was murdered. A good account of the details is recorded in Bodmin courthouse. If anyone is interested in talking to us we would me more than happy to become involved and I can be contacted on this email address: [email protected] or by telephone on 07789 032979 or evenings on 01209 710000. Thank you for reading this and maybe a follow up will transpire as a result.

Best Regards Mike Tredrea
