PETER NOVELLI NEW ORLEANS‐BASED GUITARIST / SINGER / SONGWRITER Peter Novelli discovered love of music as a child. By all accounts, he was happily learning violin at age six, but at fourteen, when a young musician's fancy turns to all manner of styles and genres, Novelli's young musical life would be turned on its head by master B.B.King. “I heard him and all these years later, I still have B.B.'s sounds stuck in my ear,” marvels Novelli, who is fresh off a US cross country tour (his fifth), shows in Dominican Republic, and Norway (his first). “The sound was so raw and emotional. I started listening to great blues masters like Freddie King, Albert Collins, Slim Harpo and the Baton Rouge cats, New Orleans’ Slim…also country‐rock guys like James Burton, Clarence White… and George Barnes and Johnny Smith, who were phenomenal jazz guitarists.” And it wasn't just the pedigreed blues masters that intrigued Novelli. “I was also listening to newer guitarists who were deeply influenced by the blues. Players like Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield, Jeff Beck and Keith Richards were developing rock music based in blues. It was fascinating.” Novelli put down his violin, picked up a guitar and immersed himself in blues studies. He listened to New Orleans, Chicago and and also found himself influenced by iconic jazz horn players. Soon Novelli found himself playing in rock, blues and country bands around his home in upstate New York. Years later, after opening for Buckwheat Zydeco and touring with Cajun and zydeco artists, Novelli made the move to New Orleans. Novelli has released two CDs and will released his third, St. Amant Sessions in April 2015. His first, Peter Novelli, hit the blues/roots charts and was met with critical acclaim. His second effort, Louisiana Roots and Blues (2012), garnered even more praise and Novelli continued touring nonstop. St. Amant Sessions was recorded between tours at Brignac's Sound Shack in the small town of St. Amant, Louisiana. It was mixed/mastered by multi Grammy‐winning Tony Daigle at Electric Comoland studio in LaFayette Louisiana. St. Amant Sessions’ core band includes keyboardist Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton), New Orleans bassist Chris Senac and Louisiana drummer Brian Brignac (Sonny Landreth, Wayne Toups, etc). Guests include Grammy winning zydeco accordionist Chubby Carrier, slide guitarist Sonny Landreth, Cajun accordionist Sammy Naquin and vocalist Lisa Foster (Dr John, Alan Toussaint, many more). Peter says: “the other day I realized that my journey that started with B.B. King at age 14 has come full circle – my composition “Since The Hurricane” is still spinning after 4 years on B.B. King’s Bluesville (the biggest blues radio show in the world) along with two more of my songs from the 2nd CD…that feels like some kind of acceptance, maybe a little nod from the King. But I have these ideas and sounds in my head and I continually get to make music with some incredible people, so the journey continues…” ‐ Tammy Brackett Moonstruck Promotions
